Wow 10 thousand! I didn't even realise. Congratulations. Is it scary having that many people watch you? I would be insanity happy but oh my goodness that's a lot.
Maybe you could make a pair of coordinating knit/lounge pants from light ecru sweatshirt fabric to match the top? For the animal print, perhaps something like an Atelier Jupe blouse. Happy sewing 😊
Ooh yes I hadn't thought about trousers that's a possibility thank you for suggesting it :) The Atelier Jupe patterns are lovely I've only just really come to notice them. Thanks for watching x
We used to go to the Knitting and Stitching show every year back in the 90s (London and Harrogate as we are kind of equidistant). Although I was a dressmaker as well as an embroiderer, there used to be very little in the way of dressmaking stalls. The 'stitching' element was very much focused on crafting and embroidery. I think the interest in dressmaking from the GBSB has changed the emphasis a lot in recent years. It would be interesting to go back and see how different it is.
That’s interesting, yes I do think you’d find it different now, there are a lot of indie sewing pattern designers but still a few great embroidery and patchwork stalls too. There are also some exhibitions showing patchwork and they are amazing! Thanks so much for watching x
In one of your videos you said you use only a few colors of thread. A few years ago I bought this thread cone holder that sits next to my sewing machine and threads through my machine like normal - it’s just off to the side. Now I sew mostly with a few basic colors of large cones of thread that are a lot cheaper in the long run (especially for filling bobbins). I bought it from Superior Threads.
Thought there were less stalls this year, I didn’t buy much. That leopard print viscose is lovely! Defo more wool etc this year and far less stall holders I thought.
Yes I didn’t think it was as good as pre-covid I think everything has moved online more now hasn’t it and it’s such a shame. Still it was a nice day out I hope you still enjoyed it xx
I’m looking forward to going to the Harrogate show next month. Seeing your gorgeous buys has really whetted my appetite now. I think you’ve got lovely taste when it comes to choosing your fabrics. I also liked the look of the pattern where you will be making the smock dress for your Mum. I hope we get to see the results of that
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you like my haul! I'll be sure to share mum's dress when it's finished. Enjoy the Harrogate show I hope you get some lovely things :) x
Beautiful selection of fabrics Sally. You always choose such a lovely colour palette with your fabrics. A Sagebrush top would look very nice in the viscose twill fabric. Thank you for your video.
Hi Sally, thanks for your lovely vlog. I really look forward to watching on Sunday mornings with my coffee & a bit more time than weekdays allow. Your fabrics are gorgeous & I thought of the Gladys top by fibre mood for your black & white viscose. It has a pretty, ruffle trimmed yolk, front & back. Also an alternative wrap cardi is the Papercut Coppélia, which is a closer fit than Pearl, raglan sleeved & comes in 2 length options. Very quick make. Happy sewing & looking forward to all your cool season creations.
Thank you so much for watching I’m glad you enjoy the videos 😊 thank you for that recommendation too I’ve not seen that pattern so I’ll have a look. I’m always amazed there are so many patterns I’ve not heard of haha x
I always love your choice of fabrics Sally. I would love a Norma blouse in the viscose. It is a quite cropped pattern and I found the v neck came out much lower than in the illustration you showed. I raised mine by 2 inches
Love everything you bought. And what a lovely thing so sew a dress up for your mother :-) About the grey/ecru, I think you made the right choice. The ecru goes great with your colouring. I wish I was just as good at the whole colour-choosing. I find it really hard.
Thank you I’m looking forward to sewing up the dress for her. I’m glad you think so maybe I was subconsciously drawn to it haha. I’m not sure I’m good at it either I think I’m just drawn to certain colours I love xx
Great video Sally. I have watched a few vlogs by people who went to this show. Not sure if we have anything like that down here in Australia, I will have to investigate. I love all of your purchases. Look forward to seeing the one for your mum made up, I really like that pattern. We are coming into our summer now so I am looking at summer styles.
It's strange to think that you're coming into summer when we're just going into the colder months! I'm glad you like my little haul, I'll be sure to share mum's dress whenever it gets made it does look a lovely pattern. Thank you for watching! x
I would love to go to a sewing show. You are sooo lucky. I have heard of Sewgirl. I think, if they are the same business, they make a lot of patterns for the Love Sewing or Simply Sewing magazines. I didn't know they sold fabric though. I so wish I could come with you. There isn't any Sewing show that I know of in my area any more. I'm going to have to live vicariously through you😊.
Oh that's interesting I didn't realise that. I'm not sure if they sell fabrics regularly or just had a few remnants. I'm sorry you don't have anything similar near you we are lucky. Thank you for watching x
No I agree pre-covid was better maybe because everything is more online these days. Was it you I met on one of the stalls?? I’m not too familiar with Juki that’s such an exciting purchase x
Great video as always Sally. I’ve got that hat book too and I’ve tried a couple out, so quick and easy! Mine cost £2 from my local wool shop and I was surprised, but I agree about John Lewis, I always look for reduced books there 😂
Hi Sally what a gorgeous selection of fabrics and you have great eye for colour. One day I might be lucky enough to to go to one of these stitching shows it would be such a treat.I love the Norma blouse it’s such a flattering style, can’t wait to see what you make with all the beautiful fabrics.x
Thank you! I’m glad you like the fabrics I keep admiring them as I walk by the pile in my bedroom haha! Yes I’d like to make the Norma as it is so far I’ve just stolen the sleeves for my sagebrush hack. Thank you for watching zz
You found some lovely fabrics. The Norma blouse would be very pretty in that one fabric. Also, I just finished my first Tilde Shirt Dress and I love it. The animal print fabric may be too much for it. I believe it will be nice in the sample fabric you purchased. Anyway, it's a great pattern. I can't wait to see your makes. Happy Sewing 🧵
You should be fine since you have been sewing longer than me. There's some steps that could have clearer instructions. One is the way the hem of the button placket is finished. Next time, I will do the neater finish on that. Also, the instructions do not tell you to gather the sleeve head. I did and it helped. They do have you gather the sleeve near the wrist before adding the cuff though. Next time, I will add a few extra steps to make a better finish. However, I found the fit to be perfect.
I think a short Lyra dress for your animal print fabric sounds like a good idea. Perhaps a Lyndon sweatshirt with the two fabrics combined would look good and a way of using the ecru ? The Black Sheep wool barn is five minutes up the road from me, called yesterday to get a top pattern to knit, to layer over blouses. Look forward to your next vlog x
I agree about the Lyra I think a maxi would be too much! How lucky you are to live so close I’d love to visit the shop some day they had some lovely yarns. Enjoy knitting your top, thank you for watching xx
Lovely to see your purchases Sally. Maybe the pussy bow blouse for the tiny animal print. Your mums fabric could be called Cornflower blue, a very pretty colour. You made me laugh at your procrastinating as it’s exactly what I do with fabric. Often I make the wrong decision by not buying enough of the expensive fabric. I got some fabulous remnants from Higgs and Higgs last time I went( March) to make baby clothes for our new granddaughter but it’s all still sitting there🤔😆She grew out of everything I’d made before so quickly and has had an extensive wardrobe up to now! Thank you for sharing your trip. ☺️
I do the same with not buying enough I try to save money but probably end up spending more in the long run 🙈 Higgs and Higgs is so lovely for baby and children’s clothing isn’t it they have such lovely prints. I loved shopping there when my children were smaller. Thank you for watching x
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress Yes it’s false economy. Once I bought a metre of the lovely Atelier sweatshirt ig that you made a sweatshirt with. I then had to order half a metre for the sleeves but they had to be cut across ways. Silly but I was feeling too extravagant to order the correct amount 😆
Maybe you could change your nice wrap cardigan that is too short into a tunic top by replacing the tie band with a gathered or box pleat rectangle as the waist band ie peplum or skirt attachment? You wouldnt need to match colours but solves the ride up, tugging down challenge. 🧐
I love how you buy quality designer fabrics. I have been sewing with cheaper fabrics and you do get what you pay for. My sewing is more enjoyable also with better fabrics, they sew nicer and wear nicer, less repairs.
Yes I think I've learned from past experiences with fabrics too, I definitely have a higher turnover of clothing with cheaper fabrics but they aren't always affordable are they. It's a balance ;) x
Beautiful fabrics. All your garments seem to fit you so well.
Thank you so much I'm glad you think so x
Such a fun show to watch😊
Thanks so much for watching xx
Wow 10 thousand! I didn't even realise. Congratulations. Is it scary having that many people watch you? I would be insanity happy but oh my goodness that's a lot.
Still a little way to go yet but thank you :) Yes it is scary I can't think about it too much haha. Thank you so much for watching xx

