I love flip overs, I have had LS2 Valiant for 2 yrs plus. I tend to ride with chin flipped over 90 percent of the time only dropping it in cold or high speed situation. Yes it is a little noisy but no where near as loud as Scorpion ADX2 modular. Obviously putting chin bar in closed position reduces noise but you lose the fresh air that I really enjoy. Good video, nice to have flipovers targeted.
@@Bob-ts2tu cant really say, never use head set for music only comms on ADX2, which I taped the seams with duck tape to reduce wind noise and wore ear buds for sound, so I never really noticed an issue. The LS2 I've used on Speedmaster and my Tiger, but even with face open I find the wind noise less than the ADX2, odd really. Again never used headset with LS2. Sorry I can't advise further. A problem with helmets I found out the hard way with the ADX2 is that you can try them in the shop but not on the road. When I rode the ADX2 I immediately picked up pu the wind noise, by far the worst I've had. But the company I bought it from wouldn't accept the helmet back as it had been worn even though it was not fir for purpose. Thanks for the review. I'm currently looking at upgrading my Shark evo 3 which has served me well. In Australia, the evo ES is on sale being an old model now but tempting.
Had a Nolan N100 back in the days, which did what it had to do. The chin guard was broken off clean, but i still had mine. Only had full face helmets since.
My first flipover was a Roof (liked the design), the 2nd one was a Shark which I loved more then the Roof. Now I have a LS2, for 3 years, and I must say, I find this one the best one of the three. My son switched from a LS2 (same a mine) to a Scorpion. However he is pleased with the Scorpion he liked the LS2 more.
LS2 Valiant for 2 years. No complaints. Super great during allergy/sneezing season! Hahaha! Sneeze itch coming... flip it quick and voila! Problem solved!
I was wearing the early model Valiant when a drunk driver pulled out in front of me. I still had a mild concussion due to a sizing problem, but the helmet did it's job great and although I did the safe thing and tossed it after it took minimal damage amlnd I'm sure could've still been used for a while after.
Ls2 advant x Carbon to me , I think is the more intelligent confortable not to heavy helmet for every day around 1 hrs ride , specially summer time in London !
Two of these have had SHARP tests now - the Scorpion and the LS2 both managed 4 stars but the LS2's chin bar latch failed in 37% of impacts and the Scorpion's chin bar failed in 67% of impacts. SHARP don't explicitly test the latch they just record how many times it was not fully locked after each impact test. Having crashed chin first in a Shark Evo-One 2 (0% latch failure) and the latch remained firmly locked I would prefer something a little more secure.
I have LS2 Advant FF906. Looks good, fits perfectly but really wide. Wind noise not really annoying. I have a Scorpion ADX too. Cannot decide which is better. That's because I keep the Scorpion on shelf and I can change them acc. to my mood :)

Have a Scorpion Exo Tech Carbon. The fit an finish is really good. However, I find the quality is not quite up to the price-tag. I had the mechanism for the inner sun-visor (raise/lower) break, rendering the inner visor useless as there is no replacement to find (at least I haven't found one). It's a pity they make a mechanism you practically use all the time ,out of a flimsy plastic piece.

@@sportsbikeshop Thanks, I didn't know about the warranty to be honest (or was too lazy to look it up). But since I bought the helmet online from Germany (I live in Sweden), I'm not sure I could be bothered to go through the trouble of sending it back to Germany. I instead just opted to fit the dark outer visor instead of the clear one. I did like the inner visor though, since it's a bit hard to fit sunglasses in the helmet. Advant x carbon owner, size m for me is the same as my arai and shoei nxr , it’s a little tight to put on at first because of the flip but using it on a scooter and a multi strada it’s great having a bit more vision riding round in busy areas then obvious drop the front on faster roads, so quick and simple to use, I don’t fully like the obvious extra width on the front area but more versatile than a full face and you definitely enjoy that extra Peripheral vision when riding in built up areas 🙂
I have a Roof Boxxer Carbon. It’s a great helmet let down by terrible fogging and the chin strap seems to be angled such that it wants to cut in to my neck unless I tilt the helmet backwards to compensate.
