The waitress spoke to me and I just went blank because I had no idea what was said. 😭 She very patiently helped me understand and spoke casually. I felt so bad, because her boss seemed to be upset that she spoke to me casually. 😱
When Japanese customers came to our office, I couldn’t speak keigo but normal masu-form: they were super polite, didn’t point it out or looked disappointed and liked how I spoke Japanese, so lovely of them 🥰🥰🥰
It's more of a bonus if you use keigo and shows an even higher status of respect and humility. The same can occur in English- normal polite to very polite (Applebees waiter vs Ritz carlton waiter lol)

Second, this video REALLY helped to make more sense out of the various levels of polite speech, the explanation of the different verbs was particularly informative. In trying to learn Japanese, it’s been confusing hearing so many ways to express the same thing. That restaurant ordering dialogue breakdown was fantastic, I've never fully understood everything they say back to me when I order things.

From what I understand, generally, O comes before Japanese native words, and Go is before chinese derived words
