- Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald and the Taoiseach were involved in yet another spat in the Dáil chamber this afternoon, after Leo Varadkar said McDonald was "cranky".
Replying to the Taoiseach, the Sinn Féin deputy leader said Varadkar was "facile" and "dismissive".
Harsh words have been exchanged between the pair in recent days, with the Taoiseach yesterday accusing McDonald of being scripted, and stating that she reminds him of Marine Le Pen.
It continued into Leaders’ Questions today, when he said Sinn Féin members were constantly interrupting him when he was speaking and again, stating that its deputy leader must spend a lot of time rehearsing her Dáil contributions jrnl.ie/3618929

Without pausing for even a second, Boris Johnson answered, “That would be me."
"Yes! Very good,” said the Queen.
Varadkar went back home, returned to the Dail and the very next day called for Simon Coveney to come and see him.
Coveney duly trotted in to the Dail. “Simon, answer this for me,’ said the Don. “Your mother and your father have a child. It's not your brother and it's not your sister. Who is it?”
"I'm not sure," said Simon. “Let me get back to you on that one."
Simon went panicking off to his advisers and asked everyone, but none of them could give him an answer.
The next night, as it happened, Simon ran in to Mary Lou McDonald in a restaurant. By now, desperate for an answer to give to his tyrannical boss, he approached her - much to her surprise.
“Mary Lou, I know we haven’t always seen eye to eye but I would really appreciate it if you could answer this riddle for me"
“Sure, Simon “Mary Lou said. “I’m not one to hold a grudge. What is it?”
“Thanks," said Simon,”It’s this. Your mother and father have a child and it's not your brother or your sister. Who is it?”
Mary Lou answered right back, “That's easy, it's me!"
Coveney smiled, “Thanks!"

I would not live in the South for all the tea in India and wouldn’t accept an ounce of Chinese tea as a gift. I recall standing in Dublin in 2005 and upon reviewing the state of affairs at the time, declared that I wouldn’t buy a property there for 1/2 the value and I see no reason to change my opinion.

Ideological clashes, personal grudges and political histories notwithstanding, a representative who cant put the needs of governing a country before their own childish spite and impulse to interrupt is disgraceful. Like a child asked to leave a classroom, is the leader of Sinn Fein. And fair play to the Ceann Comhairle for being assertive and civil.
