  • View Part I: • The Brachial Plexus- A...
In this animation, Dr. Eric Laywell, Associate Professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine, continues our discussion about the brachial plexus by investigating the anatomy and clinical significance of specific terminal branches. Dr. Laywell focuses on six branches: the Long Thoracic Nerve, Axillary Nerve, Radial Nerve, Musculocutaneous Nerve, Ulnar Nerve, and Median nerve, giving information on both their motor and sensory functions and paying particular attention to nerve injury.
This animation was directed and produced by Jodi Slade, senior medical illustrator at the FSU College of Medicine.

Wow, these two videos condensed the brachial plexus into organized, pertinent, and comprehensible material that is clinically relevant. Well done, I applaud you! - Another med student :)

These videos are very informative, it's good to have knowledge of these types of injuries....when I was in my 20's I suffered radial nerve palsey ( wrist drop ) this was before I had any knowledge of this type of things cam even occur...I went to the hospital and immediately they diagnosed me, I was scared. I thought they were gonna cut my wrist off. It's a very odd feeling not being able to move a limb, scary too. You mind plays tricks on you.. but they made me a special glove to basically extend each finger and squeeze them to work out each tendon. And in about 6 months, I started to get movement in my wrist and I felt relief seeing and being able to move and perform more. I thank God that he has help me on my times of injuries.
May he protect us all and guide us.

This is the best video I have found talking about the clinical significance and common pathologies found with the terminal branches of the brachial plexus. Great drawings as well. Honestly, if i had found this in high school when I took anatomy, I would have applied for this school for College 100%. Thanks for the upload and keep up the good work.

Very good video. There was just one oversight when talking about what muscles of the hand are innervated by ulner nerve. The deep branch of the ulner nerve also innervates adductor policus.

Im 23 years old and i think i have this same injury in my right arm (i feel like it's a disability even though i can do almost everything normally), it was a birth trauma. I was unsure if it was the same until the part at 1:21 about the Long Thoracic Nerve even though i don't have any complications in my hand and finger control... only angular outside elbow movements and such. Thank you so much for the really polished video!

Just a correction, wrist drop occurs if the injury is before the bifurcation of radial nerve into superficial and deep branches at the forearm.
