I could not sleep so I decided to try and learn something instead. Your video was both informative and relaxing. I think you are an excellent teacher. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this!
Thank you for this video. I live in the U.S.A. and had to do a little sleuthing to find this for sale in our country (Amazon) but for those here in the U.S.A. this is the SAMTIAN 24" and the color is listed as the F60II. As of today's comment, it's listed at $98.63 but your mileage may vary. I think sometimes they tailor pricing to you. I can't verify that but...anyhow, thank you again this was a valuable video for me.
this vid was so helpful, excellent advice! just perfect for photographing my wooden items using the phone too 👍👍 id never have thought about taking 1.1 pics, always used 16.9 and struggled massively
I cant order using your affiliate link, so I’ll drop a little bit this way to say thanks. I’ve been DIYing with awful results, and your tutorial really helped.
Thank you Martin. I bought a very similar set up from B&H Photo here in the US for $80. Works really well, especially for the high gloss pieces. Since my DSLR is much better than my phone camera, I tend to use that. Interesting video and it gave me a couple of ideas to further improve my set up.
Hi Martin. Really liked your video. Very straightforward and easy to follow. I looked for a lightbox similar to yours on Amazon but didn't see one. I like yours because the LED lights are adjustable and most of the boxes shown have built-in lights. Could tell me where to find the link? Didn't see it on your website. Thank you.
Just wanted thank you for the light box review. Having bought many variations and found them less than useful, I was reluctant to buy another. After watching your review a couple of times I decided to purchase one. It arrived today and after a quick assembly I was taking fuss free photos. Again many thanks for your review.
Useful video Martin, I have a tent style box, but the lighting is ad-hock and basically beyond my very low patience level! This one seems to have everything balanced together, which is much better.
Brilliant idea Martin allowing the user to get the most out of their efforts to stunning effects love the simplicity and ease of storage regards Martin
Thanks. I bought a light box a while back from Amazon but the lights get so hot I'm afraid they will start a fire. Headed off to find new lights. Cheers!
Thanks Martin. I was looking for a lightbox for my turnings, was watching video reviews and who should appear but you! I was really settled on a different one but you sold me on this one for a number of reasons, 1, the movable lights. 2, you seem really happy with it and 3 you've been using it for 2 to 3 years and it seems to be working fine! Also, having watched a number of your turning videos I trust what you are saying. Also, a brilliant review in the sense of walking us through your set-up and use. Some great pointers and tips, Thanks.
Hello. Thank you for such an excellent video. You described everything in great detail that is so useful and beneficial those who are looking into taking product pictures, like me. Thank you very much. I produce handmade products that require photography too and they are reflective. So what you shown us was really very useful. Bless you sir.
Great help. Of course the camera exposure is calibrated to 18% middle grey, which is why your white background is not white. But this is easily fixed by adjusting the exposure..
I was considering getting one of these for ages but wasn’t sure about the quality of photos taken in these. Thank you for this video :) If I decide to get one from Amazon I’ll definitely use your link ;)
Very helpful but I'm very new to using a lightbox and I'm always struggling with the way the light bounces off the curve of the background. How do you work around that? Is it something you have to fix in post?
That was very helpful thanks Martin. Ive a smaller version of the same box and tend to catch the side of the frame a lot in my photos, which i then have to crop out. Maybe the bigger box is the answer to that. Also Im going to switch to the grey background now as i didnt realise that the white was washing out the shadow. Thanks for the tips. 👍
Thank you for making this video. I usually photograph jewelry and I just purchased a 12" x 12" light box. It is awesome. I'm still learning so hopefully 😌 will get even better as I have more experience.
Thank you for great review. Your link for the light box is not working. Do you know where I could get one of these in 80cm? All I can find has a skeleton construction to hold it.. Your is more convenient.. I am also in AU. Thank you in advance😇