Same with flip up helmets like the Caberg Duke that i have, is there any camera on the market that lends itself to fitting these flip over, and flip up helmets? It's a big struggle trying to find some way to mount a camera on them.
Best option is to mount a Drift camera on the side of the lid and rotate the lens, but you'll need to check it leaves room for the rotation. It's more likely with a regular flipfront like your Duke than with a flipover like these. Cheers, Tony
I ride a maxi scooter I was interested in a open face helmet but but longer motorways rides a full helmet would be better so are these a good compromise ?

Have tried the HJC (review link below), but not the Airoh. The HJC wasn't rated highly enough by customers when I put this together, hence it missing out. Cheers, Tony HJC i100 review: th-cam.com/video/Xopm-Y2dODw/w-d-xo.html
I have the HJC, and I'm happy with it. Wind noise has a lot to do with the bike, fairing and wind screen. With the HJC when you flip the chin bar Iver the visor comes back down automatically, it doesn't with any of the others.
As a serial Shark Evo buyer, I was disappointed to see they don't have a 22.06 version, especially as they pioneered the format. Do you know if there is a new model in the pipeline? I did email Shark, but they didn't reply. Great review, thanks. I think the LS2 will be my next buy.

Been looking at helmets, im quite beardy in full and lengh, would flip over could be quite comfortable but im just not sure, dont really have a gear shop close to try ¬.¬
So no review of the HJC i100. Bought mine from Sportsbikeshop but not included. It knocks the spots of the LS and the roof. Noted also excluded the Shark Evolution

I bought an HJC i100 and the overcomplicated hinge mechanism drove me nuts. It automatically puts the visor down again when you flip the chin bar. I tend to flip it when I'm about to park or would like a decent view of the ground directly below the bike. The mechanism broke within 6 months and I got a replacement helmet from my dealer. This one broke about 6 months later just as I was setting off for the NC100. I had to disassemble both hinges and I pulled out over half a dozen bits of broken plastic in order to be able to use it at all. It's been returned for a full refund which is why I'm watching this video! I can see a trip to SBS in the near future... 😂
My job means there is virtually always something to wear for review. On the rare occasions I don't have something to review, and if I'm riding my own Yamaha FZ-1 Fazer rather than a 'work' bike, I wear a Shark Spartan GT Pro Carbon. Cheers, Tony
I've now added those to the description below the video, which I'm aiming to do on all of these guides from now on. In short, all Scorpions and LS2s run two shells (XS-L in the smallest) the Nolan has two shells (3XS-M in the smallest) and the Roof only has one shell (S-XL). Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop Thanks! That's great!! Manufacturer often just tell a helmet comes in e.g. 2 different outer shells wich does not really help as you wanna know if you can wear the smaller one.
I SO wish someone would review helmets for people, like me, that have to wear glasses. I recently bought an LS2 Valiant helmet, and try as I might, there is just no way that I can comfortably wear my glasses. I have avoided all but local rides since buying the LS2 given the issue with wearing glasses. I have two style of glasses, ordinary wrap around the ear and the Oakley style gripper frames, neither fit comfortably. I am very disappointed with the LS2..
There are many variables with helmets - and this is one of them. I wore all five of these helmets with my spectacles, but it doesn't mean anyone else would be able to. It's the same for fit and noise - something that fits me and is quiet for me might be exactly the opposite for you. I can only really suggest trying helmets in one of our stores and bringing your specs to see which work best with them. Cheers, Tony
Get glasses with thinner earpieces. I have the Valiant and the Horizon, and have no problems with either of them and the Horizon is the older and more comfortable of the two, probably because I've worn it so much my glasses slip in easily. However, I've also mastered putting the helmets on with my glasses on my face first. That actually ends up being the most comfortable as I don't have to try to thread my earpieces through while my big elephant ears get compressed. Worst case scenario, Flying Eyes has prescription glasses specifically for helmet wearers, but are extremely expensive, I priced out a pair with progressive lenses and just about shat myself. Don't know why progressive lenses have to cost so much more.
