Not a myth but as a kid I was super obsessed with this book called “Smile”. It was about a girl in the 1990s who had braces after a terrible accident and every second she had on her braces they would hurt. The book also showed how the old tightening process worked, how hey are put on, etc. As a kid this destroyed the way I saw braces since I would always romanticize the idea of having braces. When I got them I thought I would be a goner. Again, the book was set in the 1990s. When I actually got them I did feel some pain however everything else wasn’t as bad.
Hi ! You blew me away with the wisdom teeth myth. That was my excuse all this time in why my teeth shifted. But I know from my ortho and you just justified it that it was not wearing my retainer. In my defense lol When I was younger the ortho I had said I could stop wearing my retainer at 18. Well that was obviously a lie, my current Ortho said that wearing a retainer is the only thing that will help my teeth keeping straight! Again your wisdom teeth comment just blew me away haha!
i don't consider this as a myth, i had to extract my wisdom teeth because it caused my teeth to move to the left (I had extracted 6th tooth for braces treatment, now i have to wear braces again because it caused my teeth to look worse than even before).
I'm 27 and have a consult with an orthodontist in a couple weeks, I have so many questions for them. My biggest problem is that both of my canine teeth are impacted and I still have my primary teeth. I watch this channel so I will gain some kind of knowledge before I get braces
Dr. Greg is my orthodontist, and this is what he did in my case. I started at 30 ,I had impacted canines with baby teeth in their regular place. Wisdom teeth removed first ,then bond and expose surgery -I had a chain to pull the canine down. One canine was in a spot that would cause too many side effects so it had to stay and both baby teeth canine teeth pulled then a pre molar pulled planned was for the molar next to it would be shifted ,shaved and shaped to look like a canine. I also had too much crowding on my bottom side and had a “bull dog “ bite so my bottom premolars were pulled and the gaps have now closed. All in all it has been 2 years in braces so far I think I have 4 months to go. Out of pocket Cost -with my good insurance -total $3,500 because I had to get treated for moderate periodontist in the beginning. The difference is significant. It is a dream come true for me to have straight, white teeth. So worth the cost, pain, hassle, and effort to get to where I am. If I could of done it earlier I would of, no regrets and can’t wait to get my braces off.
@@rainbowpandasays8851 I had my consult 2 days ago, my orthodontist is suggesting his easiest method for treatment for me, which is to have one tooth on the bottom be pulled, since I have some gum recession there, and the other teeth will be pulled into place which will free up a bit of space from overcrowding. Both baby teeth will be removed, in addition to my impacted canines being removed as well, I have no room at all to have them brought into place, and could potentially be fused to the bone, so he doesn't want to risk that. He mentioned that my first premolars (I believe he called them) are already a bit pointy so those can be adjusted and pulled into place to act as my canines. He told me I would be an 18-24 month case, and said I would be a good candidate for invisalign, which I don't think I would want. So I'm getting top row ceramic, bottom row metal. My out of pocket cost after insurance is about $3900, but had to make a minimum $500 down payment, so am still responsible for $3400 now. I will be having the 5 teeth extracted next month and once healed from that, I can being the braces process.
Well, usually when your teeth are really clean and you keep up with dental hygiene, your teeth hurt more than if you had plaque and stuff. It means your teeth are shifting and that your wires are straightening out. (Lol idk if this will help but hey)
I got my braces 4 days ago and I wanna take them off already 😂 they are so annoying and only because I can’t eat literally anything. My teeth are so sore and too weak to bite and chew anything but the pain is just throbbing here and there. Pain is not bad I haven’t had to take any pain pills it’s just irritating 😭 this is going to be a long journey but my results will be worth it

the only reason my treatment got extended so much was because the day i was supposed to get them off was a week after the quarantine/lockdown first set off in March 😂
I just got my braces yesterday and I'm so glad for this channel! Super informative! One thing that I've heard no one talk about is the cement thing that my ortho put over my molars coz apparently I have class 3 teeth so they need to correct my bite. But I literally cannot bite or chew at all with that. Generally, how long does it have to be there? Am I gonna have to survive on soup for 3-4 months? That seems tragic coz I cannot eat any type of solid food. I can kinda eat mashed rice, but it takes me like an hour to eat one bowl coz it's kinda painful :')
Please tell me more about it...I got braces 2 days ago and he put that cement silver thing on my molars too. I was confused if he did something wrong but now I get it happens with other people too and yess I cannot bite down anything, not even soft foods. Please tell me more about it...how's it now?