Your video was very informative as I am shopping for a Light Box and looking for features (backgrounds, diffuser, openings) that I want included in its purchase plus ease of set-up. Also appreciated your demonstration of moving the light bars up and down to get the desired effect.
Thank you so much for a very helpful video. I would really like to buy the same light box as yours - the movable lights are a great advantage. I've tried the link you gave, but unfortunately it's not available on Amazon. Do you know of anywhere else that might sell it? Does it have a name on it?
Thank you this really helped but i have a little problem when i take the pictures even though the background is clean,in the photos there are little dirt places, what can i do them to go away? (The background is clear.)
Great video, have you looking into getting a bluetooth photo shutter or bluetooth controller? You paid these with the phone and then you can remotely take photos without having to touch the phone! I know that you can use the timer function on your phone but it's just simpler to use the bluetooth controller to take the shots. Most bluetooth controllers that are used for gaming often have a 'mouse mode' so it can be used to both take the shot and control the focus.
Great video! Straightforward concise info that was very helpful. In my case, I have that exact box and also the same phone so it was especially good info. Thanks for these type of videos. Jim
Cheers Martin for this great video into using a light box to make your sales posts look more professional. Needless to say I’m getting one ordered ASAP. Cheers bud😂. But shouldn’t this be a secret? 😉😆
Martin I have great difficulty having the background remain in place. Do you secure it some way? this was not clear in the video. Or is it perhaps left in the box when you pack up? I have been reluctant to use the box because of the time taken to repeatedly replace the background and to keep my blood pressure in the normal range. Thanks Colin
Informative and useful video ... thank you! I have a similar lightbox, and often use a clean piece of plexiglass as a reflective 'floor' ... produces a nice effect.
Hi Martin! Thanks for this lovely insight in your product photography. Never considered using a grey background, but I may have to switch to it… looks awesome for items that aren‘t „flashy“. And I’ll have to adjust the placement of my light bars, too! I‘ve got an old iPhone that is not as suitable as yours seems to be for product shots so I usually have to bring out my camera. I’d love to switch to a phone, though. Would you mind sharing which model Samsung you were using in this vid? 😀
They slide into full width pockets at the top and bottom. Being quite stiff plastic, the backgrounds hold themselves into place. Not had a problem with any of them.
Why do my (and your) images always come out dark, with a grey background? These light boxes are lit up like the sun. And yet, we get dark pics. I don't get it.
I could, yes. I choose not to, to keep the shadows and the background as they should be. Lifting it would alter the shadow beneath the piece to make it look unnatural. It just won't look right.
HOW DO YOU GET RID OF THE GRAYNESS OF THE PHOTO THAT COMES WITH TAKING PHOTO WITH SMARTPHONE?... @4:35 YOU CAN SEE ON THE LEFT THAT THE IMAGE HAS THIS DULL BACKGROUND INSTEAD OF CLEAR PRISTINE WHITE.. WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS?
Never noticed a poor quality exposure when using my phones. I choose a neutral grey background to get the natural colours of the piece. If I wanted a pristine white background instead of the grey, I would use the white background screen that is provided with the light box.
Runifuceeme: I noticed/thought the same thing...I am not sure how much control of exposure and metering you have on a smartphone, but as somebody else mentioned in a previous post, it looks like the camera on the phone is trying to reduce the back ground to 18% grey....However if you were using say a DSLR camera, you would expose for the object, and allow the white back ground to blow out a bit...Then it would be a case of using the exposure compensation to fine tune the results....
I could not sleep so I decided to try and learn something instead. Your video was both informative and relaxing. I think you are an excellent teacher. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this!
Plain, simple and straight to the point! My grateful thanks for an informative video that was an excellent watch. 👍
My dealer never mentioned this to me, so I greatly appreciated so that I was able to get used to it BEFORE I needed it. Thanks so much! 👊🏼

