What's interesting is that the early vin cars seem to have this style of slow paced rythmic starter sound And some time in the production run. They changed the starter motor and made it sound much quieter, and it starts up much quicker.
Intertesting! Working on the suspension about a year later, I found the main ground wire connection was loose. I bet it was glowing red hot after this crank! And actually, the car has cranked faster ever since tightening the connection.
Glad you didn't rev the guts out of the engine when it did eventually start as some people would have done, the worst thing possible to do to a cold engine & especially if it has not been running for 5 years as well! Assume you have changed the oil & filter prior to starting? Do you still have the car & is it running OK & on the road now please?
Actually no, I did not change the oil at all. I considered doing that but the oil was clean and I thought adding more variables was not wise. I run Mobil 1 with 1 quart of 30w conventional to keep the seals conditioned. Kind of interesting, I never have really given much thought to time in the crankcase as a gauge for when to change oil. I have put probably 500 miles on it since this video was shot. Starts right up unless it sits like a month between runs. Then I just have to crank it like 5-8 seconds and it fires up. I always put Marvel and Stabil in the gas, I think that helps keep the fuel system in good shape.
I only had to crank mine a long time because I replaced some fuel system components and it had to pump up. Used to be hard to hot start before I adjusted the idle mixture. It starts well in all conditions now.
@0972q8 Exactly right! The important rule is when starting a cold engine & any engine which has been slumbering for any given length of time: NO REVVING OR 'GIVING IT GAS'! You're going the right way to wreck the engine doing this & really there is no need for it whatsoever!

Going to burn your starter up cranking that long
It's not long cranking that will burn up a starter--tho it COULD. But you would need to crank it much much longer than that.
Hi, would it be ok if I use this video for my TH-cam channel? I will credit you. I am trying to complete a cold start collection
Yes that's fine, thanks for asking.
@@boydduckett9240 thanks. What year is the car?