@@blandrooker6541 Thanks. Maybe it is my head shape that isn't compatible with the LS2... I am reluctant to buy new glasses, I had no problems with either pair in my HJC, even when it was new and after I had bought a new set of liners. I'll try that trick of your and put my glasses on before the helmet
I have an LS2 Valiant. I have ridden it with 6 different bikes that I have owned in past 1 1/2 years. 2 bikes I could not ride at highway speeds w/o really bad buffeting to the point no way I could ride highway more than 15 minutes. I had bad wind buffeting depending on the bike and if I had a fairing or windshield. I switched to a Neotec II SHOEI and all the bikes, wind noise, buffeting are all but gone (wind noise within reasonable level)
Just bought the Advant x carbon. Disappointed with the Titanium colour as it was lighter than the Internet Images I was attracted to. Great helmet though however only one gripe, it's a bitch to strap..I've never had a helmet that I struggle with to strap as they twist, I lose left grip as I'm trying to insert and the chin material gets in the way..
I agree the Advant is a bit fiddly to fasten. I suspect it's because the pull tab that makes it easier to release the strap makes it harder to locate the entry point for the slider. I found I got used to it with a bit of time and I hope it's the same for you. Cheers, Tony

No problem. Do you mean connectivity with intercoms. All of these helmets will accommodate one, but it usually requires sticking it to the helmet with a pad rather than using a clip. I hope this is what you meant, and hope this reply helps. Cheers, Tony
The customer feedback wasn't strong enough to justify a place when we worked out the rankings. It's picked up a little since and let's see how it goes through this year. Perhaps it'll make it to the list in 2025. Cheers, Tony
When you've, already had all the helmets in your hands + in front of the camera - why not showing them PROPERLY - incl. small details, like CHIN CURTAIN, ease of changing visors, headset adaptivity, shell sizes...... ??!! - because now, if we want to consider those, we have to do all the research.... Which is better? The latter seems to have a smaller angle of vision though based on pictures, is that so?
Out of the two, I think the closure is easier on the LS2. I have a Roof Boxxer, and I needed a size larger than my previous Boxer V8 (bit of a Roof fan!). Any clues how the Boxxer 2 sizing compares?
The fit of the Boxxer 2 Carbon is exactly the same (in a medium at least) as the previous Boxxer Carbon. Cheers, Tony
Which one do you think better? ls2 advant x or nolan n120-1? Thanks
The one that's better is the one that fits you better. In every other sense I'd be happy with either of those helmets. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop thank you for your answer 🙏🏻
I have the Scorpion… excellent helmet
As a serial Shark Evo buyer, I was disappointed to see they don't have a 22.06 version, especially as they pioneered the format. Do you know if there is a new model in the pipeline? I did email Shark, but they didn't reply. Great review, thanks. I think the LS2 will be my next buy.
We don't generally get advance notice like that on model information. We'll find out in the autumn with everyone else I'd expect, but I'd like to think the Shark Evo will be back. Cheers, Tony
@sportsbikeshop Thanks for taking the time to reply, Tony. I got my last two Evos from you, so I'll keep mine for now and check your website after summer. Fingers crossed!
Did Shark even release a new flip over helmet in 2024 ?
Not yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if something was shown later in the year for the 2025 range. Cheers, Tony
At the time I put this together the i100 wasn't rated highly enough by customers for inclusion. We have a full review here... th-cam.com/video/Xopm-Y2dODw/w-d-xo.html Shark Evo series has been discontinued. Cheers, Tony
The Shark is flimsy junk!
Good review, concise and to the point👍 Not a fan personally of flip-overs, though. Just a bit too clunky.
