Rintaro Soma is actually a relatively new composer to SEGA, having worked on Frontiers and Maimai. He clearly took inspiration from Tee Lopes for this one. 👍
Tee Lopes took inspiration from Chaka Khan so it goes down the line
wouldnt surprise if tee sat next to him while he wrote this though
MAIMAI???????
@@CDJAM-webm Yup. That Maimai. Some Sonic songs and even JSR stuff can be found on it.
The inspiration from Tee Lopes and Naofumi Hataya
Glad to see the new composers from Frontiers are taking part in this, showing off their skills in new ways
I love the new music and superstars will be epic! 🥰👍🎶
Frontiers had the opposite of music. This is a bad omen.
are we listening to the same song? This sounds great. @@MemeinAndDreamin
That's awesome.
but isn't the composer.. ehh? this post confused me
This feels like a fusion between Studiopolis and JP Collision Chaos, and I'm ALL for it!
True
Absolutely…so many little references to both
Don’t forget casino night zone (2 player)
Im glad someone finally saw how similar this is to studiopolis
Both acts for Studiopolis slapped, I like Act 2 better
I def hear it in this ost
Its been 32 years and Sonic is still in the upper echelons of video game music.
Pretty much every single game has such amazing OST's except for Sonic Chronicles and Sonic 4 though even Sonic 4 for how bad it was did have at least one pretty decent song
@ADreamingTraveler I think the music in Sonic 4 seemed worse than it actually was because the standard for music in these games is just so high. Even the Advance games had bangers even though they were on GBA.

This sounds like one of those songs a beginner makes on FL studio, they lack a good melody.

Man, this is a new theme I like. I'm also glad to see Rintaro Soma come back to compose for another Sonic game. It goes to show SEGA's sound team knows how to choose the best music composers for their projects.

This is what we needed... music that has the classic vibes, but at the same time having its own style (and without trying to use Genesis/MD instruments)
there's nothing wrong with using sounds from the YM2612 or other chips alike, you just gotta make sure that it fits _neatly_ into the song without it sounding off. think of it like those songs you hear that have a bit of Chiptune-y goodness in the background, for example "Snail's House"

@@kaxcommentssomethingREALthere is nothing wrong with it but usually when Sonic gets those chiptunes it is of the Jun Senoue Sonic 4 variety and sounds pretty bad... no do not get me wrong he has good music but I think he has lost his edge for the chiptunes or he just made the music and someone else on the team translated it to the YM2616 because 3D Blast and Sonic 4 are leagues apart in quality.

@@jamescohen1987 In the original Sonic 3 for Genesis there was a carnival zone as well and in that zone was this floating barrel blocking the path that seemed to interact with the character if you jumped on it leading many to assuming you could jump more and make it bounce up and down enough for you to escape to the next section. Well no... This barrel obstacle is the first and, as far I remember, only time a different mechanic was used. You instead had to stop moving (blasphemy in a Sonic game) and instead toggle the up and down buttons which up until this point were only EVER used to look up and down. It was extremely unintuitive and ended up killing many people's run.

Welcome to the family
Welcome to the sonic franchise, Mate!
Love that New Jack Swing is still an alive genre in Sonic's music. Thank you, Masato Nakamura, for inserting such a special musical style into the Sonic franchise! And thank you Rintaro Soma for making good use of it! ❤
But to be a nitpicky nerd for a bit, New Jack Swing really appeared from Sonic 3 onwards, and by then Masato Nakamura already wasn’t on board anymore.
@@ombremad6951 uhh Sonic 1 and 2 didn't really draw from it at all, but CD had a ton of New Jack Swing influence though didn't it?
@@meleeludens yeah but Masato Nakamura wasn’t involved in it either.
@@ombremad6951 oh idk anything about the guy, i was just saying NJS appeared in Sonic before 3 :P
@@meleeludens tbh it’s not NJS in Sonic CD, more akin to electro funk Japanese music of that time, but I’m being nitpicky again. NJS really came to the franchise through the influence of Michael Jackson’s collaborators on Sonic 3, and wasn’t a big part of the franchise at all until Tee Lopes brought it back for Sonic Mania

i love the genesis-esque bass, dips just far enough into nostalgia but not too far
the drums in this are making me think back to Sonic Time Twisted weirdly enough, it's so funky and energetic
Holy smokes that piano bit adds so much to this track👌 Nice job, I’m looking forward to the rest of the ost for this game!
This track is an absolute bop! Sonic Superstars is gonna be awesome, and Rintaro Soma did an excellent job here!
And this is where they go ALL in with the New Jack Swing vibe like they did in the 90's! What an absolute CLASSIC choice!!!
I love how pinball is just a staple in sonic games and theres nothing you can do about it. The world is doomed to fall to a space god that has wiped out entire planets? Pinball time, baby
At 0:37...is that Amy laughing? Like, Cindy's Amy, probably from a Sonic Boom episode? It sure SOUNDS like it even if it's just some unrelated laugh.

