I saw the murder as a mercy killing, he grew fond of the nice lady, but his obsession constantly consumes him. The nice lady constantly pleads him to realise his delusions but he just can't, and understands the pain the nice lady will go through, understanding she doesn't want to be alone. And so he does what he does, perhaps out of incredibly sick version of empathy. He had someone he cared about and cared about him but he couldn't let go of obsession.

Yeah. That was my read. It's truly a shame that Eric is so obsessed with a woman that hates him because his flashback and his brief collaboration with Rick show that he has the potential to be more than just a monster.

I don’t know if I consider Eric to be completely without empathy. He just has a very warped and selfish logic. He didn’t just kill the old woman just because but because he felt it was a mercy compared to leaving her lonely and miserable. That doesn’t make it right, but it’s a bit more than Eric likes to kill.

I kind of disagree because he kills those pilots for literally no reason, and he's willing to kill basically anyone without any reason; the students at the college, for instance. He's basically 100% focused on what he wants all the time, and typically empathy requires you to be able to think about being in someone else's shoes for a hot minute. That's not something he seems even capable of doing as a character. Like I get how people see it as you're saying, but I don't think it's quite that deep to him. I'm not sure he really values life at all or truly understands the deeper parts of it, there's been many moments where despite having a very advanced vocabulary he's been shown to be rather simpleminded and focused only on hedonism / self gain; his intro with the girls on the boat, etc. I read it as him being a very specific kind of man who can't see the world or anyone's value outside of his own.

It's a very abelist line of thinking but one that's quite common. "I would be miserable if I had to live with that disability" somehow becomes them projecting their own hypathetical misery onto the person, convincing themselves it's a mercy to kill them. The ultimate irony being, she wasn't miserable because she was blind, she seemed so at peace with it. She was lonely because she had no family. He can't cure blindness. he could have kept her company. But my mans is so in his own head he couldn't even see that as an option. had to get back to his "bride".

My theory is that it is a very elaborate set up, Circe is trying to make the Vision come true, but in order for it to come true, the creature commandos specifically have to try to, and FAIL to assasinate the Princess. So she has a reason to be angry at the USA and attack.
Circe wasn't actually going to kill the princess herself, it was a setup and she allowed herself to get taken in, in order to set all of this in motion.

I think there’s a much simpler explanation for Circe: the vision is true, but the part we (and Circe) don’t see is that it’s the Creature Commandos trying to kill the princess that causes the vision to come to pass. McPherson told Waller that clairvoyants don’t choose what moments of the future they see - I’m willing to take this as truth. So what that could mean is that this vision only comes true if the Commados try to kill the princess, since it shows Waller once again choosing to assume the worst of people leading to the worst possible outcome

I like this theory, and I've seen it floating around a little, but I think we're forgetting that Clayface is an actor by profession.
I think it more likely is that he was brought on specifically to convince Waller to kill the princess, and after that was basically allowed to do whatever he wants.
And that would also explain his behavior in the college, since he basically has a new lease on life, away from Gotham and Batman.

I do have my doubts with Eric in Creature Commandos... but while I do think his murder of the old woman was awful on the surface... something he said before the flashback ever happened really stuck out to me...
He was looking at all the cats and leashes, saying how "odd" they seem and called it an 'augery' or "bad omen", and that he knows these things because he once "stayed with an old gypsy that dabbled in the occult". And I could be overthinking this... but maybe there was more to the old woman than we see?
Also like... I don't really feel any pity for Dr. Frankenstine. He literally was hooking up with the Bride when he's married with kids and the Bride isn't even mentally mature to understand much of what he's doing. She may as well be mentally about 7 or 8 years old by the time the Doctor does... that, with her. He acted like a father to her, but never Eric, and then just has sex with her when he's already got a wife... I wonder if he did it to spite Eric or had bad intentions with both of them we don't know about yet.
Like something is really fishy here and I am beginning to wonder if there could be more about Eric they aren't showing us just yet.

