Thank you for your perseverance. When I recommended it I knew that you would love it. It has been covered well by others including The Dramatics, Hall & Oates, Amy Winehouse, Michael Buble and others. Billy's original version is the Gold Standard. Not the Hall & Oates cover. Got more to recommend in the future.
This is why the 70's has the best music. We had everything, rock, r&b, soul, disco, soft rock, ballads, and everything funky. It's great to see you guys enjoying it.
I remember the first time I heard this. I was very young but I stopped in my tracks. I had never heard anything like this. It always takes me to another place. A true masterpiece. Thank you guys for doing this one.
Considering that this song is about two people cheating on their obligations to others it was a huge hit, everyone knew all the words, when he sings the Me and Mrs Jones parts I still get chills, still move to the music and I'm 66yrs old ❤❤❤❤
Waaaay back in the day, I had "a thing goin' on" with someone I worked with. We would meet at our secret places, and there was a lovely feeling of walking in and looking for that one person who was going to be there only for you. It was not a thing that broke up anyone's home, it was just something special that was only meant to happen for a moment in time. This song brings it all back to this 71-yr-old. Thanks, guys.
You guys CRACK UP my husband and myself 😂 we enjoy your reviews tremendously. We don’t ask for anything, but we do follow you. Keep up the great work ❣️ Love your STANK FACES💘💘💘
Little did we know how much great music we had on the radio in our teen years! So much awesome music no matter what station you listened to. Glad to see you guys loving it as much as we did.
I got to see Billy Paul in 1972 , I was in the house band at a club in Berkeley, California. I was working nights and I had my supervisor give me a ride to pickup my Guitar amplifier at the New Ruthies Inn club So we walk in to get my amplifier and Mr. Paul was on stage , a minute later the band started playing " Me and Mrs. Jones " That made me look good in front of my supervisor, What a great night.
Nick, you are giving me the "Me & Mrs. Jones" face! I have never met a listening soul who already knows this song or is new to - who has ever NOT thought it FIRE! Incredibly original, bold for its time and the production is beautiful! Thanks for making me smile and put on a "Me & Mrs. Jones" face.
This song brings me backs to the lazy hazy days of summer in the early 70’s. Coming home from school and my mom had the radio playing while getting supper ready… so nostalgic, makes me yearn for those days again.
You guys…it’s because of fantastic reactions like this that I’m eternally grateful that you jumped into my algorithm a few years back. I remember subscribing immediately! 🔥
Philly International sound at its finest. Beautiful memories from childhood, when I had no clue what the song was about. It's right up there with Love Won't Let Me Wait by Major Lance. Billy Paul was a jazz singer and this was his most successful record hands down. Gamble & Huff did the same type of thing with Lou Rawls, who also had a jazz beginning. The same quality and caliber of music is found in many of the label's artists from the period - Stylistics, O'Jays, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Spinners, Delfonics, Blue Magic and even the Intruders. Not sure if you've already covered some of these groups but they certainly should be on your radar.
Oh my dear sweet Lord.....this song is just a warm hug to your soul. Nick you are so right to just tip back your head ,close your eyes , and feel this song right down to your toes.....❤🎉😮😮😮
Your backdrop of a city at night goes perfectly with this song .... the only thing missing was for a couple of martinis to be on the set as well. Always loved this song ❤
Geez...I was 12 yrs old when this fabulous Billy Paul was released and loved it then. 52 yrs later..it still hits that music loving cord in me. Thanks Nick and Ryan for a beautiful reaction as always...🎤✌️🇨🇦
This was my era and I hated that they didn't have more hits. Back in the 70s I was a teenager and I swooned to this song, not caring that it was about cheating. Now as an "older" adult, I still can't help that jazzy soulful sound and voice of Billy Paul.
1972 wow.... I had just gotten out of high school and this song was ruling the airways.. I recall how deeply impacted I was by its truth. And it still does the same thing today. Wish you all could have been there.
I am SO glad that you guys got to discover this incredible song that I first heard all the way back in 1972 when I was 5 years old. This song is smoothness personified. Billy Paul's voice tells the story every bit as much as the words do. An absolute legendary classic, this is. Unfortunately, Billy Paul ended up being a one-hit wonder (but what a wonder it is), as the very next single proved to be way too controversial for radio, which just couldn't take the frankness of a Black man speaking his mind in an unfiltered fashion on the civil and social woes of society. Billy Paul was ahead of his time in many ways. RIP. 🌹 For some more Philly Soul, DEFINITELY do the ORIGINAL VERSION of "If You Don't Know Me By Now" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (featuring the late, great Teddy Pendergrass on lead vocals).
This is one of the best reactions I’ve seen. It’s so much different when you just listen to the music and feel it, instead of watching a video like you’re watching a show with music in the background. Enjoyed this. ❤
This song blared constantly through the halls of my Basic Training Company in November and December of 1972. It wasn't the type of music I would choose to listen to back then. I quickly came to love this song, and still do today. The lyrics keep me from singing it, but the melody, music, and Billy Paul's rendition are amazing. It helped me survive Basic. So did "If You Don't Know Me By Now".
I was so ready for this when you were building it up at the beginning, BEFORE he opened his mouth. I was so ready. Yes, those were the best of times and the best of music.
❤Philly boy with a great song. Love him a nd his smooth ways. I will also say that the Daryl Hall & John Oates live version is amazing.....they are also Philly boys and LOVED this song.
Thanks for reminding us what we had growing up. In fact, I've got to say that there are times when you guys make me realize that we really had good musicians, vocalists, and producers.
I was in ninth grade back when this song was out. I recall P.E. class on gym court and waiting for Coach to join us. When then something set us off and the twenty or thirty of us guys in or gym shorts and shirt started singing belting out loud the chorus to this song. Little did I know 10 years later I would have my own “Mrs. Jones” and the kicker is that was actually her name.
The Gamble-Huff "Sound of Philadelphia" musical empire, along with the Philly soul sounds of Thom Bell and Linda Creed, changed and transformed the soul / R&B and pop music world in the '70s. Billy Paul passed away in 2016.

