Western Germanic languages include German, English, Dutch, and Afrikaans, along with a variety of relatives. When counting to 20, how similar are English and Dutch? Although no two words are spelled the same in Dutch and English from 1 to 20, many sound very similar. What do you think?
* In this video, the English numbers are pronounced with an American accent.

"So Dutch, are you more similar to German or English?"
Dutch: "Yes."
Too bad they didn't go up to 21, because at that point English and Dutch really start to differ.
True
Twenty one and eenentwintig
English used to do "one and twenty", but later on adopted the Romance way of counting: "twenty-one".

Maybe. Or maybe he is a psychopath. Or a sociopath. Or he just doesn't blink a lot. Conclusion: Body language should not be used on its own to tell what someone is like. However, it can massively help. But probably not for robots if they have no feelings

It does sound like slurred English (at least with these basic words)
English and Dutch have the same origin, but English is much more influenced by French. About 60% of the English vocabulary derived from Latin/French.
@RedPill Crusader The English were only influenced by French, even then not much, they just picked up a lot of words, still kept speaking English and thinking they were English. The Normans though, they were so influenced by French they started to speak it as a native language, instead of old Norse, and even thought of themselves as French by the end of it lol Much more extreme case
There are 3 primary languages in the world. Greek, Latin, Hebrew.
Most of the words in the world are derived from the Greek.
pompoen and pumpkin both came from "pompon"
Dutch is also influenced a lot by french and latin...
The English language is structured Germanically, but steals a bunch of Latin words
This English teacher is extremely beautiful, and the way in which the pronunciation is very beautiful, very sensual! a hug from Brazil !

But that woman has fangs.
the guy is on pause when the girl is speaking.

As an English speaker, Dutch seems kind of relatively easy to learn 🤔
If you do decide to learn it, hit me up if you have any questions!!!
@liamcothran9399as an English speaker who has no experience hearing Dutch, it sounds like it's in that grey area between Language and Accent, similar to Spain + Latin America, and Portugal + Brazil

Dutch is an older then english meaning how simmilar does english sound to dutch?
Something people forget, Dutch is older but none of them evolved from each other. They came from a common origin
@@LAKD It's more complicated than that. Yes that is the core of it, but the west Germanic languages were mostly intelligible till the eight century, and dialects even longer (famously, pronunciation of certain words was used to weed out French spies in the Napoleonic wars). But in practice English changed more afterwards, if you are well versed in Shakespearean English, Dutch and German are suddenly much easier to grok . The way of saying "one and twenty" vs twenty-one is even more recent. (late 19th century)
Dutch sounds like a rough average of English and German. If you randomly switch between those languages and blend some words together, you get Dutch.

English is a germanic language for sure!! But the influence from Latin (when Romans ruled on Britannia) and the Normand French (04 thousand years of domination) printed a distinguished way of written and phonetics on English, making it a little apart from the other germanic ones, like Dutch, Danish or German that did not suffer such influence on its languages 'cause they were never part of the Latin world. They were "the barbarians" like Julius Ceasar said once.
The romans ruled the netherlands too
@@hallojumbo3466 Thank you very much for your correction !! But a question: why did the Dutch language not become Latinized like English?
VictorLawyer _Pt we have a lot of Latin Words too, not as much as english and we use them less frequently than you Guys, most of the time you have a simple dutch word and a Latin word with the same meaning, usually the Latin word is more formal
@@victoremmanuell_ptbr1902 How about frankish (old dutch) and French ? French is dutch + gaul mixed and speak latin with their accent , so some part of Dutch ancient already latinized too
English wasn’t a language in Britain until after the Romans left, most of the latinization is from French or later scholars, and it really only effects the vernacular not the grammar. The analytical aspect of English is because of Old Norse mixing with the Anglo-Saxon during the Viking Age.