    • @IronShaman81
      @IronShaman81 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

While I really like your theory, I personally saw his comment about the old woman dealing with the 'occult' as more evidence of his quasi-delusional 'fantasy' outlook on life...we hear what we says, but in the flashback she was just a lonely old romani woman living in the woods. While there definitely could be more to that, I think it was likely just another case of Eric being...Eric. For example, he always talks about 'his' Bride and how she's 'playing hard to get', etc but the reality is she hates him, has always been freaked out by him, and just wants him to leave her alone. He was convinced the Bride had a thing for Flagg, but the two had barely interacted with one another. He murdered the pilots for 'judging him' for being unable to grow facial hair, when it was clearly all in his head. Over and over, the show demonstrates to us how unstable Eric is...not only does he constantly jump to wild conclusions, but he also exaggerates everything in his own mind to make them more interesting; he romantacizes things he likes, while demonizing things that annoy or displease him. I think they definitely had borderline personality disorder in mind when they wrote him. All that said, I find your observations are really interesting and you very well could be onto something...these are just my own observations on things.
I'm also totally with you on Dr. Frankenstein. While he was not behaving inconsistantly for the standards of his time, by our standards he's a total creep and a predator. I feel like at some point this is gonna come up again.

I just want to give him a bit more time to see where it goes at least before finally just saying "yeah he's a completely irredeemable asshole".
The thing with the cats on leashes was just so oddly highlighted by the narrative so... I think there is at least some chance of Eric being correct on that point.

I think Frankenstein is very much meant to foil the commandos, we've been seeing their backstories and how despite appearances they aren't really monsters. Frankenstein meanwhile seems to initially have a sympathetic backstory here, but then we find that his own obsession, his own sick self-obsessed world view makes him a monster through and through. He cannot be taught, he will not grow. He has wandered for centuries and nothing about him as changed, age is no excuse any more. His upbringing is no excuse, he's had good people in his life, opportunities to begin anew, but he cannot let go of his possessive nature over the Bride.

My (convoluted) theory is that Grodd is playing Circe. He wants the princess dead for one reason or another (maybe to cause an international incident, maybe to cause a smaller political shift to his advantage) and put the vision into Circe's head with his mind powers.
When Circe got captured, he figured she'd try and warn people about the vision, and hired Clayface to replace the professor to ensure that people would believe her (Clayface is now just hanging out as the professor just in case, but isn't giving as much of a shit about keeping his cover).

I’m of the opinion that everything Circe is doing is to make sure that vision comes to pass. She wants Rostovic to turn against and destroy the US, along with Wonder Woman and other US-based superheroes, so that she is free to conquer Paradise Island as she wants to. I think Clayface was someone she hired to sell her manipulated vision to Waller, and I think Grodd may already be in Pokolistan taking advantage of the Princess’s desire for rapid progress to advancer her country, and helping them upgrade their military capabilities (those purple blasters the amethyst knights use) to make Pokolistan powerful enough to destroy the US.

I think the comics explained it by saying that the younger version of Flagg was actually a clone of the original and wasn't "Junior" at all.

    Gunn makes an unusual decision.
    1. Eric believed the old lady because the entire reason Eric was here was because the old lady told him he had found the bride.
    2. Why Did Gunn kill Rick Flag? Despite his upcoming role in the new Superman film.
    3. "So you are telling me Clayface killed a Gotham professor lived in her home, drank beer, played Mortal Kombat, and fed her cat. All the while, impersonate the professor for who knows how long and continue to work at her job, reassuring her parents that she is still alive, all the while the government has not kept tabs on this dangerous individual, and clay face bumbling in a government run prison making shit that could result in WW3.

Preface to this claim: I have not watched any of Creature Commandos, I don't have Max, I have only consumed the show through this series and like, 2 other videos, but my immediate hare-brained theory is that whoever is behind this, the goal is to cause one of two things to happen:
    1. The Creature Commandos are supposed to attack the Princess, motivating her to enact the vision that Circe has revealed.
    or
    2. The Creature Commandos are meant to foil a separate attack, probably made by the United States, against the Princess, in order to prevent the attack.
Because it is impossible that they didn't kill Rick Flagg Sr here in order to have someone impersonate him later as part of a FALSE FLAG operation.

Waller knew flag was doing it with the Princess & refused to kill her, and did nothing to stop him leaving to ... warn the princess. So if she was doing her job the CC would have killed the Princess, and we know Waller is not a villain just a dick.
Circe was only hiding the reason for attacking the Bride. And it's like to do with the purple gem she has, and likewise the Princess.
The laugh in the vision sounds like Granny Goodness who is a brilliant military commander & can make advanced weapons.
