A new video by one of the most soulful guitarists in the world. A genuine performance with the utmost level of touch, dynamic and absolute effortless creativity flowing freely all over the place. Always happy to see you mate. Much love!
Well comments like yours make it a pleasure to post on TH-cam. Thank you man 🍻
you are truly one of the unique guitar voices on the internet.
Well thank you so much raslolayton! Your comment has left me smiling 🍻
Paul, you play some truly beautiful stuff. Phrasing is sweeeeet.
Thank you David 👍
Sublime, world class playing Paul. Your tone and feel are amazing and your day in the Light will come. Stevie is an awesome guy! He sorted my 50 yr old Laney with a MV and I've never looked back. Wishing you the great future you so deserve Paul.
Thank you Brian, for those words at the end of your comment. Your book sits on my wee shelf in my guitar room and serves as a reminder of your thoughtfulness. Cheers Brian, enjoy your week 🍻
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Success will come Paul. The book was merely to show you that you are not alone and just to be Paul. That's enough.
Oh wow, I just loved the piece you played at the beginning on the Jazzmaster.
Well thank you Robert! Cheers 🍻
What a holiday that intro was. I can hear your joy with the amp flowing into my ears.
Well thank you deviusfeilds 👍. Delighted you liked it.
Sounds excellent. Cheers
I still have the amp and is quite as any big amp can be. Definitely the reverb section is noisy till you flip the tank. I went crazy trying to find the source of this noise. Twins are incredible amps bar none. Cheers
Ahaaa!!! Lovely clean tone, with lots of character. Delicious floaty trem, and fantastic chordal selection. Paul, you have done it again. Close your eyes and drift away stuff. Great
Thanks mate, I aim to please 🤣. Cheers
Hi Paul, I just came home from an extended weekend in Oslo with my wife, and first thing is of course to watch your video. What a surprise to hear my name pop up.Thanks for the shout out of my channel and the kind words. You're the best! I have kind of the same thing about the headstock on Les Paul guitars that if they don't look the thing and say Gibson it won't give me the right vibe. Although my Korean made Epiphone is a great one - but yeah, I recognise the thing about that logo and headstock. On the Greco, the headstock has the open book shape and the Greco logo resembles the Gibson logo. Add to it that it has a vintage vibe and look... We're getting closer 😄 So glad to see that you got your Twin fixed. It sounds ace with your Les Paul. Cheers mate.
Hi Thor, it’s my absolute pleasure to point my viewers in your direction. One of them pointed out that Chris Buck has a much loved Greco. And made the interesting point that Chris is probably now in a position to play any Les Paul he chooses - and he chooses his Greco! So I guess if Thor Oliverson and Chris Buck love their Grecos, then that’s all we need to know 🤘
@@paulstaffordcook8799 I will just mention that I've had a couple of low end Greco's earlier on, and they did not give me the same feeling of quality. Good guitars by all means, but probably chambered and with cheaper hardware/electronics. Something to be aware of. Being mentioned in the same sentence as Chris Buck made my day 🥳 Thank you Paul.
Very enjoyable watch as always Paul. Thank you. I do love how you’ve likened you’re affection for your Twin to an illicit fling. I’ll be first in line for your Junior when you want to part with it.
Thanks Dan. Yes, this fling is fun, and I’m sure it’ll all end in tears 🤣
Thank you Paul for another great video. Am glad Stevie sorted it. He’s a good guy and really knows his stuff. Best wishes and good health from Glasgow 🎸👍❤️
Thanks Frank! Cheers
Beautiful. I’m so glad you were able to solve the noise issue. I hope I didn’t point you in the wrong direction with my Two Notes Captor suggestion.
Thanks renodavid. And I do believe that the Captor would also have worked a treat.
Oh man! That’s sounding like it should now! I knew you could get that fixed. So happy for you. Lots of inspiration awaits your hands.
Thank you Denmar 🍻
I've just sold on my twin and got a little fender 68 custom vibro reverb champ instead and I'm in love sounds great and volume is perfect for using at home takes pedals really nicely too seems to built like a tank so far used it tons with zero issues. Great playing as always.
Sounds like you’re happy with your choice. And far more appropriate for home use etc. Cheers dwangs 🍻
Thanks, Paul, for another great episode and some tasty learning material, it is fascinating to hear about the Greco LP and the tie-up with Tokai, thanks for the link to Guitars and Gizmos.
Cheers Grant, enjoy the rest of your Sunday 🍻
Great vid Paul. As always. I had the 68 Princeton reissue until yesterday when i sold it. At home i used an Audio storm attenuator with it. Noise gone and fantastic drive sound at around 7. I have a Flynn Tweed Pro at the moment, brilliant hand wired work of art, although i have it up for sale through a local guitar shop. Im raising funds to get Flynn Tweed Deluxe.
It’s funny, I do think one day I’ll shell out for a Flynn amp. And it’s encouraging to read that, whilst you’re letting one go, you’re planning to replace it with another Flynn. Cheers Jeff 🍻
Good to hear from another person solving the noise issue with an attenuator. I was beginning to think I was nuts. 🤪
So very happy you got the Twin sorted out Paul.
