Creativity, Raw Talent, Technique and Taste my friend. With out you... there would be nothing. We are Lucky to have you. Saw you with UK more than once in NYC! Be well.
Nuff said, he's just a freak of nature in the same way Buddy Rich was; there's just so many things you can train in, but if you're not gifted enough you're not gonna reach the top level - much like Marco does. And the thing is, a "real" musician, drummer (don't get me wrong here, I'm just a regular sad John Doe drummer with an ear for music that sadly never got the opportunity to work as a pro) , can tell if someone is improvising a lot or not - and he does it over and over again...and I like him for it. It's guys like him that inspires us mere mortals lol...
I'm going to blame micing / mixing for that. I have played and heard the DW kicks with Subs they are very loud. But also very low, and when mixing that in with the fast playing you just get some rumble =|
ThaTyger Yeah, that is true. Faster playing usually requires a quicker attack and less "rumble". Mostly what I meant by "weak", though, is that it's more "mid-y" sounding than I'd like. There's not really a lot of "click" or bottom end to it. It just doesn't HIT like I wish it would. It has the beater punch, and that's good, but just on its own, especially when it's as pronounced as it is here, sounds too hollow, IMO. Obviously every style of music requires a different drum sound, and everyone has their preferences, but my favorite kick sound is a very tight but bottom heavy sound. Listen to the kick here for my idea of what's close to the perfect kick sound: watch?v=_X_Hz9zR2eA You can still get a good amount of low end and keep it precise sounding. Just takes some extra work. Well worth it IMO, though. lol :)
Godlike Marco, you deserve a seat right next to Neil ! So much creativity and sensitivity in a single body terrifies me... for real, how many people are inside this tall german dude ? :D
These cherry shells really sound phenomenal ! I was a bit skeptical when I heard of the release of cherry shells, but my skepticism was gone shortly after hearing these drums. My dream kit would be cherry shells BD 24x18, RT 12x9, RT 13x10, FT 16x14, FT 18x16, S 14x7 in white glass with Gold hardware. Man, that is a dream I'm determined to make happen. DW, I thank you for making the most bitchin' drums on the planet!
I fucking love his style! He is one of my favorite drummers. Dave Lombardo, Marco Minneman, Ray Luzier, Mike Portnoy, David Silveria, and Ingo Schwichtenberg (from Helloween because of his influences on Helloween, and his style) they're my favorite drummers. I've never seen a drum solo with a first person drum cam, i really enjoyed this drum solo! OMG SO GOOD!
I have been blessed to attend many clinics with many masterful drummers. That list includes the likes of Hard,Smith,Weckyl etc. I can safely say that none of them have the level of interdependence that Marco has. Not even close. Feel and groove is another thing, but Marco is on another planet. He personally told me his story about how he started developing his voice and style. He was actually in a studio and stumbled upon the idea while warming up decades ago and the engineer told him to shut the hell up. He already had realized he was on to something, and he ran with it. The rest is history. He is top 3 in my book next to Buddy and Steve Gadd.
Ok GoPro, but can someone please tell me which model are they? and is all the sound recorded with GoPro too? If it is, is each camera angle sounding with its respective sound recorded? Thanks!
Does anyone at DW know what Finishply is on Stephen Perkins newest kit? It has Black Nickel hardware, possibly one of the new Galaxy colors? Also I'd like to know what size kicks he's using now? They look like 20's but uber-deep! Way deeper than usual, thanks...
that same enthusiasm after a decade of doing scarified with paul gilbert never changed. you are such a fun drummer to watch! keep it rainin' dude!
Funny how his playing always puts a smile on my face... Just love it!
😄

D W per tutta la vita ...grande Marco
Gotta LOVE some Marco, homie's in his own category...
My hero! He masters everything!
Nuff said, he's just a freak of nature in the same way Buddy Rich was; there's just so many things you can train in, but if you're not gifted enough you're not gonna reach the top level - much like Marco does. Sneaking in some desert tornado @4:00
Gotta love Marco Minnemann!!!

That side snare IS A BEAST... IT SOUNDS SO FAT
I like the paradiddles when they slow it down at 5 minutes in!
Amazing, and what a cool dude!
Tuned to perfection.
Is that an Afro/Cuban ride pattern played on the kick as an ostando with the hi-hat under the hands solo?
No
ShartimusPrime it’s an afro/ride cuban pattern played on the ostando as a kick under the right hat hi my name is solo?
CHERRYYYYYYYYY...OHHHH MY GODDD, THAT LOW IS INSANE!!!
4:00 he starts doing the same drum section from an Aristocrats album, noticed straight away! :D
Bass drum sounds a little weak but that main snare....WOW! Sounds incredible!
I'm going to blame micing / mixing for that. I have played and heard the DW kicks with Subs they are very loud. But also very low, and when mixing that in with the fast playing you just get some rumble =|
By the look of it they made it a bit quieter
ThaTyger

Ist ja schon ein klasse Sound. Und natürlich wie immer super gespielt. 🤘🖕🤘
Man that snare sounds killer....what attack
Godlike Marco, you deserve a seat right next to Neil !
So much creativity and sensitivity in a single body terrifies me... for real, how many people are inside this tall german dude ? :D
That groove at 1:35 is sick as hell.
These cherry shells really sound phenomenal ! I was a bit skeptical when I heard of the release of cherry shells, but my skepticism was gone shortly after hearing these drums. Aristocrats - Desert Tornado groove @4:00
Those drums sound so sexy! Doesn't hurt that they have a god playing them though ;)
Bravissimo cazzo! Nella mia Top 5.
AWESOME!
Esse cara é louco e toca muito.
Anyone knows what is the mini bass drum he has behind his main bass drum? I se that he is micing between these two, but I dont know why.
There is a Woofer attached to the kick drum. here is some information. www.dwdrums.com/drums/collectors/specialty.asp
5:19 Paradiddle!

1:30 great
You guys need to make a "Luke Holland plays DW Drums"!!!
Awesome vid..Nice audio how did you achieve the great audio mix did u mix it post production or just straight up..what kind of mics..etc...?
Hi mgsmiley, Audix D6 for the kick, Audix i5 for snare and a Rode NT4 overheads, and a little bit of the zoom XY for the Room.
4:00 isn't that the drum beat from one of The Aristocrats' songs?
I think Desert Tornado
Agreed!
Apart from being a great drummer he is very nice and humble person too.
Boy would I love to know the bass line playing in his head
I heard a little "Ignorant Elephant" at about 4:00 -- or maybe that was something from The Aristocrats.....
Ok GoPro, but can someone please tell me which model are they? and is all the sound recorded with GoPro too? If it is, is each camera angle sounding with its respective sound recorded? Thanks!
Dario, this was shot with Gopro Hero3+ cameras. Please read the description above for all of the audio/video information. Hope this helps :-)

Not sure which kit you mean. His newest is a Cherry Kit. The kick is 16x22. Hope this helps

Fera....muito bom!
Groove at 1:30 is nice
love it
That ride is awesome! it's a K Custom Ride?
Man, Shaggy can play.
I've always wondered what that extra kick drum, with shallow depth, does… I'm assuming it isn't just for show right?
Rendy Aryanto, it is a woofer. Its used to capture the low end coming out of the kick drum. It has an internal mic.
Rendy Aryanto it's a sub-kick
Marco is one funky dude. not just fast
