Portal Hypertension: Animated Review

- Dr. Eric Laywell, Associate Professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine, discusses portal venous circulation and how pressure changes in portal veins caused by liver disease can have serious health consequences. Dr. Laywell explores the changes that happen during portacaval anastamosis, highlighting the three dangerous types of swollen portal veins: Esophageal varices, caput mesusae, and anorectal varices. He concludes by discussing the various surgical techniques to ease elevated portal pressure.

This was an amazing class!!! I just saw a patient today that had esophageal varices and my friend told me that was from her problem in the liver that caused portal hypertension!! And with this video my mind could see how it happened!! So thank you!!

easily the best video i have seen on the effects of portal HTN and varicosity formation across the distal esophagus, umbilical, and anal region. Please, make more of these videos. This was simple and easy to understand. One pass was enough.

hello Sir my friend have extra hepatic portal vine obstruction, post splenectomy status. Chronic thrombosis of extra hepatic portal vein, superior mesenteric vein and splenic vein as described above. cavernoma transformation of portal vein as described above. multiple portosystemic collaterals as described above. shrunken liver with volume distribution as described. Bulky head of the pancreas with peri - pancreatic fat stranding as described above --------Correlate with lipase. ct scan ripot plz give salution sir