Thank you Mike 🍻
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Can you please name the Master Volume mod? I guess it's a PPIMV (Post Phase Inverter) - could you please ask your amp tech if you don't know?
@@mrtruefifthOk doke, I’ll give the Tech a ring tomorrow and I’ll add it to the video’s description field 👍
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Thanks a lot !!! I got noise issues like this as well - and I'm gonna have the same mods done for sure!
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Oh - also really wanted to ask you about if your master volume takes away any high end? I have another amp where a MV takes quite a bit high end when on max...
I've heard adding a master control instead of the standby reducing the noise, but not entirely. Congratulations Stevie!👌
Nicely done on the intro mash-up, Paul. Seems the unruly has been tamed, for now.😂
Never been a fan of the chrome strings, nickel flat wound have so much more life in all the tones.🤙
Cheers GW 🍻

Stevie is a genius! Just sorted my Princeton, put a 12” Celestion in it. It’s ridiculously expensive sounding. Great playing the Jazzmaster and your fingers. I use TI 11 flats great, don’t bother with the shootout! Chromes just don’t come close.
What Celestion?
@@ricardososa7534 vintage 30 I think. I’m in Cyprus right now. Dbl check on Thursday. Man what a difference.
Thanks for another great post Paul! Hope you have a great weekend 😎👍🎶
Thanks Michael, you too 👍
The 68 reissue has half the negative feedback of a regular vintage twin reverb. That's the source of the noise.
Its literally one resistor.. a common mod is to make the NFB (negative feedback) switchable with 2-3 different values. Full, half, off.
Personally I like the master volume on a twin. Pre or post phase inverter w/e. All works.
Glad you got it sorted!
Thanks cgavin 👍
Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles, blessed silence! Congratulations!
🤣, thanks jltrem.
Amazing! Great to hear the amp performing beautifully as well!
Thanks Bambule 👍
Interesting, I'm building a Jazzmaster and had thought I didn't want the rhythm circuit and had some plans for other switching options but todays piece has made me at least reconsider. Lovely playing as ever
Thanks John. Yes, the rhythm circuit can certainly come in handy 😊 (but certainly not a priority, if you have other more exciting ideas).
Playing that guitar making you mellow .
Another months worth of work, thanks Paul.
🤣, cheers Neil
so, so beautiful. I've never heard playing like it, thank you for sharing - now, where's my guitar!!?
I’m delighted you liked it James. Happy noodling 🎸
Came for the amplifier, and stayed for the tasteful, melodic playing.
Well thank you Aitken
Great work Paul...gorgeous tone 👏 👏
Thanks Paul 🍻
Hi Paul, I used to use a real-late 60s twin but it got the better of my back & had to look for something easier to manage, now I’m kicking myself! But the amp did come in at around 86 lbs!
At 86lbs I think you can be forgiven 🍻
Mesmerizingly beautiful.
Well thank you man, delighted you liked it 🍻
Beautiful tone and playing
Thanks Sammominks 👍
Hey brother. Beautiful playing and tones as usual…funny story: i posted the first in a three part series of vids today about tommy bolins playing on billy cobhams red baron, off his spectrum album…the thumbnail was titled “Best. Guitar. Jam. Ever.” Immediately upon posting it i saw this vid with your thumbnail and quickly redid my thumb and reposted it to say something else! You beat me to it brother! And since youre far and away the better guitarist, i concede the headline structure to you, good sir! 😅
Cannot find this video - more info please!,
Thank you Jeremy, I’m delighted you liked it. I’ve just had a quick listen to one of your vids. One of your Tim Lerch studies. Absolutely lovely!
Awesome video have a great weekend Paul ❤😊 also happy first week of fall 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴🍂🎸
Thanks Aminahmed 👍. I’m lucky enough to be on a week’s holiday to Italy. So it’s amazing to be sitting here in 23 degrees 🍻. Enjoy your week.
Jesus, What a Tone... Loved it!!
Please... I am a Fender type of guy. Play with it. Thanks.
Thanks Ivan! Delighted you liked it. Enjoy your week 🍻
Well impressed with that Paul!
Cheers Paul 👍
Can it break up quieter then the cornell?
@@Paul-DI’d say it’s still not as good for “edge of break up” as the Cornell. So I guess I’m saying that the Cornell’s in built attenuator is still more effective than a master volume.
Hey Paul, Chris Buck plays a Greco. I'm sure at this point he could play just about any Les Paul he wants and that is what he chooses. Says a lot to me. I've been contemplating having my noisy '68 Deluxe Reverb RI modded for awhile. Maybe this video will give me the push I need! Oh, and I can definitely picture myself sitting in the hotel bar and listening to this. Cheers
I came onto the comments to say the same thing, but I see you beat me to it!