Thank you. A very helpful video. I’m looking for ways to improve my Etsy shop photos. Thanks again.
“The phones on modern cameras” It’s cool we all have little flubs here and there!🤣 Good work ❗️
Thank you so much. I'm starting up a hobby that might take off and I purchased a light box to get pics. You easy instructions will really help.
Thanks so much for this. I have the same light box and NEVER thought about moving the lights around like that.
I was looking for a Light box and stumbled on your video and now I bought the same one! Thanks for a great video!
Thank you Martin! Your shared experience on smartphones & soft boxes was very helpful .

Brilliant video, answered 2 questions in 1 for me , what a lightbox is and can you take good pics with a phone. Thanks 👏

Hi Brian. Glad it was useful for you.
Excellent, relaxing and easy to follow.
Very useful, have just purchased the tent for watch photography and the techniques used here are transferable to my hobby.
Nice demonstration, got a lot more from it than from reading a few articles before that :D

Same here. Video is super informative but I can’t find a light box with moveable lights.

Hi there, I’m struggling to find the link to this light box, could you tell me please which make and model it is please? TIA

But what is the brand and product?
There are loads of them from various brands. They seem to change names and product features all the time.
Brilliant tips, particularly in relation to shadows. Thank you.

You can show us using phone camera and any other dslr camera

Such a helpful video - been looking for a photo box to buy - love this size and the light/other features. Love discovering your channel!
I am cataloging for a museum and this helps digitize the catalog with images as well
Glad it was helpful!
Have you ever used two light bars (or other light source) to help with shadow control?
All the time, yes
Thank you so much for this 🙂
You can give more padding with photoshop by stretching the background...
Informative and useful video ... thank you! I have a similar lightbox, and often use a clean piece of plexiglass as a reflective 'floor' ... produces a nice effect.
Oh yes! The plexiglass bottom is a great technique for a subtle reflection.

Hi Martin, what’s the largest size item you can photograph in that tent before seeing the back corners becomes an issue?
Good question. Les and I have literally just photographed a 14 x 3" bowl easily....so I would say 14" wide being the maximum.
@@msabansmith thanks Martin, that’s good to know. Was looking at the 80cm variant but it’s pole built and not fold down so wanted to avoid that
Is it possible to buy these lightbars separately?
I would think so, but you will have to research it as I bought the unit completed.
Hi mate, quick question @M. Saban Smith Woodturning - that amazon link for the light box, does it come with the lights or is that separate? thanks.
Can you tell me which video you explain how to use and seal embellishing waxes. Thanks
Check out the Hampshire Sheen channel. There are several short videos on the embellishing waxes there with different ideas, hints and tips.
Thank You
Its now out of stock, and I cant see anything similar (with the option to light from the front). Do you know of any similar ones?
Thank you 😊😊😊
Can you do overhead images?
Yes. There is a open and closeable hole in the top
My light box is broken i think the light just dims down on its own and doesn't stay at it's brightest any help please? Thanks
Sorry I can't help. You'll need to contact the manufacturer or shop you purchased it from.

Hi, where are the lights from please?
Thank you.
How on earth do you attache the background colours? There is no velcro etc.
They slide into full width pockets at the top and bottom. Being quite stiff plastic, the backgrounds hold themselves into place. Not had a problem with any of them.
Where did you buy your light box kit?
There's a link in the video description.
Why do my (and your) images always come out dark, with a grey background? These light boxes are lit up like the sun. And yet, we get dark pics. I don't get it.
Why don't you elevate the bowl that is lower using props?
I could, yes. I choose not to, to keep the shadows and the background as they should be. Lifting it would alter the shadow beneath the piece to make it look unnatural. It just won't look right.

The background is grey, not white. White is too stark for me. Grey show the colours of the piece more accurately and doesn't blow out highlights.
But ist still Grey the background it looks bad
They grey, being a neutral colour does not detract from the piece. Neutral backgrounds are preferable as busy/colourful backgrounds reduce sales.
