    I made your lightbox and it works GREAT! The one thing your video is missing though, in my humble opinion, are photos you took using your lightbox. My images are excellent! And just as impressive was the fact that everything you said to get at the dollar store was actually at the dollar store! What the heck? That RARELY happens. Ha! Thanks again!

    I did and add a strip of lights to it for product photography. Came out great.

      Wouldnt the strip of lights need a defused barrier as well? Is it defeating the purpose after the fact? I ask because i had the strip light plan ready to go before i watched this video and read the informative comments. In saying this i still want to use those strip lights making the light box self sustainable when traveling. How should these led strip lights be placed in this design?

    • @THATOVOKID

      @@erickadunn2226 I wrapped them around the inside of the box, cut a slit at the bottom and used wire to hold up the remaining cord to plug it into my adaptor.

    I'm sure somebody has likely commented, given the age of this nonetheless excellent video, but math says the cutout should be 16" x 16", given 20-2-2=16 ....the allowance for the border of 2" has to come off both sides. I plan on building off this same idea, modifying the design to be fold-up with fabric tape hinges. The simplicity and effectiveness of this design, plus low cost, gave me enough leftover to get a couple other background sheets (clouds/sky, water/ocean) to mix up product photos.

    • @EsmereldaPea

      Where did you purchase your background sheets? The Dollar Tree poster board I bought is a bit too small.

    Thanks. I built these before with cardboard boxes and fabric for the diffuser, but they were always too small or flimsy.
    I built this light box this morning, and it's REALLY GOOD and the price was right! Got everything from Dollar Tree. Very happy with it, thanks very much for this video. I've already shared it with several people.

    Are the side openings good enough for the light source or can I also add an opening in the top like I see in a lot of light boxes. I do like the size of yours I have many medium to larger products to list. Am I missing something on the 20”x20” pieces if you take 2” in from each side wouldn’t that be a 16”x16” square piece your removing not 18”x18”?

  • @DawgsChamp88
    @DawgsChamp88 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you very much for your video. I have made a light box before very similar. It was a cube, but wound up being too small. I love how yours is wider for larger items. Mine had tissue as my side diffusers which isn't durable at all. I love your idea of the white table cover. I did not think about that. It's a perfect idea. Also the idea for the binder clips holding the poster board is genius. I didn't think of that either. I've used my white or black crushed velvet fabric all scrunched up and drapped through the top edge like where you have your poster board clipped. The crushed velvet doesn't have to be perfect and it's not reflective. I will try the poster board idea (I like that) and I have a gazillion binder clips so I don't have to buy those or paint sticks.
    As I was listening to the ending of your video, I was scrolling to read some comments and saw Jerry's comment about Can't wait to take some damn photos in my lightbox, then heard you say it. I got a kick outta that. I can't wait to go buy new foamboard and a white table cover to make a new light box so I can go take some damn pictures in my lightbox. Thanks for the video dude. You are awesome!

    I don't understand where the lights go. I want to build a setup very similar to this. I plan to do the top panel similar to how you did the sides. I want to use some rgbw led strips for lighting, but if I just drape the light strip over the diffuser, will it even work the same? Do the lights have to be a distance from the diffuser for the diffuser to be effective?

    For the table cloth does it have to be a specific material? Would the featherweight interfacing work better?

    • @EsmereldaPea
      @EsmereldaPea ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be too heavy or have too much texture. You could also use vellum. You can buy large format at art supply stores. I bought some after watching a different video. I'm going to try the tablecloth first and see how that works. If it doesn't or seems too flimsy, I'll use the vellum.
      Edited to say that I used freezer paper instead as I wanted something more sturdy than the tablecloth. It seems a little dark, but I haven't added extra lights yet. If I can't get enough light, I might take the freezer paper out and use the Vellum.

  • @blairwaverly
    @blairwaverly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What does the plastic sheeting on the sides help with vs just more foam board? I'm new to photography, thanks!!

    • @spyrosheniadis
      @spyrosheniadis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. The particular foam board I got from the dollar store is actually transparent enough to let light through if you’re using a flash, but it’s still pretty thick, and will block a significant amount of light. So for anyone using lamps or LED lights, the tablecloth is much better because it still diffuses the light, but it lets way more through than the solid sheet of foam board would.

      I have the same predicament, but I think if you did decide to do that, you can cover the top up with something that blocks light to have both options available.

    • @EsmereldaPea
      @EsmereldaPea ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an old video, but I had the same question. Having something to cover is a great idea. I think I'll use the cut out, taping some of the extra foam core to the sides and maybe stack some smaller pieces up in the center to make a handle.
      Then I'm going to return the $30 of vellum and card stock I bought at the art supply store!

  • @adrianaduquette2698

    It was hard to tell in the video...did you double up the tablecloth on each side of the box? For example, one layer on the outside, one layer on the inside on side #1; and then one layer on the outside, one layer on the inside on side #2?

    • @spyrosheniadis
      @spyrosheniadis  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did do two layers on the outside, though you could definitely get more diffusion if you do two layers on the outside and two layers on the inside.

    • @adrianaduquette2698
      @adrianaduquette2698 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great idea!
      As a side note...how much light should you have on each side?
      Also, do you angle the lights at 90deg to the side panel, or at 45deg toward the back panel of the box?