I used to sing this to my sisters many years ago😂
I remember it though, so it must have been showing for a bit and then removed.
Please do more one hit wonders. There are so many great ones.
@@richg0404 Already started my list. Thank you.
This is why the 70's has the best music. We had everything, rock, r&b, soul, disco, soft rock, ballads, and everything funky. It's great to see you guys enjoying it.
Yup but this was the same decade where rockers had Disco Demolition Night @ Comiskey Park. Those idiots weren’t alone. Not by a long shot. 🤘🏽
Definitely couldn't agree more...🎤👍
70s definitely had the best R&B, soft (yacht) rock...
Don`t forget punk rock! The latter half of the 1970s was a strange brew of rock, punk, disco, bubblegum....it was the greatest time
Even the country music of the '70s was near excellent.
I'm 62, and I can proudly say, I had this 45!
How far music has fallen. Hard to believe nobody can write and perform a song like this anymore but here we are. Good reaction guys.
Agreed..🎤👍
Amen to that.
👍
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes' "If You Don't Know Me By Now" is another Philly Soul classic.
ABSOLUTELY 💯
with Mr. Teddy Pendergrass on lead vocals!!
Simply Red does a great cover of this classic.
The love I lost !
@bobthebear1246 forgot about that masterpiece, thanks for reminding me
My mom's maiden name is Jones. My dad would sing this song to her all the time. I miss seeing him do it. RIP daddy.
Whoever did the musical arrangement on this is a master.
Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff - producers
Joe Tarsia - engineering
Bobby Martin was the arranger. I had never heard of him until now.
YES!🥰
This song is extremely beautiful. It makes me cry every time.
No school like the old school 🌟
This is why us old guys walk around the way we do... we've made love to these amazing songs!
Smoothe..........
Those were the days. Was fantastic then and still amazing in 2024! Best music ever!!!!❤❤❤
Show and Tell..Al Wilson 1973
They would love it
I TOTALLY AGREE❤
Such a great song!
Oh wow, I can hear it in my head now - great suggestion!
The opening of that song is like stepping into a time machine
My Auntie loved this song her last name wass Jones!! At parties everyone would sing Me and

A song for the "Makin' sweet, sweeeeeet looooooove" to, playlist, fer sure!
I remember the first time I heard this. I was very young but I stopped in my tracks. I had never heard anything like this. It always takes me to another place. A true masterpiece. Thank you guys for doing this one.

STILL get chills from this one, Fellas!! SO, SO GOOD!!! ENJOY!!!

Billypaul extremely underrated! Gorgeous sound!
Tell me there wasn't a whole lot of sexiness goin on in the 70's.
One of the best songs ever. ❤😊
I feel sorry for the kids now. Music is horrible. Can't believe Taylor Swift is all the rage!!!!!
Hall and Oates have a very good interpretation of this song.
Oh lordie! A blast from the past!!! Naughty 😂
It's the best !
😆😆
You guys CRACK UP my husband and myself 😂
we enjoy your reviews tremendously. We don’t ask for anything, but we do follow you.
Keep up the great work ❣️
Love your STANK FACES💘💘💘
An all time classic. Glad you guys appreciate it.
So original. So organic. There’s just no music like this anymore
Little did we know how much great music we had on the radio in our teen years! So much awesome music no matter what station you listened to. Glad to see you guys loving it as much as we did.
Definitely in agreement being from the 60s myself...👍
Billy Paul had more soul in his fingertips than 7:24 all of today’s so-called soulful singers combined