@@asthapahwa1667 hey! Yea it's been seven months woww. So the cement thing is still there on my teeth lol, the ortho hasn't removed it yet, but my bite was fixed in around 1-2 months, and after that I was able to chew down everything properly. And I can basically eat anything now. 😌😌 But yea, I had to survive on softer foods for a month or two - like soft rice, soup, Mac and cheese, porridge etc, as I couldn't chew at all... Kinda had to use my tongue to smash the food in my mouth to make it small enough to swallow XDD

@@evoplanet627 heyy! did you always floss before? maybe your gums bleed because you're not used to flossing. It will bleed in the starting, but after you floss consistently for days, it will stop bleeding. Also, I use a water flosser and it is the best thing ever! If you can, invest in one coz it makes flossing so so much easier! As for the food thing, due to the cement thingy I was not able to eat solid food before. But if you don't have that thing, then you can pretty much eat anything except for very hard food that might break brackets. You should also avoid super chewy stuff. And you should cut food and eat. For instance, you should NEVER eat a whole apple with braces. Cut the apple into pieces and then eat it. And once a month, the dentist makes some changes in your braces and for 2-3 days after that, your teeth pain a bit. During that time, you can eat softer foods and ice cream! :D
8:02 haha, my dad set off a metal detector in an airport in China with his very light and small metal necklace. I’m certain braces would set off the metal detectors there
Number 2 is so true. I had braces for two years and I was supposed to get them off the summer of me going into freshman year. I got them off the Christmas of 8th grade. Best Christmas gift ever!!!!!
Hey, can i ask this question? why does one of my rubber bands feel so much tighter then the other side, like one side feels okay with the pain but the other side hurts really bad and it feels a lot tighter
If you have need a mouthguard for sports, I highly recommend a Sisu mouthguard. They fit over braces well and you can remold it a bunch to fit your moving teeth. They are about $25, but it’s worth it.
Ive just had braces, my treatment time is 30 months, and I'm increasingly concerned about root resorption, to the extent of having second thoughts and halting my treatment. Is root resorption a myth too ?
I was at my friends house once and my top lip got stuck under my band hook and i had to pull my lip off of it and it also bled after.... So you can get stuck to your own lip 😂
New to braces here... actually just got them put on yesterday. This video and channel is such great information! PS. My teeth are so sore and I’m sick of soup already 😩🥲
Hey! It would mean a lot to me if you would answer my question. I'm getting headgear tomorrow. But now i'm a bit scared because some people say that by restricting the growth of the upper jaw, the breath-way will also be affected and the face will become flat and deformed looking. Since I want to do a job where Almost perfect physical health is really, really important, I'm concerned about this happening and then having to deal with breathing/sleeping problems once I get older. Is this true or just a conspiracy theory kinda thing?
I have a narrow teeth structure and I really want to expand my teeth , jaw structure, so it looks wider. Can it be done at 23 and how much time it takes ??
Oh and do you have any type of plan if a patient learns abroad like me and only have 1 months of break every occasion like Christmas, Easter etc. and summer only have 2 months break.
I got my braces Tuesday and my orthodontist told me to chew gum just sugar free because it helps with muscle movement and other things and just to make sure it isn’t a hard gum and when it gets hard throw it out
4:00 I have to STRONGLY DISAGREE!!! as it did happen to me! I had my 6th tooth extracted for braces before my wisdom teeth grew. When they started to grow, it caused all my teeth to move to the left and nothing could stop this, (* already during the braces my teeth started moving to the left, and I blame the orthodontist for this bad treatment, but i was a teenager at that time and had no power/no choice in this treatment). But after i took off the braces, my wisdom teeth started to erupt, and VERY quickly my teeth moved so much that I have now one of my 1st front tooth right in the center... Now I look worse than before the treatment... and to fix this, another orthodontist had to extract my wisdom tooth from the other side.
