Half an hour behind on your vids matey, gotta catch up. This is a great tool, I've seen a few versions of a similar idea. You should be taking this to the local markets and sell some of your carvings, made while you wait :-) 🍺🍺🍺
I looked at markets but a stall here is stupid money. I made this one like this as one on a bench would end up out side all winter. It would be no good after 3 years and I could only use it in good weather. Cheers
Its a very handy little tool. Faster than using a vice. Yeah was hectic for a wile here. And with the covid and me not being in the UK I can not go and see my Mother or help her..
@@SouthpawDavey I hadn't thought of that . So many people have been cut off from family with Covid. My aunt who will be 104 on April first hasn't seen her daughter who lives not to far away in the US for over a year now. The border bas been closed for a year.
I dont know if it would be harder if I knew it was just over the border. But it sucks all the same. We couldnt go last year so its been over a year almost two since we saw my mother. talk on the phone of course but we only get to go once a year as a family.
I have more than most a 20x20 foot cellar and a 16x32 foot garage but I have different areas dedicated to wood work metal work and crafts, I have so many tools , I'm always looking for smaller more space efficient ways of doing things, I'm going to build one of those today!
I used to sit for ages, in Turkey, watching people making wooden spoons. Well, they were next to the open-air bar I was in - seemed rude not to partake in a quick libation!! Have a great weekend Dave
Just about with us lol. Its handy for sure I feel the urge to make some spoons now. I will have to try and make a spoon knife. Its a good hobby vice quick to change the grip.
Thanks Brendan. It works very well and the wood would have gone on the fire so cheap and I like cheap lol. Would be a good project to make and show people how to make spoons or take to shows when the world gets back to normal.. Both Mums doing well now. Cheers
its handy as I dont need the full bench. I thought about a shaving horse but space is the problem it would end up outside all winter and rot out. I have tried the glacier lettuce seed twice now but they are not germinating... I have the second lot under the lights now so fingers crossed. If they fire I will send some. Sorry about that.
He's back!! Great to see you mate, good to hear that both the mother's are doing well now. Thank god you showed us what was happening under the vice with the 2 sticks as I was trying to work it out. It's a great bit of kit that. I'm giving you a thumbs up 👍 Cheers Adam
Much appreciated the girls are doing well. Not much to show though.. Thems magic sticks them are and its powered by witch craft... And when wood flies off this tool it only hits you in the face and not the nuts.. I am well pleased with how it turned out and it was only going to be fire wood. Cheers
tooth...What an awesome tool! So very cool! I love the physics of it (and slow flying objects LOL)! A piece of that wire could secure the both your hanging wire and your wood to the board for storage. The shavings could become a cool craft too... I once made a Christmas tree with the shavings glued to a base piece of wood with a foundation... spray painted in green of course.. turned out kinda rustic and rather pretty! My mom liked the gift anyway! I'm growing the same tomatoes this year! Enjoy! Love your..Rooster..Awesome carving! I adore the totem pole!! Sorry to hear about your mom and mom in law! Glad all is alright now! 🍀Happy St. Paddy's Day!🍀
Its a great and simple tool I was surprised at how well it holds. Always remember to keep hold of your stick lol... Like the Christmas tree idea. I am looking forward to see how the tomatoes do. The rooster carvings are fun the totem gave me an idea. Taking mum in law for a check up tomorrow.. Women's stuff..
I like simple and effective! Sometimes that makes the best tool! If you can't keep ahold of the stick, at least make sure there's eye protection! The Christmas tree was fun ... cold outside always brings on creative stirrings! It was cheap, simple, and fun, but turned out surprisingly beautiful! The curls and the wood added charm! Did the totem inspire thoughts of a chainsaw and a tree in the chicken run by any chance? That tree could become something quite different! The rooster has a a great tail! I like it! Good luck to mum in law... been there!! Cheers! 💖@@SouthpawDavey
I think the design of it is over a 1.000 years old and stood the test of time. Yeah it was going to be fire wood thats how cheap it was. I like cheap lol. Dont thin the girls would like the chainsaw. I wasnt thinking on that scale. But now you got me thinking... Got a few more v sticks to do some more chickens. ;-)
Used to be a tv show called The Woodwright's Shop. Only ever built with tools that were made by hand and never used a power tool. Cool show. That's what this tool made me think of! Cheap is cheerful! No, the girls would need relocation while you did it! LOL More chickens yes, that would be good! Looking to see if I have a photo of the tree.. if I do, I'll email it to you! 😊@@SouthpawDavey
Looks like half the photos got lost in the relocation. If I do find it, email will come from acs.exploringnature@gmail.com (in case it ends up in your spam folder) It's new since relocation too.@@SouthpawDavey
Hi Davey nice to see you back again and carving how is the fish stick going done anymore to that one, id love to have a go but me and sharp knives don't get on as val will vouch . Hope both mothers are well on the mend now. All best Bill and val
Cheers mate. The fish stick is behind me was looking at it the other day. Thw woo is rock hard so its a dremmel job so needs to be outside. I have 6 fish on it so far. Sharp knifes are safer than blunt ones. Taking the mum in law for a check up tomorrow she can talk a glass eye to sleep.. Just like my mum but in German lol. Cheers
Good to put a point on a stick lol. Wattling as in wattle fencing? Thats fun and looks great. Even better if you can grow your own material to use. Willow grows like mad if you have a spot for some. I am sure you will get the hang of it. Cheers Dave
Lol Ah whittling is also fun ;-) Look at Gene Messer and Doug Linker on youtube. Some good carving videos. Sharp tools are the key get or make a strop if you havent already. Linden/lime wood is the best to carve pine works but needs to be tight grained for best results. I will do a video on the chicken carving dead easy and the wood is free.
I was starting to worry about you. At least the runaway didn't hit you in the knackers. That's never fun. Talking of little men, I must do a guest appearance from Lil' Davey again. He's always a big hit. Good to hear things have bucked up for ya. My old mum is 88 now. She had to go into care. She's safe now, and actually MUCH happier. Anyway. See ya mate.
I am still alive :-).Nothing like a nut shot to ruin your day lol. The wife likes an appearance of little Davey too nut shot would also ruin that... My mom is 88 too she wont go into care. Its hard me being here. Can not do anything to help her. Cheers mate.
@@SouthpawDavey Yeah, it's a tough gig. Mine realised she wasn't coping by herself. That really surprised us because her old brain ain't functioning too well. Oh... and by the way, I meant lil' Davey as in the carving of yours that I have... lol
Oh that lil Dave lol Yeah I knew what you meant ;-) Will have to see what happens and how my mom feels but she has always said she wasn't going in a home.. Look forward to see your lil Dave again. Cheers
Hi Dave, That the first time I have heard or seen one of those vices, Take care.
Its a handy tool. Very old design but the oldies are the goodies eh.
Cheers mate
Great idea to have the dip for the spoon bowl. 😊

I appreciate the video. Thank you. Good information in there.
Would a couple of vertical cuts in the pegs give you a better grip Dave, very good idea. Wishing for a full recovery.
♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
Might work I have some leather I might put on.Grooves might might scar the work piece.

@@SouthpawDavey good idea.

I can sit and watch paint dry if there is a bar close by lol. Drinking a beer as offering to the gods is always good.

Nice one, I like the fact that it easily comes apart.
Yeah it helps for space and its fast to take it down or put it up.

Its a cool tool. over a 1.000 year old design and works just as good today.
Got some seeds in just not on the ball this year...

That's a tidy job and will probably make an appearanve in my workshop. Good to see you again and good to know the Mums are ok.