I was just thinking the same Hide & Silk. I used to go every year to Alexandra Palace?

Oh that’s good to know thank you and I may lengthen because I like to tuck things in. Thanks so much for watching x
Definitely a short Lyra out of the animal print. You have great taste in quality things. I really enjoyed your vlog.
Thank you so much 😊 Yes I think a short Lyra is the way forward xx

Lovely video as always Sally. Love all your fabric choices and those patterns for the hats are fab 😍
Thank you so much for watching. I think that book was a real bargain I can’t wait to knit the hats x

We went last Friday, I agree, more knitting this year, it was great but not quite the same as pre covid. I ended up buying a new Juki machine 😬🫣

Hi Sally-great fabrics choices! What about a long skirt in the animal fabric? ❤
Thank you - ooh that's an interesting thought I think it would look nice as a skirt with a black jumper x

How about an Atelier Jupe Frida blouse for the viscose twill?
That’s a great option thank you! X
Do you wash your denim before making?
Yes I will do x
I have to ask as I wonder every time you say it - are you calling a toile, ‘a twirl’💃?
Is that not how you pronounce it 😂 Maybe I’ll start saying muslin lol x
Makes me smile every time! I reckon that even if it’s not how you’re supposed to pronounce it, you should always call it a twirl anyway!☺️
@@clairejsmith I just had to look it up and I am pronouncing it right I thought it was but yes it is weird. I’ll have to do a twirl in my toile lol x
