What about stretching the hamstrings when you have spondyloisthesis? Every PT I have been to wants me to stretch them as they are very tight and say that they can worsen my condition if left go. However, stretching them does not seem to go very well. Please advise and thank you.
Soft tissue injury in calf area. Dr recommended stretching..not over stretching...to help with the tightness. Tried these exercises and helped me a lot!! Thank you. Had used heat right away when I hurt myself...should have used ice pack. But feeling much better...thank goodness.
Question, you have another video for sciatica where you do recommend stretching the hamstrings, granted it was from several years ago. So you do not recommend stretching hamstrings at all anymore?
Thank you so very much, these videos are so helpful and lifegiving. This morning at the gym I did the Cobra and some exercises you recommend to strengthen muscles and prevent sciatic nerve pain. I also use two pillows in bed under my knees when I am on my back reading. I can not sleep with the pillows yet, but I am trying to. I am following your videos and doing the exercises and it works ! Thank you ! 🙏
I’m having PT for sciatica issues and that first stretch (the one in the pic) feels like I’m ripping up my butt muscles. Hamstrings barely react. 2 months into PT, I can only confirm what you’re saying : I now do the exercises without pain but…I still can’t walk. That Still Hurts like the first day. Conclusion : exercises are useless to alleviate pain but Yes they do make the muscles better. Then, PT added the dead bug. I’m overweight. Dead bug Multiplies the effect of my legs being heavier than someone else’s. It really reminds me of gym classes in my youth. A real trauma, I now realize. I try doing the dead bug and I’m super Angry for the rest of the day. When are those exercises finally going to be adapted to a person’s weight ? Never I guess. My youth was 50 years ago.
I think dead bug is good, but be sure you lift your legs only as far as is comfortable and don't try to push beyond that. That's true for any exercise when you are dealing with nerve pain that affects your mobility. Progress will be slow but if you do these exercises carefully and consistently, you will see progress over time. Don't do anything that makes your pain worse and give it a few months of gently finding positions that allow you to relieve the pressure on the nerves. As your mobility improves, you can start being more active. And if you can cut refined sugar and alcohol completely out of your diet you will be able to lose some of that extra weight. It's not easy but it's worth it in the long run. Good luck!
@@skiziskin Thank you ! As at today, muscles continued to improve with consistent exercising but… I still can’t walk. Hanging in there, with the hope that one day I soon I can hike. The advice not to do anything that makes it worse is great. I’ve had a few setbacks due to a tough resistance band and too strenuous exercise. I also lost 6 kg with fasting and low carb. Thanks for your advice !
7:16 'effective leg' do you mean the one experiencing the pain or the one without it. I tried it with the one with pain but could barely get any motion going before the symptoms flared up even in the resting position. I tried it with the other leg, the one without the symptom pain, and i could feel a good stretch affecting my lower back.
Oh I know that's a strong component of it, @RichRich1955. The psychological healing comes after the physical healing. Give yourself some grace and work on your core strength and I know you'll get there! Good luck!
I like your exercises (for a normal person). If there’s a chance, I’d like to watch something for kyphosis patients (wedged bones in the spine) please.
Thank you for your support, @ivanmytube! Here's a video of mine you might benefit from; patients usually do really well with these suggestions for kyphosis issues: th-cam.com/video/q8c_52moIVg/w-d-xo.html
Hlw sir I want to ask you a question. I am suffering from cervical disc bulge problem and I am now recovering slowly . And my question is that after I recover totally and I have no nerve problems and neck pain . Can I back to play sports again?? I am a sports lover and I basically play cricket. So my question is that after my total recovery can I play sports again ??
Are there schiatica pains which doesn' t have to do with the intervertebral discs but with an injury or disease of the lower parts of the ischias nerve?
Sir how to target hamstring muscles in the gym if someone has sciatica.. coz targeting hamstring recreates the problem.. what is the safest way to do so...
The table thing worked thank you! I’ve had sciatica for 7 months, an mri shows it’s degradation of the spine in the lower back. How many times a day can I do the table exercise?🤭
How sciatica is detected? I have been suffering from lower back pain on left side and physiotherapy session along with muscle relaxing medicines gives me temporary relief.
I do all of these. I never knew I had sciatica until I entered a Masters age group 100 meter race when I was 60. I trained and was ready for the race but the morning of the race, it was cold. I warmed up but then the organizers called all of us back to give us new bib numbers, then sent us back to run the race. They had the oldest runners running first, it was still cold, and we never had the chance to warm up again. I looked at the guy next to me, a monster at about 6'5 and 230 pounds. He said, "I shouldn't be doing this because my sciatica is killing me." I thought to myself, wow, I'm glad I've never had to deal with that. The gun went off and he took off like a rocket, winning the race in 13.8 seconds. I on the other hand, made it three steps out of the blocks when my sciatic nerve went BAM! That was the end of my return to sprinting. It took me months to calm it down because I didn't know what I was doing and thought at first that it was my hamstring, then my piriformis. All the stretching I did only made it worse but I finally found that these positions and movements gave me more relief than stretching and it finally settled down. But the problem never really went away. I retired and moved to Japan, where I started running after we had got settled in and my hips locked up in lots of pain. I tried all kinds of bodywork and physical training and nothing helped. Finally, last year on my 67th birthday, I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, which has been the best thing that has happened for me because it gave me a whole new and much more accurate understanding of my pain issues. I got on disease-modifying and immune-suppressing drugs and felt better almost immediately. My rheumatologist tells me the reason my spine has not yet completely fused is because of my active lifestyle as a mountain athlete and that I shouldn't stop doing what I love. I have made doing these exact exercises a disciplined morning routine every day. I gradually recovered some fitness over the ski season here (I am the most obsessed backcountry skier you will ever meet) and when the snow melted, I started running again. I am giving myself lots of recovery time and only recently have I been able to run every other day. I'm getting stronger, fitter, and I can even do some hill sprints and flat intervals for no more than 10-20% of my time exercising. My hamstrings still feel tight because of sciatica on both sides. But I can run pretty fast and can crush on skis for somebody my age with this disease. I know now not to try to stretch them but do the right mobilization exercises to get ready to run. This video is right on target and it reinforces that I am finally doing the right things for my sciatica. Thanks!
If you google, "should I stretch Hamstrings for sciatica" it comes up with "NO DONT" But if you look around a bit you may find valuable advice which works for you.
I’ve had sciatica issues almost my whole life but what I’m having now skips by lower back and straight to my leg. The thing that worries me is when I’m sitting I feel the pain but when I put my chin to my chest the pain in my leg really cranks up. Is this something else?
Depends on the cause of the sciatica! If it is a disc bulge these techniques should help. You might consider watching this video as well: th-cam.com/video/l5dCvfbnqqA/w-d-xo.html
What if I do all these stretches for my sciatica, but my hamstring/glutes/piriformis just feels so tight it cause the pain. All throughout the leg to the heels? Could this be entrapment or an adhesion of the nerve?