What helmet do you currently use
My job means there is virtually always something to wear for review. On the rare occasions I don't have something to review, and if I'm riding my own Yamaha FZ-1 Fazer rather than a 'work' bike, I wear a Shark Spartan GT Pro Carbon. Cheers, Tony
I miss information on the outer shell sizes and wich sizes they are matched to them. They are all pretty big so this would be very useful here.
Why haven't you included the Shark Evo?
It's been discontinued and stock levels are so low that it's not a realistic option any more. Cheers, Tony
What about the Shark evo 2
That's been discontinued so isn't available in 2024. Cheers, Tony
Flip over helmets are significantly wider than normal - especially ls2 advant
I have tried two of them and can confirm. They are wide. Not only visual. Stops me buying.
And heavier too.. But still very useful for city rides or work commute. I have shark evo gt and im thinking to try the Nolan N120-1
I have Airoh Rev 19, best helmet!
In your opinion, which helmet has the most room for your chin?
If memory serves (it's been a while) the Nolan N120-1 gave me the most chin room. Cheers, Tony
It is alway a bad idea to ride with open helmet. Even on parking spot.
Looks cool but remember that u have ony one face.
Why wasn't the HJC Reviewed ??
We have a full review of the HJC i100 (link follows), but it didn't make the cut for this list because the customer feedback wasn't strong enough. Cheers, Tony. i100 review: th-cam.com/video/Xopm-Y2dODw/w-d-xo.html
What about Phone ? Sorry my english
No problem. Do you mean connectivity with intercoms. All of these helmets will accommodate one, but it usually requires sticking it to the helmet with a pad rather than using a clip. I hope this is what you meant, and hope this reply helps. Cheers, Tony
No Bluetooth?
None have Bluetooth integrated, but some have official intercom options and all are compatible with universal Bluetooth intercoms. Cheers, Tony
No HJC i100? You guys missed a good one in this helmet.
The customer feedback wasn't strong enough to justify a place when we worked out the rankings. It's picked up a little since and let's see how it goes through this year. Perhaps it'll make it to the list in 2025. Cheers, Tony
Jesus they are expensive..
But they are BIG and HEAVY! So get something for your money LOL.
Only thing you've given - WEIGHT !
Sorry you feel disappointed. These are meant to be short videos that complement our more detailed review videos, which cover many of the details you'd like. We're working on publishing those for as many of these helmets as possible over the coming months. Cheers, Tony
God forbid you have to do any research yourself! Good grief… what next… trying them on to see if they fit… or do you have a butler with the same shaped head to do that too?
@@BrewBob22
Yes, I have a buttler‼️ Butt - before I send her to try helmets I need MORE INFO - to waist less time - smt, a "clever" one, like yoy, would never manage to understand 🤷🏻♂️
@@sandwaves5642 if you’re going to rant at me at least have the courtesy to learn how to spell properly first. Butler has only one ‘t’ and i think you’ll find its ‘waste’ less time rather than ‘waist’…. Oh, and it’s ’you’ not ‘yoy’…. But (with a single ‘t’ you’ll notice) well done for trying… it’s a B for effort, but a lowly F for accomplishment! I however have managed to assess which helmet suits me most appropriately without the need to rely ‘solely’ on someone else’s opinion… guess I must be ‘clever’ eh?
This system = additional noice. Not recomended.
I have a shark Evo es which which gets loud when closed and doesn’t lock into place unless you use some force. Looking to upgrade. I’m looking at the advant X carbon or the roof boxxer 2 carbon. Which is better? The latter seems to have a smaller angle of vision though based on pictures, is that so?
Out of the two, I think the closure is easier on the LS2. In terms of a more general choice, I think the LS2 is the more practical lid and the Roof's main attraction over the Advant X Carbon is the streetfighter styling. I don't recall peripheral vision being a problem with either helmet. I hope that helps you decide which is right for you. Cheers, Tony
