10cc had some other hits in America. "The Things We Do For Love" is probably their 2nd biggest US hit followed by "The Wall Street Shuffle" "Dreadlock Holiday" and "Life Is A Minestrone" They weren't really a "rock band" as their music spanned several genres.
Fun Fact: This song incorporated the backing of a large wordless choir, which in reality was the group's voices. It was painstakingly built up from chord loops and multi tracks: some 256 vocal dubs were required to complete the lush harmonies behind Eric Stewart's vocal. - This Song Was In The Opening Scene For The Movie “Guardians Of The Galaxy” And This Song Was In The Video Game “ Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories”
One of my all time favourites. He's in love all right. If you check out "Dreadlock Holiday" which has a reggae vibe you wouldn't believe it was the same band they were that versatile. And I do like cricket...Another 70s UK gem we know you will love is "Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads which will have you jamming and laughing at the same time.
Stewart came up with the idea for the song after his wife, to whom he had been married for eight years at that point, asked him why he did not say "I love you" more often to her. Stewart said, "I had this crazy idea in my mind that repeating those words would somehow degrade the meaning, so I told her, 'Well, if I say every day "I love you, darling, I love you, blah, blah, blah", it's not gonna mean anything eventually'. That statement led me to try to figure out another way of saying it, and the result was that I chose to say 'I'm not in love with you', while subtly giving all the reasons throughout the song why I could never let go of this relationship.
This song is from their 1975 album called ' The Original Soundtrack ' . They are known as Art Rock . A fine example of that genre would be the track called Une Nuit ( One night in Paris) which is brilliant ! The song I'm not in Love when released got to no1 in the UK and was no2 on the US Billboard 100
10cc were a fantastic band.. Art for arts sake...dreadlock holiday...I.m mandy fly me.. things you do for love..etc etc Come on guys...America misses loads of our brilliant bands...
Huge hit in America-I'm Not In Love (from 1975) was their breakthrough hit due to being ahead of its time-nothing like it on the radio-stood out from disco that was starting to be popular.
The “ooos” and “aahh”s were recorded and LITERALLY looped on tape. Played and phased in and out at the mixing table, as though they were instruments. Pretty cool.
Maybe not as impressive in this day and age of digital manipulation but when you stop to think of the technology that was available to 10cc at the time of recording you begin to realise what a stunning production achievement this song was.
@@odochartaighofodonegal9815 Not quite. LOL Duct tape originated in 1943 when Vesta Stoudt, a World War II munitions plant worker, suggested the idea to President Franklin D. Roosevelt
For at least ten years that song was voted the UK's favourite song, it seemed the ultimate classic and then it just seemed to disappear from the radio. They were also Neil Sedaka's band when he had a comeback in the 70's. If you've not heard of Neil Sedaka listen to "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" the slow version, it's a beautiful Jazz/Blues love song.
I listened to these guys a lot in the 70s. I'm still listening. You must listen to Dreadlock Holiday, which is based on a true holiday! Glad you found this gem.
Erik Stewart sang the lead on this one, fellas. He also sings lead on " The Things We Do For Love". I think both of you would really like the reggae sound of "Dreadlock Holiday". These guys have a great catalogue that I feel has been largely under-appreciated. Peace.
The female saying "big boys don't cry" is the receptionist for the studio. They asked her to come into the studio and repeat the line. She didn't know she was in the song until she heard it on the radio.
My mum and sister are going to see these next week. I now wish I was going with them. This is the kind of music i was brought up on. You can't not like it. Smokey is 100% right about the song he is defo in love and still with her now!! I've always liked it.
This is one of those songs you want to listen to with your eyes closed and headphones on as to concentrate on the awesome airy music going on inside your head!
This song led to these songs 🎵 Billy Joel sings Just the Way You Are, 1977; Foreigner performs Waiting for a Girl Like You, 1981; The Cars perform Drive 🚗, 1984, which is 40 years ago 🎂. On the last 2 songs. Waiting for a Girl Like You waa produced by Mick Jones and Mutt Lange. Drive 🚗 was produced by The Cars and Mutt Lange. You will hear 👂 ambient backgrounds in ballads written and/or co-produced or produced by Lange. Such songs are performed by his clients Bryan Adams, Michael Bolton, The Corrs, Huey Lewis, Nickelback, Britney Spears and Shania Twain.
This was one of my favourite bands in the seventies. Lots of witty lyrics and musically sonic masterpieces. If you can, check out the "making of" video about this song.
The band with quirky humour in many of their songs, "Rubber Bullets", "Hospital Song", "Dean and I".... Lol Creme and Kevin Godley moved on to form a music video production company. E.g Duran Duran's video for "Girls On Film". They were big in Europe.

Smokey- oh he's lyin!😅😅 A 70s baby maker for sure LOL great reaction, great song of my childhood that I had forgotten about thanks again for some killer memories you guys✌🖤😎🤘
The seventies is right! This is a song of being in denial…and probably their biggest hit in the US. That voicy background sound was made by the lead singer taking the recorded voice of each band member and overlaying it 16 times!
Cincinnatus was a powerful ancient Roman general who became a wise and just political leader. 10cc was big in the 1970s. This was from their early era - the band later split with two members (Stewart and Gouldman) continuing with a slightly funkier sound and the other two (Godley and Creme) going on to make more experimental music and become leading rock video makers. The singer is Eric Stewart, and he is in deep denial! This was made before the era of samplers and was revolutionary when it came out. There are videos out there on the painstaking lengths they went to to make this. Try their song "The Things We Do For Love".
The girls voice on the original studio make was a last min rush due to no one being available they asked one of the studio employes from the office to step in and immortalised her words on a world wide megga hit, ❤️
You MUST Wiki how this song was recorded. They recorded the “ahh’s” from each band member singing each note of the chromatic scale and then used the notes to create chords. Gets crazy
This was pretty big in the seventies and early eighties. It’s just that the taste in music has changed and it doesn’t get as much air play. It still gets some you’ll have to find an oldies station or keep an ear out in stores for it over intercoms.
Music is one of lifes pleasures that can be overly consumed and be good for you. I respect your versatile love of music! There is so much great music out there to be explored. I feel bad for people who close themself off to only 1 or 2 genres.

10CC were one of the few British bands worth listening to in the pre-punk period of the mid 1970s. I saw them twice and their live performances were every bit as good as their records. Fundamentally, they were four equally-gifted artists who had found each other and created some memorable music together. I was sorry when the original band split.
_one of the few British bands worth listening to in the pre-punk period of the mid 1970s_ "One of the Few"? Lucius Cincinnatus was a Roman general who was a dictator for 16 days, won a battle, resigned as dictator and became a farmer.
The studio work on this was astounding
The "Big Boys don't cry" segment was actually the office secretary speaking
He was trying to convince himself that he wasn’t in love when he really is. This is such a good song.
