    I dig the format A LOT ... I can listen to it while I work. It's straight forward and easily digestible. You're able to communicate what you want to in a concise way, without the distraction of others. The only issue I'm having is that I like to take notes during these videos and I find myself being distracted a bit hahaha :)

    It was great, I could totally relate to the "meetings"one. We conduct meeting for college group project and we spend hours but at the end of the meeting nothing actually gets done. After watching this video , I'm sure I'll be able make our meeting more productive. Thank you Sir for this!

    Chris, I am gonna tell one thing man, straight!!!
    I see the future me in you!
    When you are demonstrating how things should be and how to do it, I guessed it somehow in advance. It feels like we are exactly same!
    And when you said you need the deadline to get your creative juice flowing, I mean, that's me dude!
    I work exactly the same way!!!
    From my side, I think if I don’t charge more for the things I enjoy doing, the amount of creativity gets shut down subconsciously. In order to get our creative juice flowing I have to charge more otherwise I Won't Enjoy Doing It!
    If you're seeing this, I gotta tell you man, I see you as my mentor cause I see myself in you!
    Thanks for all these content!
    And I believe, I will see you soon!
    Till then, Please don't die😑

      It's been my experience that the business classes that are taught in design schools tend to focus on how to run a freelance design practice. They cover things like: setting up an llc, invoicing, bidding, client best practices, professional practice, mindset, etc... The conversations should be more geared towards learning the language of business.

    Great video, I'm curious if you can share any of your strategy for figuring out the "value to client" more directly? For example, the tangibles of things like "click thru" are difficult to monetize without much research and analytics as well that may have to be done after the fact. Also I would assume you could just ask, but It's likely something the client would be on guard because it would put them as the weaker position at the bargaining table for pricing.

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ask. their guard is up because they don't trust you. earn their trust first then you can enter into this dialogue.

  • @mikemikemikemike221
    @mikemikemikemike221 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Chris, could you record a video about "how to write a bid/proposal" ? We always sell the benefits rather than the cost of labor, but we struggle to display a budget to our clients without breaking down the cost per hour and the cost of each step of the process (we are mostly creating websites).
    Or if you have any example of a well-written budget, would you mind sharing it?

  • @hvaranhvaran
    @hvaranhvaran 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is an awesome video. Thank you!
    I found out that some of this things I've learned by doing. For example - 15:25 or #52, I found that when I'm making a video or animation for the client, I must look on it as we are working with him for his clients/viewers etc, so I'm not trying to solely satisfy his idea and style, but willing to make a product that be liked by his audience and match his needs of what effect it must bring to his/her company.

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep. make sure that the audience is really the audience and not just a surrogate for you. many times, designers will think what they are doing is in service of the audience, but it's really just self serving.

    • @hvaranhvaran
      @hvaranhvaran 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you mean on surrogate? You mean being respectful to them and acknowledge who they really are, treat them as "humans" and not as fantastic or stereotypical idea of an audience?
      And thank you so much for being active in responding to people. I appreciate that a lot.

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see this happen often. Designer: I think this is what your audience will need. That's why I think we should go this direction. Client: What do you know about our customers? Designer: Silence.
      That's what I mean. Some designers used the "customer's POV" as a substitute for their own opinion. If you truly profile the audience/customer with your client, then you'll arrive at the same conclusion. If they forget, gently remind them.

    • @hvaranhvaran
      @hvaranhvaran 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get what you saying. I tend to do a do a check in my head always when I'm making this propositions - "Is this a thing that I like or it's what audience would like?".
      If it's "chat" it's easier to control, but if I'm speaking with client in person I just try to imagine the situation for myself differently. As not like I'm standing in front of the client and doing all the work for client, but as I'm standing next to him and doing the work in different ways for both - the client and the audience.
      Thank you for sharing your wisdom

      thankyou!
      im in australia sydney. i work in an advertising agency with 2 friends i graduated with. you have inspired us to start our own design business, something we've talked about for so long without any perspective on how. we specialise in 3d animation and are very fluent in 2d animation in after effects. we do alot of 3d products and 2d explainer videos. we scared of the financial side of things as we lack experience.
      question: how do we calculate our initial runway to kick start our business successfully?
      how should our first job look like?
      thankyou so much for being who you are, we owe you %10 of future sales.

    Yes, I really enjoyed this review - and enjoyed the presentation of the review even better. However I feel this should be a part of a series renamed to "Bedtime Business Stories with Master Do" :)
