I watched the last lecture when it first came out. It was so inspirational to me even then. As a very recently diagnosed stage 4 terminal cancer patient I hear what he’s saying totally differently today. Randy wouldn’t see 50, I won’t see my 60th birthday. He has helped so many ppl by giving so much of himself at the end.
I started crying at 2:24, I've been a Pausch fan from the begining, I can't imagine what his wife is going through right now. I have thought about her and the kids and have prayed for her. I know what its like to raise 3 babies alone, If anybody from the Pausch family sees this, please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers!
i always literally cry when I see his last words... there's always hope in his mind... courage... a very good example of a father, a teacher and most importantly, a legacy maker!!!
His raw truth and honesty is inspiring. He was truly a special person with so much bravery. I read his blog up until he couldn’t write anymore, when the cancer completely took over his body and it’s heartbreaking. I listen to “Time Passages” by Al Stewart and it reminds me of him. I come back to his lectures to remind myself to spend whatever time I have on this earth, wisely. Thank you Randy Pausch for giving me this gift, to love and cherish my loved ones and to be bold, courageous and to live my truth. You’ve blessed my life and I’m so grateful for your legacy 💛
RIP Randy. You have inspired people all over the world. And I certainly had a different view in how fragile life is. My best wishes you Jai, and the kids.
Saw his "Last Lecture" from CMU and Time Management Lecture from UVA. Such a great human being. His teachings are gonna last forever. He did exactly the right thing and it created a huge impact on not just his students and colleagues or his family but the whole World. If he would have been alive, I would have said him "Thank you for living the way you did and teaching us all how to".
Prof. Pausch, you were one of my biggest inspiration for me & for my family. I wish I had a dad like you. Rest in peace. Your priceless legacy will continue and never end.
I still try to live my life by the way he laid things out. I grew up in a pretty rough place and struggled for years. One of the major turning points in my life came due to Randy Pausch and The Last Lecture he was still alive when I was fortunate enough to see this lecture. If you haven't had a chance, you should really take a watch. I suggest the 1 hour 44 minute version, it explains everything.
Today, I received the news that my mother has Stage 4 lung cancer, and it will kill her. Due to various reasons, I haven't spent as much time with her, as I should have, these past 9 years. But since we've returned to the UK, we've been inseparable. Now I am with her and taking time off from everything to be with her and love her as she deserves. I will show this video to my mum, to encourage her. This is such a beautiful story about perseverance in the face of death, of our own mortality. *I had read the book years ago, and watched the videos, but it never became as real to me as it is now... losing my mum is going to be rough, but at least we can spend however long she has left, together, making each and every day count.
May your mother's last days be the greatest days she has ever lived . May you be able to make your mother feel the same way she has made you feel throughout your life. Or may miracle happens and you get to live a lot more time with your mother than you think you can. My best wishes. I love my mother so much that even the very thought of loosing her someday, however distant, makes me cry. I feel so sorry for you. God bless :)
Thank you to all those who reached out to me and my mum... she just mived into a rented apartment in greater London... busy unpacking and getting her all set up chemo and radio are a no go... too weak and too risky... and imuno are ruled out so just quality of life and pain management now... at least i am here with her... thank you for the support and care... and God bless Randy and his family for this inspiring video..!
Professor Pausch found a wonderful way to leave his legacy- to share his life's learnings. Such a precious gift from such a very special human being. Such humility and heartfelt sincerity. I hope your lesson will live on in the way we all lead our lives. What a shame it would be otherwise... Thank You, may your family be blessed
Randy, wherever you are! you are a BIG INSPIRATION for a lot of people! I hope that message keeps spreading as it is KNOW, dylan, logan and Chloe Your dad was a great human being and without knowing him, I know he loved you guys more than anything!!
i admire this guy so much, i feel bad about my trivial day 2 day problems then I see something like this and I just start crying. I wish ther were someway things like this could be averted my heart just goes out to his wife and kids and I wish there were more people on this earth that cherrished life as much as randy did.
I can never know the kind of courage & tenacity that Dr. Pausch posessed, to have the COURAGE, INTELLIGENCE & BRILLIANCE to leave such a lasting legacy for humanity. Yes, I know (and ADMIRE) that his lecture was for his kids....but he spoke to ALL of us. The world is a better place because of this amazing man! Rest In Peace, Dr. Pausch
A Sincere Thank You to Dr. Pausch. Your book inspired me to push myself beyond the "Brick Walls". With continued Inspiration, Yours Very Sincerely, JB.
so amazin, i couldnt hold my tears in the end, i am sure your kids will be proud of u in the future Randy Paursch, even me 1000 miles away from your class got inspired, thanks for the last lecture,
I don't think I've ever seen a more inspirational human being in my life....I sincerely hope that wherever he is that he is at peace and watching and loving his family. I learned so much from him and it saddens me that i never had the chance to meet him, as so did many. But I know that as long as we remember his message he will always be here watching and teaching us to live the best and most fulfilling life we can in our world
I have been enthralled with this man since I first heard of him appearing on Oprah to reprise his "Final Lecture" speech to his students. I have since watched as much as I can to learn in his words what has insipred him in his life - he has moved me greatly.