Finally ❤😂🎉😂❤❤😂😢😮😅😊welcome to the 70's !!!!!!!!
I grew up in the 60's and 70's and there was so much good music we often took it for granted. But we were paying attention!!!
Always a favorite song of mine .
A great song from the 70s which were the best!!
I was 15 when this was released. Couldn't play it enough. Between his voice and the instruments, it was perfect.
We Boomers knew how to make good music.
I saw Billy Paul back in the 70’s in a Philly club somewhere, don’t remember the name…he had a lit cigarette in his mouth the WHOLE time.
Classic, sexy, soulful, unforgettable, brilliant. ❤
Lou Rawls, you're gonna
Miss my loving.
That song is "You'll Never Find'
This song brings me backs to the lazy hazy days of summer in the early 70’s. Coming home from school and my mom had the radio playing while getting supper ready… so nostalgic, makes me yearn for those days again.
Such a cool soulful song. Glad you finally hit it. 🥰
A great reaction to an amazing song!
You guys…it’s because of fantastic reactions like this that I’m eternally grateful that you jumped into my algorithm a few years back. I remember subscribing immediately! 🔥
My playlist has this, which is naturally followed by "Kiss and Say Goodbye" by The Manhattans.
Yes!! Two of my favorites
Also, "Love Won't Let me Wait" - so sexy!!!
Mine too. Also includes "Sad Eyes' by Robert John.
Lounges. Lounges with booths for miles. Smoked glass light fixtures, Miller High Life neon signs, and two ashtrays for every table.
I knew you guys would love this one.

One of the All time greats.
Soulful, jazzy & smooth!
That is why music is so good, it takes you away and can bring people together.
I was a teenager when this came out and I’ve loved it ever since, his voice is so beautiful not to mention the music 🥰🥰🥰
Oh my dear sweet Lord.....this song is just a warm hug to your soul. Nick you are so right to just tip back your head ,close your eyes , and feel this song right down to your toes.....❤🎉😮😮😮
Your facial reactions were absolutely perfection! You truly portray that "groove feeling".
Super reaction to magnificent music!! 👍👍👏👏🎉🎉😊
Your backdrop of a city at night goes perfectly with this song .... the only thing missing was for a couple of martinis to be on the set as well. Always loved this song ❤
Reminds me how much I loved your One Hit Wonder Marathon. 💜
So happy i was in my young like with this music
We were sooo free back then
The sounds of Philadelphia was so smooth...love it so much

Same here girl...I was 16, but had 2 older sisters thank goodness...great music
@@paulineandrushuk8923 That's good you had older sisters to teach you. 😁
This is one of my go to songs at kareoke...I'm a 62 year old woman but I think i may have confused someone or two...lol
In December of '72 me & my "Mrs Jones" decided to spend the rest of our lives together! What a time, what a life. Thank you, Billy Paul!
You see, the are one hit "wonders" and then there are one hit "classics"............like this one :)
One of my all-time favorite songs. Even after nearly 52 years I never get tired of it.
Thanks guys.
Time to hit some more mid-century soul and R&B! You are WAY overdue for Earth, Wind and Fire and the incomparable Stevie Wonder, among others.
I love this song so much!!!! You should have seen him sing this on Soul Train back in day....WOW
'72, 18 and grown! What a time! What a life!
1972 wow.... I had just gotten out of high school and this song was ruling the airways.. I recall how deeply impacted I was by its truth. And it still does the same thing today. Wish you all could have been there.
Class of 1973 here...and I lived in the Philadelphia area. Heard this all the time.
Love this song 🎵 ❤️
I shall never forget listening to this fabulous song.
LOVEEEEE this Song!🥰
LOVE Billy Paul
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is on my playlist, one of my favorites of all time
First one I put on mine. 👏👏👏

Hall and Oates did a version of this tune and did Billy Paul justice in their cover with Daryl Hall.
This song was soooooo popular back in the day … great tune
This song is fire 🔥
What a lush backing track. Great lead vocal. Great song.
One of my all time favorites!!!

Wonderful, wonderful song. Sang along to this in the early 70s when my voice had just broken. Sublime.
I loved this song so much!
Sophisticated, complex, jazzy, smooth, soulful and touching lyrics - such a great song.
This song is bad ass!
Love this song.

The Musical Arrangement is Beyond AMAZING!
I LOVE IT!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was so ready for this when you were building it up at the beginning, BEFORE he opened his mouth. I was so ready. Yes, those were the best of times and the best of music.
The production was amazing. This was 1972....how come we can't make something this good in 2024?
Because today’s writers and producers are lazy..the tap on machines..they make beats not music
❤Philly boy with a great song. Love him a nd his smooth ways. I will also say that the Daryl Hall & John Oates live version is amazing.....they are also Philly boys and LOVED this song.
Love your reaction! This makes me giddy with joy too listening for the 1,000th time
Love, love, love this song. One of my all time favourites. So glad you finally got to it. Looks like it affected you like it does me every time.
Love your insight… old souls for soulful music.

"Hot Chocolate - Emma"
more horns and strings:

Thanks for reminding us what we had growing up. In fact, I've got to say that there are times when you guys make me realize that we really had good musicians, vocalists, and producers.
