Dáil Row: 'I Am Speechless Listening To This Nonsense'

- A shouting match broke out in the Dáil last night as TDs debated branded hour contracts.
The motion, put forward by Sinn Féin, called for workers to have the right to request increased hours and employers to have an obligation to consider this request.
When Sinn Féin TD Louise O’Reilly, a long-time trade union activist, took to the floor of the Dáil, she launched a scathing attack on Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.
"I very rarely find myself in a situation where I am speechless. I am speechless this evening listening to the nonsense coming from both sides of this house."

And there are still 'employers' out there that arent even giving out ANY contract. Paying cash, deliberalty keeping it quiet, no paperwork so they can deliberatly exploit vulnerable workers who are desperate for work in rural Ireland anyway as far as i know. That speaking from experience.

I pro a contract accurately presenting employee hours, in my country the use this (where the hours are not clear) to avoid paying over time.

Where are all the other TDs?
Still Searching TDs are generally either in their office or working in their constituencies. Every office in the Dáil has a cheap TV that plays the debates into the office, so unless TDs are speaking or have a key role in an issue, they'll watch from their office as they work. Just because they're not seated doesn't mean they're not watching!
They should all be there though.... Sorry I'm American but it only seems fair that everyone should be there to listen and debate... Yes it may take you away from your states and perspective districts.. I've always argued about having representatives and senators going in to debate on the weekends when usual business hours for the rest of us are done. Let them spend 5 or 6 days in their districts and states, gather information and listen to local and any feedback. Then take it all back to the capital and make your decisions accordingly.

Zero hours contracts suit some people, not suitable for all I agree, but surely if you don't agree to work under a zero hours contract, why not go and work somewhere else? No offence intended and please feel free to educate me.