Regarding sports, is cycling fine? Big crashes where I have broken bones and/or teeth have never happened to me, but should I be worried about that enough to get a mouth guard?
If I got my braces off and didn’t wear the retainer would my teeth shift back to where they were or would my teeth shift to more problems than I had before ?
Love your videos!!! I had a quick question, I just got my final detail wire put in, will they keep this same wire in until the end of treatment or is it possible they will change the wire out?
Hey, so i my orthodontist put on something like a bump on my molars to prevent me from applying pressure on my lower braces. Can i take listerine with this bump or will it actually like damage it?
I am 47 and I'm in the process of getting braces again. I had them at age 12, but I never received a retainer. Now that I am older and got my children's oral care out the way (braces and wisdom teeth pulled), I am concentrating on my oral care. The only issue is my insurance doesn't cover braces after age 18.
In your practice what would you suggest to a patient if the braces could not close up a diastema? My orthodontist a said that mine could not be closed up completely. Is that a case where veneers would be needed to finish the job?
One of my molars did get shifted by a wisdom tooth tho after already having my orthodontic treatment finished so now I’m back with 2 brackets to fix this
I got my braces put on about 1-2 days ago and today i feel asleep and when i woke up my left backend bracket detached and now, while washing my teeth i realised that the right backend bracket was shaking (somewhat loose). I took lots of care of my teeth, didn't eat anything close to hard and still it detached 24h after it has been put on. If this has anything to do with it, i quote: "you are a. Scared or b. Hungry because you do be drooling quite a lot". Idk if this has anything to do with it but maybe my teeth weren't dry enough. Is it my fault or a bad placement?
Once I played football (soccer) , very high impact strike hit on my side cheek, broke my braces and the bleeding were really bad. So I started avoiding sports all together till I finished my treatment !
Hey, I just got my braces today, my orthodontist put on my braces without doing any x rays or taking any pictures he just looked at them few times and after few days immediately put them on, is this okay?
@@chadzan I'm sorry about the "suspicious" comment though, shouldn't have said that when I don't even know about the whole situation😣. Yeah your ortho probably has his own method...
I had the traditional braces in my teens, the orthodontist decided that it would be best to keep them on six more months to be certain. I wasn't thrilled by that, but it turned out fine. I had a wisdom tooth(three removed before braces) emerge in my fifties, four decades later. Unreal. No problem, just a surprise.
I NEED ADVICE!! I have braces as a teen. My teeth have shifted and I've gotten invisaline a couple of months ago.... I was told I needed IPR for my future trays.. I have already had this done with my 1st set of braces. Do i need this?? I love my smile I just need them shifted back into place... what do you suggest????
An orthodontist told me that I needed a jaw expander and I’m 23 !!! After that my dentist told me to go to other orthodontist, I did and he told me that I didn’t needed a jaw expander and now I have my teeth perfectly straight and I love them 💕
For 3:45 i have 4 wisdom teeth and my Dentist suggested to get a permanent retainer cause I still have my wisdom teeth and it will cause my fixed teeth to shift. 🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨🤨
Hello Doc, I have a few questions maybe for another video: what about 2nd molars? Are they to be completly erupted and aligned?? Also, braces hurt the mouth mainly while sleeping, causing painful are canker sores, how to avoid, and handle this wounds once they are there. Appreciate it!
Hi Dr. Greg! I know the chance of you read this comment or even reply to this is very low but still, I wanna ask you this question. My orthodontist is sick, so I haven't met him for over a month. I can’t reach him or contact him for some reason. From the last 2 appointments, I’m wearing elastics (even from the last appointment, he prescribed me the strong one). I'm aware that my tooth is moving, and even it started rotating (in the wrong direction) because of the elastics. Should I just stop wearing the elastics? Or should I just use it religiously as he told me on my last appointment? Thank you in advance, doc! Please pray for my orthodontist, because I surely need to see him a.s.a.p 😅
Omg thanks for letting me know that the braces time is just an estimate. Because my teeth have been straightening at a rapiidd rate and i was a bit worried the dentist would delay me unneccasarily just so i complete the time period
hey! can you please reply i have a question! i had powerchains for a month and my gaps closed then my dentist took the power chains off because my teeth were together now and now i just have regular braces. is this okay that i only wore powerchains for a month? will my gaps open again?
