As a 30-year-old, I understand and accept that I'm not welcome on this channel HOWEVER I'd like to thank you for your highly educational content. I had no idea so many of my fav bands and artists blew up on tiktok. It was also interesting to realize I'm a looser-core greaser (not the good kind) hyperslop fan.
Weezer, for me, had the most confusing fanbase I ever seen. You had the Blue Album fans, and then the self-admirted proud Pinkerton fan, and the strange unironic nature of the rest of the discography. I never seen a single Weezer fan whose fo out and say "I love all of their albums" wirhout a sense of irony to it. Ever.
The final verdict: We are all cringe. I'm very separated from social media so I had no idea how cringe most of these fanbases are. I guess I found the small friend groups who are chill, and also introverts.
I went to a 100 Gecs concert with my girlfriend a few months back and my god it was the best worst crowd I've ever seen. The energy in the room was electric, but they were all so annoying at the same time.
I never hated Weezer until I was friends with this one kid that was OBSESSED with Weezer in high school. He had the shaggy hair, wore baggy shirts and jeans. He would constantly send me Weezer and Greenday songs, and after a while it got old. Despite everything, I hope he’s doing well now
As someone who loves both of those bands, yeah that would probably eventually get annoying. Especially if they were a dick rider who thought both of the bands could do no wrong, because both bands might have really high highs, but they also have some pretty damn low lows.
@greasonist how? Primus fans aren't really that pretentious or annoying. I love Korn and Tool but Tool definitely got some fuck head fans out there. Primus people are chill af and don't go around talking about how huge a Primus fan they are.. in fact Primus is still kinda Niche thankfully 😋

Nah it’s the Swifties they are straight up terrible and scary. They have more cultish devotion to Her than actual Religions have. They also sent death threats to a Pitchfork Reviewer for giving an Album of Hers a 8/10. Every Girl I’ve met who loves Her is extremely basic in some way or just a bit narcissistic. Her Music just come’s off as narcissistic to Me. Maybe it’s because I’m a Man and a bit Autistic. But I don’t like Songs that revolve around one person. Or to but it in perspective some, one sided relationships where nothing is really Her fault. If a Straight Male Singer pulled what’s She’s done they would be call an Entitled Narcissistic Woman Hater Immediately.
definitely, theyre crazy and think every song is different. its the same album and song every time. also wanna know whats crazier?! theyd rather wear diapers to her concert than take the time to go to the bathroom.
It really just comes down to listening to her music because it’s not just “dumb pop” people avidly avoid listening to her albums because of stories they hear of the cultish obsessive white girl fandom who listen to mediocre break up songs when really that’s a small fraction of her listeners as well as the kind of music she makes is a lot more nuanced then “just break up songs” if you give her a listen
almost all music revolves around one person, usually being the one writing it. also, most artists base their songs on relationships and break ups and love, so its not limited to her. i agree that the global image of the fanbase is bad, but theres more to the group and her than that meets the eye
@@vanian420 so real. i dont get how people still use the, "she makes the same song and people still listen to it" bs. They all provide a different experience, people just dont like her in fear of being a "basic pop fan". Gorillaz should have been on this list. As someone who is in the fanbase I know there are 2 types of fans: fans that think Gorillaz are some underground band they discovered and fans that shame the previous type of fan for only knowing 2 of their songs. They also dislike half the stuff that Gorillaz has put out for no reason.

As someone who is kinda starting to get into the band, the frerard stuff has always struck me as a little odd For me shipping real people in general is super weird but these are two straight guys with wives and kids... people are strange
I don't know anything about MCR but thats just fucking weird and toxic, imagine going off on someone because they don't know any band drama, like dude it's not my businesses I don't gaf, chronologically online. And the fanfics are crazy, like dude those are real people.
Oh my gosh yeah I’m a casual MCR fan and the shipping of real people in the fandom is so creepy 😭 same with other bands like Fall Out Boy, even though there the Peterick people aren’t quite as outspoken (at least in the communities I browse.) Like, leave these people alone! Unironically shipping real people is so creepy lel

Ghost fan here. You have to embrace the corniness. They were my favorite band at one point (now its aic). I like their new stuff even if id like them to go back to their older sounds. Tobias Forge has a lot of courage and just does what he wants. He gets bangers even if theres a few cringe songs. Ghost is absolutely cringe. Theyre also awesome and i love them. I get how theyre not for everyone and certain sides of the fandom annoys the hell out of me bc the fanbase used to be more chill before they blew up on tiktok. Im happy for the members and super hyped to see them next month, but i get it. When you just enjoy the music and not take it super seriously, its a fun time. They play dress up and the ghouls fight on stage. Theyre singing songs about spooky things like the devil (uh oh scary!) It was always gonna be a bit goofy. Its alright if others dont like it, but i see it as an assest over a flaw.
Yeah that threw me for a loop. They got robbed! Maybe I'm biased because i live in Boston, where we have Berklee College Of Music. You will see at least one Tool, Meshuggah or Dream Theater shirt there EVERY GOTDANG TIME
Tool fans are definitely worse and definitely more pretentiou. I never heard another fandom refer to the albums they like as "transcendent" or "sacred". I rather talk about music with a Korn fan than a Tool fan (and I love Tool)
I'm a fan of a good number of these bands/artists and I know lots of people who are also fans. I just wanna say that the stereotypical fan of any of these artists is insufferable for sure, I've witnessed a few. But there's also some chill people who are very unlike the stereotypical fans. Like two of my close friends. One loves metal, and bands like Megadeth and Deftones are his favorite. He has lots of friends because he's kind and laid back, and he doesn't get in your face about why his music is the best music and why your music is vastly inferior. The other guy is a huge fan of Imagine dragons and the strokes, he is the nicest guy you'll ever meet, absolutely selfless in just about anything he does, and he also doesn't try to shove his music opinions down your throat. Both of them are always open to hear new music that other people want them to listen to, and are understanding of how others might not enjoy their favorite bands. I just wish that more hard-core fans of these groups, and others not mentioned in this video were more like me and my friends. That sounds bad, what I mean is that I wish that good music didn't make certain people so insufferable.
As a honored representative of the 100 gecs community, we humbly and respectfully accept 2nd place in the absolute worst music fanbase ever. May Laura Les (hail to her name) and the Gecs be with you