After playing superstars early by setting my time zone to a later time, after getting to pinball carnival I loved this song so much. This is going onto my 7 hour playlist of sonic music.
Rintaro Soma previously composed for Frontiers, focused on cyberspace levels and wrote songs like Constructure, Floating in the Blue, and Fog Funk (all of which are my favorites). The cyberspace composers made some amazing bangers, so I'd be interested to see more involvement from the other newcomer composers as well!!
Oh hell yeah Fog Funk
Is it just me or this sounds like Red Volcano from Sonic Robo Blast 2? 🤔

no one can disagree that every sonic game there is always good music, sonic forces has infinite's theme, sonic 1 had green hill, sonic 2 had chemical plant, sonic 3 and knuckles had the final zone act, sonic frontiers had undefeatable, sonic 06 had his world, and thats just naming a few. there are alot more that i have not mentioned. This just show's sonic music is the most consistent part of every sonic game
It's like a mix of Studiopolis Zone and Carnival Night Zone, love it already. 😁💙
This is the best trend in Sonic games, the pinball stage. as annoying as the level type can be if not done right (looking at you collision chaos zone!), you can't deny is iconic.
For a Classic Sonic game, I really hope we get transitions like the ones in 3&K and Mania
the name says "Act 1"
I just noticed, at 0:57 if you look at Sonic, it says Emerald Power but a bit faded and cut off. It looks like whoever recorded this messed up and pressed the Emerald Powers button by accident.
Surprised they left it in, it’s not like it’s all that hard to re-record footage for the video.
After listening to this three times on repeat, I can now confirm that this is a certified BANGER 😮💨🔥
This is already a Sonic Classic in my books. I've already heard it used in the background or videos, and it's just, *chef's kiss*
Rintaro Soma is killing it with his tunes!!! My favorite Frontiers tracks are almost all his. I hope he’s here to stay!
Playing this on blast! Always bringing the bops
A 3d blast
I can hear a bit of casino night along with carnival night. Love it.
Music is always the one thing that stands out about a game regardless of it's overall quality and really elevates the feeling of playing the game.
SEGA and Sonic Team just make sure to do it way past cool for every track they do, and this is NO exception! KEEP IT UP!!!
So this song used on the interview really was Pinball Carnival's theme! It sounds amazing!
I hope the song used in SEGAWorld Sonic Statue restauration is also part of the OST because that song is also awesome (and I hope it is for a stage)
That little "let's go in the background" is such a nice touch. Love attention to detail like that

Love that Tee’s influence is now baked into Sonic’s musical DNA
(Edit, because reading is fundamental)
In case any other loud ass people wanna come in here and be wrong: YES I AM CELEBRATING TEE LOPES INFLUENCE ON THE FRANCHISE based on THIS PIECE because Rintaro CLEARLY borrowed (amongst other things most likely from what I’m hearing) the leitmotif from Studiopolis.
NO, Tee didn’t invent Sonic music.
YES, Tee clearly has influences in and out of the franchise that contribute to his style. But there’s a REASON he got hired by Sega to work on these soundtracks and this new track is an effect of that decision. LET TEE HAVE HIS FLOWERS and please go somewhere else to be a fucking hater, damn.
You can literally leave your own comment about someone else’s influence that YOU hear, somewhere fucking else.
More like new jack swing tho which tbf was already the standard since Sonic CD
It really pains me when people say that because all Tee Lopes did was take Sonic back to it's roots with New Jack Swing. But people keep acting like he invented this style of music. He didn't.
@@the-NightStarexactly, not to discredit Tee in ANY way but some idolize his work just a weee bit too much. I'm sure he doesn't want that either lol
@@Fooza05 This! Classic Sonic always had that groovy style! Spring Yard, Mystic Cave and JP Collision Chaos have such iconic tracks. Tee Lopes did in fact improve the style even more, but saying he did it from scratch is a pretty wrong statement, in my honest opinion.
Ohtani, Senoue and Tee Lopes are the only names people know in the sound team so it may be a fault with the industry not pushing names more. i'd say Tee Lopes was massively influenced by Hataya's music in Sonic CD and a bit of Ogata
I've seen a few people say "Gambling" but last time I checked, neither Pinball nor Carnivals have anything to do with Gambling.
So does that mean I'm not a gambling addict after all? Thank goodness.