Doc, I got 1 missing lateral teeth (no.12) and wear a braces past month. My doc didn't say anything what he gonna do about that missing teeth. Might ask him next appointment. What option are there to fix that missing teeth?
I have occasionally chewed Trident as this gum was stayed as "ok" to chew (by my orthodontist). Pre-pandemic, pieces of Trident were available at the front desk. I don't chew it often as sometimes it would partial cling to my braces.
@@fireicexox i heard sugar free gum was okay so I didn’t think it would’ve messed up treatment. Also i was lowkey addicted to gum before braces hahah it wasn’t about freshening up

The difference between then and "ordinary" braces, the length differences, does it actually hurt less of is it just a myth? and a general overview on this treatment. I really need help i know nothing hahah Ps Just a suggestion ☺️ ur Awsome anyhow
Most of the time for the rest of your life at night. There’s also a wire they can put on the back of your front few teeth called a fixed retainer that you could get but I’m pretty sure you would still need a clear retainer.
Soo I have a question. I'm getting my braces soon, but my dentist said that I have bad/weak enamel. That made me question that is it safe to get them (braces) at all? Does it make my enamel even more weaker?
I got braces 6 months back and my ortho told me that I need extractions unless I'll get no results...but my mom doesn't agree with extractions many myths on her head..I don't know how to convince her🙁
Extraction of teeth ( usually suggested for overbite or overcrowding) is not a good idea. Though your teeth will be straightened, your smile will be narrowed. You will have less defined jawline and sunken cheeks which will result in pre-mature aging. Many have experienced sleep apnea. There is always a way to create space other than extraction of teeth. Do a proper research before you get your your teeth extracted. I did undergo teeth extraction and I am regretting it every single day. Hope this helps and all the best:)
Fact or fiction: will premolar extractions for protrusion lead to narrow smile/TMJ/sleep apnea issues? If not, why do so many people share their horror stories online?🙃
hi i got my premolars removed and I will say my face did change especially my side profile but for the better my mouth no longer protrudes and i think ppl only tend to share horrible stories than good ones
Could you do a video on Bite Blocks I got them the other day and I’m not really sure how to deal with them. I got them put on my two front teeth because I have a overbite
Been watching your videos for a while to see which braces I want and opted to the quick results braces lol I’m an adult and have no time for the crazy and cute like I did back in the day lol… I had a stroke last year and had to do a MRI scan. Before I went in they asked me if I had any metal plates or braces or anything electrical on me I had to leave my phone and I didn’t have any metal plates when it came to the braces I was confused because they said braces and any metal can cause high radiation levels or something like that…is this true? If so should I wait to get braces after or if I do have metal braces should I take them off before my next appointment? I really love this explained in a video! Love your videos. keep it up! ❤😊
Can you do a video on hyperdontia? I had two extra teeth removed with my third molars that grew sideways out from my gums above the middle of my 2nd and 1st molars

My son was estimate time is 30 months. What is root resorption?
Is the absorption of roots, technically the roots of the teeth become shorter, which can cause problems later on.
@@jad1910 so brace may or may not causes it?
@@jennyd5728 Yes, the chances are slim though, it is usually the traumatized teeth that are susceptible
Me right now🥲
Thank you for your support. I just got braces three days a ago. I am in lot of pain but your videos helped. Thank you again
Oh and do you have any type of plan if a patient learns abroad like me and only have 1 months of break every occasion like Christmas, Easter etc. and summer only have 2 months break.
I’m on my 5th month of braces and got my final arch wire on the bottom put on a few days ago, it has hooks on the bottom of it, is this for elastics?