I'm gonna be honest, I've met SO many Taylor Swift fans with cult like devotion to her, like this one dude at my high school who was so obsessed that he brought a cardboard cutout of her to school at least once a week, these two girls who only talk about her and wattpad when I go to my lab this semester (they sit across from me so I know for a fact that that is essentially all they talk about, not really exaggerating here), and though I never met him apparently my mom has a coworker that refuses to talk about anything else... Those are just the extreme examples. Her fanbase freaks me the fuck out, my personal split between the worst fanbase is between her and Weezer because I've met some insanely awful Weezer fans as well. The worst Taylor Swift fans I've met have been the worst because of their extreme obsession with her, and the worst Weezer fans I've met have been the worst because of the things they've done to other people. Taylor Swift has the worst fanbase culture, and Weezer has the worst individual fans imo. But at the end of the day it's all subjective and I just appreciate y'all for doing this video at all, it's an interesting concept!
As one of weezers biggest fans, i can agree. Ive been cast out of their fanbase twice, in two different decades and two different websites LOL. No matter where u go, theres a weezer fan being an a hole. Especially even worse now that so many zoomers flocked to them for some reason. Ben hogan, nikki enloe, max haas, albert louis, miles winchester, etc etc, all terrible people.
The Smiths fans vs. video game OSTs/military marches fans debate had me dying laughing, holy shit. I think your final decision on it was the right choice.
@@ricardoramos4514 If you’re interested, here’s my personal argument: If you ask someone what their favorite band/kind of music is, and they answer with video game OSTs/military marches, they have the capacity to either be an incredibly based video game-enjoying socialist, or a shitty ROTC kid who flirts with fascism. But if you ask someone that same question, and they immediately answer with The Smiths? A very specific genre of person comes to mind. The OST/military march fan base encompasses a larger range of people, which on average would produce people who are less outwardly toxic, but probably still at least a little cringe in some regards. In contrast, someone who regards themself as a die-hard Smiths fan has a higher chance of being the stereotypical ✨quirky✨ male manipulator guy, or at least someone who takes themself way too seriously. @@spoonermcgee I think the reason they put them as one category in this video is because the communities of video game nerds and war nerds have a tendency to overlap in a Venn diagram way. A third sphere I would add to that Venn diagram is neurodivergence, since those things are frequent special interests. I speak from experience as someone whose younger sibling is very much the video game OST + military marches fan, though fortunately he and his online friends are the based history nerd socialist kind and not the ROTC or 4chan kind.
@@spoonermcgee I think they just combined two different groups: OST fans and Military march fans. Just because they are similar in the sense that regardless of if the music is good or not, the music wasn’t made for the sake of making music, it was made for a video game or for the military. So fundamentally they are similarly niche genres

There’s no way the smiths is worse bruh please
@@ricardoramos4514 If you’re interested, here’s my personal argument:
If you ask someone what their favorite band/kind of music is, and they answer with video game OSTs/military marches, they have the capacity to either be an incredibly based video game-enjoying socialist, or a shitty ROTC kid who flirts with fascism. But if you ask someone that same question, and they immediately answer with The Smiths? A very specific genre of person comes to mind.
The OST/military march fan base encompasses a larger range of people, which on average would produce people who are less outwardly toxic, but probably still at least a little cringe in some regards.
0:41 As a Radiohead fan I can Confirm this! Girls when they see me: How to disappear completely
As someone who is a fan of a ton of these artists but also barely online at all I learned a lot today
i dont care what anyone says ive met more trans lesbians at a 100 gecs show than anywhere else in my life, being a trans lesbian its the best space ive ever been in.
That’s horrific, please tell real lesbians to stay away from those shows. Transbians are the worst
🏳️⚧️ I wanna do drugs with the autistic transbians at the 100 gecs show
Cringe
Your father must be so proud 💀
@@masonm2140 my father is very proud :) he loves my girlfriend and so does my step mom and my birth mom, he was super happy when i leveled your rural basement shack you absolute bumbling buffoon you fucking loser. my dad also attends socialist rally’s with me and plays shows with me. go outside of your cave and do something you goon
i personally think its kinda crazy that 100 gecs went that far, like i get it but 100 gecs fans are often times way more self aware than like half the fans on this list
we are so chill. it's honestly the least toxic fanbase I've ever been a part of. nobody takes things seriously, and we embrace the cringe.
@@human_plant yeah thats fax i just think they assume everyone is just an internet weirdo who doesn't shower or something i guess?
Not even joking 100 Gecs had the most tolerable smelling crowd I’ve been in in a long time and the opener was Machine Girl so that’s saying something. I think most 100 Gecs fans are like terminally online but overall very self aware and accepting queer people.
My friend is a 100 gecs fan and he just sometimes wont shut the f* k up about them. He acts as if he has some kind of highly sophisticated taste. I really hope the fan base isnt like that.
Lmao the cure vs smiths statement was too accurate 😂
if i was doing this i would put "nirvana fans" aka the people who wear the smiley merch everywhere but cant name any nirvana songs outside of smells like teen spirit and those really crazy nirvana fans who dont shut the fuck up about kurt kobain but still can only name like 4 nirvana songs