Father's day has gone but I really want to wish you a happy father's day out there, Randy. You are the greatest father I know. Goodluck to your children and your wife too. They are lucky to have you ;)
Dear Wall Street Journal, I would like to say, thank you, very much, to you, for putting in the time, energy and effort to both upload and share this video with the youtube family. Have a lovely day, Wall Street Journal.
i read his book... EVERYONE should read it.. gift it... if one truly takes in what this amazing man says in the book.. it can truly change your perspective on life.. RIP ...a wonderful person
Life is not about what we can accumilate as we get to keep nothing, it is about what we give away everyday to those we love and more importantly to those we find it hard to love, Randy gave all that he could to all those he loved and to many he never knew. We find the meaning of life when we live for a reason that is greater than our self.
I had heard about the The Last Lecture but did not see it or read about it until I read Cpt Sullenberger's amazing book, Highest Duty. He co-authored it with Jeff Zaslow. Consequently, I purchased the The Last Lecture and Randy's story moved me to tears. God Bless Jai, Chloe, Logan and Dylan. Randy, even though I never met you in person, thanks for being an inspiration... Rest in Eternal Peace, my Friend...
Hi Wall Street Journal =) Thank you for taking the time and effort to both share and upload this video with youtube family. I hope you have a nice day!
We are all dying. While Randy was speaking these words, thousands of other people actually died. The difference was that he knew when he was going to die approximately. Having said that, rather than sit on his hands and bitch about it, he actually did something about it. What an incredibly brave man and from what I saw in his previous youtubes, he actually had a really positive slant on life in that he saw that material gain was much less important than personal achievements and following your passion was the ultimate goal in life. What an amazing inspiration he was.
Such a tragic end to a brilliant life ... similar to Steve Jobs' last lecture, Randy has shown to the world what it feels like when "one is at the doorstep of death but can still remain positive" 🙏🏻 ... Has something been done about pancreatic cancer or lung cancer or Parkinson's/Alzheimer's too for that matter ... the answer after 16 yrs I'd this lecture sadly still remains NO.
Yeah, you obviously did not do ANY research about him if you think he was a jerk. His entire life was about wanting to help people achieve realize and achieve their own dreams.
You just made me seem so little as I suffer from chronic pain that most likely won't like me I am going to God willing turn 60 this year. I don't think I have ever met anyone like you, but I believe that you are in Heaven designing fun rides for all of us when we arrive and I hope I get to meet you and tell you that you made me a better person today. I have seen his last lecture and I often use humor in mine to keep the audience engaged. I hope his kids make him very proud.
The love inside comes out for the family! The love he inspires for hes sons and wife, the love, the love ... is all that matters, cause after all, life is celebrating through love!
I hope you dont mind but I wrote the following before my lovely Mum died of breast cancer... WHEN IT’S YOUR TURN THAT COMES AROUND When cancer comes to find you, it doesn’t matter who you are Rich or poor, and in between the difference is ignored And even if you are good, it doesn’t slow down at all And if you’re bad the speeds the same, When it’s your turn that comes around It doesn’t take some it takes them all; we all become ghosts upon a wall Cancer doesn’t care when it calls, it takes you anyway And death is never lonely, new arrivals every day When it’s your turn that comes around Minutes rule the hours, hours rule the days The future starts to drift away, loved ones left alone Still waiting for the day, When the doctors say “It’s not your turn” But I know you’ll fight it, when you know deaths looked your way And we’ll remember the used to be’s, when life was so good It was so good, when it was sooo good When cancer comes to find you, it doesn’t matter who you are Rich or poor, and in between the difference is ignored And if you are good, it doesn’t slow down at all And if you are bad, the speeds the same, When it’s your turn that comes around You can battle, you can fight, give it your all to make it right Your life is not rehearsed and death awaits the curtain call So be ready when it’s your turn, for it will happen that’s for sure When it’s your turn that comes around

Tears.. Just so inspiring.. heartbreaking.. rip Randy xx
I hope you dont mind but I wrote the following before my lovely Mum died of breast cancer...
WHEN IT’S YOUR TURN THAT COMES AROUND
When cancer comes to find you, it doesn’t matter who you are
Rich or poor, and in between the difference is ignored
And even if you are good, it doesn’t slow down at all
And if you’re bad the speeds the same,
When it’s your turn that comes around
It doesn’t take some it takes them all; we all become ghosts upon a wall
Cancer doesn’t care when it calls, it takes you anyway
And death is never lonely, new arrivals every day
When it’s your turn that comes around
Minutes rule the hours, hours rule the days
The future starts to drift away, loved ones left alone
Still waiting for the day, When the doctors say “It’s not your turn”
But I know you’ll fight it, when you know deaths looked your way
And we’ll remember the used to be’s, when life was so good
It was so good, when it was sooo good
When cancer comes to find you, it doesn’t matter who you are
Rich or poor, and in between the difference is ignored
And if you are good, it doesn’t slow down at all
And if you are bad, the speeds the same,
When it’s your turn that comes around
You can battle, you can fight, give it your all to make it right
Your life is not rehearsed and death awaits the curtain call
So be ready when it’s your turn, for it will happen that’s for sure
When it’s your turn that comes around

Although profound, legendary, and meaningful - this is one of the saddest videos I've seen in my life, but kind of an "appreciative of life" sad!
