Interesting story about the line in the song "Big boys don't cry...big boys don't cry...". That line was originally sung/spoken by the lead singer (a man), but as they gathered around the mixing table at the studio to discuss how it just somehow didn't sound right, the receptionist of the studio stuck her head in the door to tell them they had a phonecall. Lightbulbs instantly went off. It had to be HER voice that spoke that line. And so it was. She nailed it and she was given a credit on the album.
Again, you played the edit version. The unedited version lasted 6 minutes. They were bigger in the UK then in the U.S. "Things We Do For Love" was their only other Top 10 hit in the states. I always loved the sound of this record, especially with headphones on!
Creme is pronounced like cream. This is one of their biggest songs, but they do have a pretty interesting catalog. If you want your mind blown, please watch the making of this song, which you can find here on TH-cam. It’ll make you appreciate the song way more. It’s insane they were able to create this in 1975. One of my all time favorite songs ever.
The Harry Styles band😂😂 I love that so much. Please please react to some of his solo work. He is the biggest pop star in the planet at this time. His songs As It Was, Watermelon Sugar, his first solo song Sign Of The Times is an incredible video. Rest In Love beautiful Liam ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Godley and Creme also had a huge hit with Under Your Thumb. 10CC also released a song called Dreadlock Holiday which couldn’t be more different to I’m Not In Love.
@@davidgoodyear843I love it. But lots of others were mentioning it and I also prefer Under Your Thumb. It’s darker and weirder and I love that. Also Snack Attack!
Godley and Creme had a hit with a song "Cry". Check out Rubber Bullets, Wall Street Shuffle and Dreadlock Holiday. Consequences was a bizarre album, promoting the Gizmotron - a device they invented as a guitar effect. Some good stuff and some weird stuff.
This Song Was Recording of Extreme Genius For The Time The 4 Member Group Was Layer any Msny Times in All it Multiplied Their Vocals into 64 Separate Voices When Done to Get that Angelic like Sound
A buddy of mine invited me to go see 10CC during their 1978-1979 Bloody Tourists tour. Being considered a veteran for attending close to 1400 concerts since 1973, of course I said "Yes." I remember poking my friend in his ribs after the 4th or 5th song and simply stated, "This is the best band I have ever heard live." It was pure perfection in a live setting.
The backing vocal track is unique. They did dozens of overdubs of all members doing "ahh" for different notes. They then played back the continuous tape loop and used the mixing desk to fade the different notes in and out and to create the vocal effect for a "live" performance of the backing vocal track (live being playing the mixing desk to create music on the fly).
Another song you need to listen to is their 3 part rock opera in the vein of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody called Une Nuit In Paris - One Night In Paris . It was way way ahead of its time , and guarantee you have never heard anything like this !
Godfrey and Crème recorded the song “Cry.” Fun fact: this song became more popular recently than it was on its original release when released as part of the Guardians Of the Galaxy soundtrack. 10cc= 10 cubic centimeters. Of what we don’t know?
Sorry to hear you had a bad day today. I also received some unpleasant news today also. This song was a really big hit back in the seventies. It has also stood the test time very well. Hang in there. We enjoy your reactions.
Eric Stewart, the writer and singer of this song explained this about the song................. "At that time my wife and I had been married about eight years," Eric Stewart recalls, "and she asked me 'Why don't you say "I love you" more often?' I had this crazy idea in my mind that repeating those words would somehow degrade the meaning, so I told her 'Well, if I say every day "I love you, darling, I love you, blah, blah, blah," it's not gonna mean anything eventually.' That statement led me to try to figure out another way of saying it, and the result was that I chose to say 'I'm not in love with you,' while subtly giving all the reasons throughout the song why I could never let go of this relationship. Eric and his wife Gloria are still married after more than 50 years( but I don't think it'll last, "It's just a silly phase he's going through.") P.S. The girl who whispers " Big Boys Don't Cry." was their secretary in the recording studio and they realised that her voice was perfect for those spoken words.
OK, now hit the unedited version (6 min.). I was on a road trip in early June '75 with a friend - listening to FM radio as we chatted away - this came on, and we both shut up and listened intently. As soon as it ended we resumed the gab fest right where we left off. That was the spell this had, and still has, on the human psyche.
There is a video on YT that shows how they recoded the backing vocals , the constant "humming sound" you hear all through the song. It is pretty impressive how they did that without the technology there is now. Next 10cc song: Dreadlock Holiday.
Yes, that was always my understanding of where they got their name. I'm not sure where I first heard it but it was common knowledge bck in the 70s when they became popular
I've heard that background story regarding the origin of their band name for decades. I'm inclined to believe that's why they chose it. Ah, the seventies..
I had this album on cassette in the early 1980s. Loved and still love this song and many others of theirs. For a fun song and video, check out Dreadlock Holiday.
Because 10cc was effectively made up of two song writing duos (each with a very different approach to songwriting) their hits were very different from each other
cc stands for "cubic centimeters" YW The album that features this song is titled "The Original Soundtrack" and includes a song called "The Film of our Love." My favorite 10cc lyric is from another track from same album, "Life is a Minestrone" ...Minnie mouse has got it all sewn up, she gets more fanmail than the pope🤣 (This song reeelly takes me back!)
Coincidentally the album this song came from is called, The Original Soundtrack and, the album sleeve depicted a pen and ink illustration of a movie projector and film editing equipment. Indeed their name has been attributed to the average male ejaculate
Great song, but people are correct that you pick a shortened version of this song. I always enjoyed 10cc. Some days it’s just better to do nothing. At least you learned something which I feel is more important.
@@neilfox4626 An urban myth, unfortunately! Their manager, Jonathan King, had a dream in which he saw a huge billboard outside a venue that read "Tonight - The Biggest Band In The World - 10CC" and the name stayed. The other take is funny but untrue, sadly.
When this song came out, there was nothing like the music they created anywhere else. It was new and groundbreaking.
It was a technological marvel.

Right - even though I loved DREADLOCK HOLIDAY it failed to break the top 40 in US (#44).
Spoiler alert: he's actually in love.

Suggestion: Use headphones/ good ear plugs as many songs are layered & use the spatial separation, which you can get the full effect of without them.
If you like Steely Dan when they're at their grooviest and funky, you should listen to Time Out of Mind. Hope the rest of your day is better.
That was way too short. I miss the longer version. It's still great though. Thanks for reactions to great music that is 49 years old!

Dreadlock Holiday!!!
Dreadlocks Holiday is a good song.
They have quirky lyrics - especially early 10cc - their voices and instrumentation is crazy good.
The simplicity of creating a song where someone is trying to convince themselves that they are “not in love” when they clearly are. Been there.

Completely wrong. It refers to the average amount of sperm in a single ejaculation.

The stoichiometric air to fuel mixture is about 14.7 to 1 for cars.