Yes, wear your retainer l
Yes they will go back to their own position. I did not and my teeth have gotten gaps
My auntie had to get braces 2 times because of that
Love your videos!!! I had a quick question, I just got my final detail wire put in, will they keep this same wire in until the end of treatment or is it possible they will change the wire out?
I love your vids, as usual, thanks again
Hey, so i my orthodontist put on something like a bump on my molars to prevent me from applying pressure on my lower braces. Can i take listerine with this bump or will it actually like damage it?
Look up bite turbos
I have bite blocks too theyre sooo annoying. I dont think mouth wash will affect it
@@ye23. ok thanks
That expansion retainer graphic gave me trauma flashbacks 😳😂
Love watching your videos ever since I gotten my braces I been watching your videos more then ever
Kindly do a video about self ligating braces
What happens after i finish my treatment for invisalign. Like my attachments, new trays, and after care?
I am 47 and I'm in the process of getting braces again. I had them at age 12, but I never received a retainer. Now that I am older and got my children's oral care out the way (braces and wisdom teeth pulled), I am concentrating on my oral care. The only issue is my insurance doesn't cover braces after age 18.
I actually chew alot of gum after adjustments. It helps with the sensitivity and allows me to eat food at a faster rate
i do too but i dont bite i use my tongue n hard palette to soften de gum then spit it out but if i do eat hard food i use my molars
How many millimeters would be considered normal for an overjet please?
I’m not an orthodontist or dentist but I believe it’s 1 - 2 mm however please do check as it’s also based on your case.
Wow..even without the panoramic x ray? Sounds suspicious...🤔
@@CursedMudflap yea, maybe I should just trust his process, maybe he is just experienced I dont know.
@@chadzan I'm sorry about the "suspicious" comment though, shouldn't have said that when I don't even know about the whole situation😣. Yeah your ortho probably has his own method...
@@CursedMudflap i just hope he doesnt end up making my teeth even worse, but I never heard a complaint about him 😂
Brace yourself
My face: 😀🙃
You... cricked your head all the way around
What about the metal inside your face after surgery?
Could you do a video about all the controversy with face forward orthotropics versus orthodontists.
yay early! love your videos they've been so helpful🤗
I’m so glad you find them useful !!
What is the best tooth gem glue to use 🤔? I Have been looking for some but cant find any.
Can I use an over the counter might guard? I have bruxism really badly.
An orthodontist told me that I needed a jaw expander and I’m 23 !!! After that my dentist told me to go to other orthodontist, I did and he told me that I didn’t needed a jaw expander and now I have my teeth perfectly straight and I love them 💕
Lucky you went to 2 orthodontist before you start.
There’s a thing I found online that said to double up your elastics witch can damage tooth roots also great video
For 3:45 i have 4 wisdom teeth and my Dentist suggested to get a permanent retainer cause I still have my wisdom teeth and it will cause my fixed teeth to shift. 🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨🤨
It’s been too long!! Need more videossss
Dr.Greg why aren’t you posting these days?😔
I’m getting my braces tomorrow and my palette expander off tomorrow so the braces are only on 4 teeth any tips
How you feeling?
my othodontic said i can chew gum but only chew the one that says no surger
Hi Dr.
I have a 12mm overjet and a 50% overbite but my dentist is only going to put braces on my arch, is that okay?
I'm 26 and I've been recommended a palate expander to fix crossbite
Can you make a video about extreme overcrowding for adults. And what would be your recommendation
hey! can you please reply i have a question! i had powerchains for a month and my gaps closed then my dentist took the power chains off because my teeth were together now and now i just have regular braces. is this okay that i only wore powerchains for a month? will my gaps open again?
Doc, I got 1 missing lateral teeth (no.12) and wear a braces past month. My doc didn't say anything what he gonna do about that missing teeth. Might ask him next appointment. What option are there to fix that missing teeth?
Wait a minute, I thought sugar free gum was okay! Oops!!!😩
I have occasionally chewed Trident as this gum was stayed as "ok" to chew (by my orthodontist). Pre-pandemic, pieces of Trident were available at the front desk. I don't chew it often as sometimes it would partial cling to my braces.
No gum - why would you take the chance of messing up the treatment. There are other ways to freshen up.
