This was the easiest method I've seen for basket liners and it was a really easy to follow video.
I had looked all over at other patterns called for 5+ pieces of fabric cut outs and to use a serger and stuff. This one was so simple and efficient with materials. It's very beginner friendly and I hope you keep making more videos like this.

will this work if bottom is smaller and top is larger still a rectangle on bottom and top?
How much smaller?

You can try with an old piece of fabric firsr.It may just work.