Thanks David, yeah I can certainly recommend it. 🍻
Thanks a lot Paul! Great info here 👍🏼
Thanks Donal
donkeys years ago, I used to use my mate's Twin, best sounding amp I ever played through but unbearably, blisteringly loud and , cos it sounded so good turned up a bit, always ended up at ear destroying volume - the master vol is a great mod
Hello Paul , just talk as much as you want 😀, the twin sounds great !
Lovely stuff. My ‘88 Les Paul Custom still sounds good but my elderly 70s Fender Pro Reverb has just given up the ghost and I can’t find a repairer in Cornwall…..👍🍷
That’s a shame about your Pro Reverb….. Well regardless, enjoy the rest of your Sunday Emlyn 🍻
extraordinary!
Thank you Curtrod 👍
Greco was a Fujigen guitar, on a par with the best of the 'lawsuit' models by Tokai et al. Some truly great instruments came out of there. All this is IIRC !
I owed 2 greco. Both were les paul copies. They were god guitars, looked wonderful, sounded great and played well. They did have the narrow nut spec gibson nut (matching later 70s gibson), and this made them feel distinct from other Gibson style guitars. If you have played fenders alot you may find them comfortable as this narrow nut feels fendery. However, for me this ended up being a deal breaker and I ultimately let them go.
Another thing to note is you must check the model. Some of the cheaper greco les pauls have maple necks and non-carved tops. If you are concerned about these specs do you research first.
Thanks Alexander. I took your advice and did a little research. Yes, it seems there’s loads of good videos out there, discussing Grecos from year to year, and how they evolved. Cheers 🍻
Tomastiks or not, that Jazzmaster always sounds great.
So nice playing in the intro! Is it based on a song? If so - which one?
Delighted you liked it. No, it’s just noodling that started to develop, until it’s now become this weird concoction of influences 🤣. I’m hugely inspired by Tobias Hoffmann, so I often ask myself “what would Tobias do now?”. And that influences my direction.
Give the Chromes a while to break in, they’ll darken up with time. I’ve used them for years. That said, the 10s might be a little light for the tone you’re seeking. I use 12s for standard and 13s for drop tuning.
if you made an album with a song compilation with your tunes id def pay for both digital and vinyl
Thanks Eric, I might do that one day. Cheers 🍻
Beautiful guitar playing! Sounds very “Hawaiian Slack-key” inspired. The D’Addario Chromes may not feel right to you, but they sound fine. Master volume mod seems to gave done the trick, noise-wise) I would like to know what type of master volume was added. The most transparent (i.e. doesn’t change the tone as you turn it down) is the Post Phase Inverter master volume (PPIMV, found in Trainwreck, Dumble clones, etc). It is often done on vintage Fender amps because there’s plenty of room to fit it in (requires installation of a dual-ganged potentiometer…). Another easy, completely reversible mod you can try is pulling out two of the power tubes (either the outside pair or the inside pair so that you still have 1 push and 1 pull…should consult your guitar tech before trying). which reduces the power by ~50%. You can also reduce noise somewhat by substituting 5751s for the 12ax7s in position V1 and V2.
Hi Jeremy. I talked to the amp tech the other day…. and I can now confirm that it’s a Post Phase Inverter 👍
Beutiful les paul paul im not usually a les paul guy because of their weight i love tele's but thats a nice black beauty.
Thanks Paul 👍
How'd I end up on this cloud, what!
Do you know What kind Of master volume your tech put in the amp ?
I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue and its noisy as Well
Hi Mikkel. I’ve just been on the phone with my Tech. He says it’s a “Post Phase Inverter”. Hope that helps 👍
@@paulstaffordcook8799 thank you so much :) I think it would do wonders for a lad like me who plays at home in a apartment.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 can you remember how loud you were on the master volume ?
@@MikkelKelsoFrandsenHi Mikkel. The channel volume was around 5 and the Master was ….. (it’s on the back of the amp and I don’t think it’s numbered)…. was on around 1.5. Or at least what I would consider to be 1.5 if it was numbered. Hope that helps.
I put an attenuator on my deluxe reverb 68 and it got rid of the noise
That’s what worked on my old Custom Vibrolux Reissue! Thank you, I had never heard of anyone else finding this fix. I have a Two Notes Captor. What are you using?
@@renodavid tone King iron Man 2 mini
@@jdl2180Very cool. Happy to hear you found a solution. 👍
My 68 Custom Princeton makes all sorts of bloody noises that are nothing to do with me 😔
I totally know what you mean 🤣. It’s like they’re human and have moods. And they seem very sensitive to what your electricity supply is doing at any given moment. I swear that when Mrs Smith from 5 doors down puts her washing machine on, my amps make sympathy noises!
@@paulstaffordcook8799 😂😭
Hey Paul Tokais are knock offs that’s it. The guy you are referring too made a series of videos where claims his Korean Epiphone was better than his friends Gibson Customshop. Sorry no credibility there when it comes to his opinoins.
Well, to be fair, I said it made me sell my Custom Shop, which is true. I then brought the Epi to my friend to have a chat with him and compare it to his Custom Shop Les Paul. I never said it was better.