@@fireicexox i heard sugar free gum was okay so I didn’t think it would’ve messed up treatment. Also i was lowkey addicted to gum before braces hahah it wasn’t about freshening up
@@Rita-23 I’ve only chewed it twice but I won’t anymore to be on the safe side :)

I am really a newbie to braces (I've had mine foe a month and two weeks) i have self ligating braces and its been a struggle finding good reliable info online about this type of treatment, i had an idea to maybe ask you to make a video about self ligating braces...? The difference between then and "ordinary" braces, the length differences, does it actually hurt less of is it just a myth? and a general overview on this treatment. I really need help i know nothing hahah
Ps
Just a suggestion ☺️ ur Awsome anyhow
can you answer in a video on why my brackets are so low because people are telling my orthodontist did it wrong
i have a question for DR.Greg...
How long do you need to where your retainer
Most of the time for the rest of your life at night. There’s also a wire they can put on the back of your front few teeth called a fixed retainer that you could get but I’m pretty sure you would still need a clear retainer.

I'm suddenly got that. I'm just waiting for my orthodontic open to remove the braces.
Hey Doc, love your videos. Should your teeth began to feel loose? I’ve had my braces on for 4 months and my teeth feel a little loose.
This is very normal. Your teeth have to loosen up in order to move and make room for your teeth, to be straight. Trust me your teeth won’t fall out :)
Soo I have a question.
I'm getting my braces soon, but my dentist said that I have bad/weak enamel.
That made me question that is it safe to get them (braces) at all? Does it make my enamel even more weaker?
My upper molar(where the last button is fixed) shifts down. Is it normal? I had my braces since last month.
I got braces 6 months back and my ortho told me that I need extractions unless I'll get no results...but my mom doesn't agree with extractions many myths on her head..I don't know how to convince her🙁
Hello so, i have braces for about 2 months now, and i can feel like a coil or something in my pre molar, and it hurts badly when i bite,
Can you explain difference between bonding and veneers ? My laterals are good shape but are small. I don’t now what to use bonding or veneers?
Doctor it is okay to have alternative braces color?
Can you please talk about Laser Surgery with impacted Canine
Extraction of teeth ( usually suggested for overbite or overcrowding) is not a good idea. Though your teeth will be straightened, your smile will be narrowed. You will have less defined jawline and sunken cheeks which will result in pre-mature aging. Many have experienced sleep apnea. There is always a way to create space other than extraction of teeth. Do a proper research before you get your your teeth extracted.
I did undergo teeth extraction and I am regretting it every single day.
Hope this helps and all the best:)
Too late now already got 4 extractions so I'm with you now ⚰️
Is it true that braces make your face and lips look thinner? Does your face shape change?
Fact or fiction: will premolar extractions for protrusion lead to narrow smile/TMJ/sleep apnea issues? If not, why do so many people share their horror stories online?🙃
hi i got my premolars removed and I will say my face did change especially my side profile but for the better my mouth no longer protrudes and i think ppl only tend to share horrible stories than good ones
Could you do a video on Bite Blocks I got them the other day and I’m not really sure how to deal with them. I got them put on my two front teeth because I have a overbite
hi doc i have a question, i have one crooked tooth and i want to ask if you know how long it will take to straighten it? thanks 😊
How do you feel about remineralizing toothpastes? I'm looking into getting the Boka brand.
Can you talk about the difference between clippy c braces vs traditional braces? In terms of treatment time and maybe differences in treatment
I just got my braces 3 weeks ago and Can I drink soda and Gatorade? I've heard so many stories that your not supposed to.
You can just brush your teeth after
Been watching your videos for a while to see which braces I want and opted to the quick results braces lol I’m an adult and have no time for the crazy and cute like I did back in the day lol… I had a stroke last year and had to do a MRI scan.
What do I do if I don’t feel comfortable with my orthodontist, he didn’t explain anything, I have anxiety so need things to be clear in order to stay calm
I got my braces about 4 days ago, but a few hours after getting put on, I got kicked in the tooth and had two brackets kicked out ( I do taekwondo).
