  • Flying with a baby? We flew from Manchester to Dubai with our 9 month old baby George and vlogged the entire experience. We share how to prepare for flying with a baby and what the actual flying experience is like with a baby. We used my maternity leave to achieve some of our travel goals and spent 5 months travelling around the world.

    Lovely video! I will be traveling overseas with my 9m old baby. Thanks for the tips! Did he nicely fit in the airplane bassinet or he exceeded a bit the allowed size and weight? Thank you.

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks for watching, so glad to hear the video helped you prepare 👍🏼 It was a tight squeeze but he did fit it! You can always measure your baby before and check online with the airline you are flying with what the size of their bassinet is. I’d keep the bassinet sport as you get extra leg room x

    Loving your videos! Very inspiring. Our baby is due next month and we're trying to work out when to go on our next trip, maybe to SE asia. Was there a reason you went when George was 9 months specifically or do you think going earlier is an option? We were thinking maybe xmas when our baby is just three months old but guess it depends on how the baby is, we know they are all different!

    • @GemmaGeorge

      Hi! Thank you for watching 😊 congratulations, are you excited about your new arrival? No reason, that we were meeting our family there who live in New Zealand. We actually flew to Singapore and Vietnam for a three week trip when George was 12 weeks old. I gave birth 10 weeks ago to another boy, and we just back part Malaysia. It was a little bit more stressful because Fred hadn’t been sleep trained, whereas with George, at 12 weeks old, he was sleeping through the night, and we knew when his nap time is well, which made it easier to coincide with our travel agenda and plans. 12 weeks is also a good time because the baby can regulate its temperature and they would’ve had their first set of jabs For them, a letter of protection against virus and diseases. Asia is super cheap and family friendly and you’ve got to find all the things you would in western society over here but for a fraction of the price. Hope that helps! Feel free to ask me any other questions 😊 x

    Hi Gemma, which car seat is that you've got there - Maxicosi, but which one please? Thanks!

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kellie, thanks for watching. Honestly, we don’t know! We got the seat as part of the pram set from Mothercare and it was second hand 🤷🏼‍♀️ we used it because it fit George’s size at the time. But nowadays, some airlines will only accept car seats that have a specific logo/mark on them to show that they are safe to fly. We upgraded to using a German brand and specially bought one that would work for camper vans (single seatbelts) as we rented a lot of camper and and needed something to put him in. The brand we used now is called, Koochi 👍🏼 hope that helps - anymore questions, please feel free to ask 😎❤️

    What is that crib that is attached to seat with belt / lock ? Where did you get that? Or is that from airline?

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Are you referring to the bassinet? Most airlines on long haul flights will have bassinets available for babies under 9 months or under a certain height. When booking your flights, look for the option to book a bassinet (free of charge) if the option isn’t there when booking, simply call or contact your airlines with you’re flight information and request one. 9 times out of 10 they will accommodate you if they can and it doesn’t cost a thing. Hope this helps - if you have any more questions let me know :)

    Hi. Ur video was really helpful thank you so much love. I have a question, am traveling with my baby who's nine months in a week time with the Turkish airlines, when i booked my tickets i didn't book the seat. Do u think they give u front so u can use the Bassinet am so worried

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for watching! I would contact your airline directly via email or phone and ask them if they have a bassinet/service. On the smaller planes they do not tend to offer them but the bigger ones/Longer flights will accommodate you if they have the option :)

    Great video ...you didn't mention what did you need legally in order to travel abroad with your new born ..did you need to give any form of documents proving his your son I e birth certificate or a baby passport or something that they needed during clearance ..I feel it's important to mention this for new parents who's traveling for the first time with there baby to ensure a less stressful flight without no disturbance from security or anything of that nature ...once again thank you

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need a passport for your baby - all countries require this. And it’s not as hard as you think to get your baby to look in the right direction for their picture!!!

  • @deesweden

    Thank you for sharing. About the hot water in a thermos, did you bring it with hot water from home or you bring it empty and refill it on board? About the food (Ella's) could we ask the flight attendant to warm it, or give to our baby as is? I will have my 19hrs flight and the 1st time with my 8mo baby, plus my 2 other child, and alone as adult 😑 stressful already.

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bring it with water in to the airport incase you need to feed before going through security and check in (you don’t want to get caught off guard). Then empty the water in the toilets before going through security. Once through security, head to the nearest restaurant or cafe and refil 👍🏼 or depending on how long the gap is between check in and flight, once on board the plane, ask a air hostess on the plane to fill it up and then you’re all set 👍🏼🥰 hope this helps, any more questions please feel free to ask. Safe travels ❤️

    Do you have to request the basenat in advance or is it always available if you book those seats.

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nasima, when booking your flights you should request a bassinet. If there isn’t the option online, we have called and emailed the airline (after booking our seats) and explained and requested a bassinet. In all the flights we have been on, over 30, we haven’t had any issues. Either booking or calling the airline with a reference number 👍🏼 hope this helps, any other questions, please feel free to ask 😊

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello. Wow, where are you flying to? When booking your flight, you need to select the 'bassinet' option with your flight company. If booking online and you are unable to find this option, give them a call and using your flight reference number you can request a bassinet for your flight. If you have any more questions let me know - hope this helps :)

    Car seat that you brought, is that free or you have to pay extra baggage?

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have never paid for the car seat or pram. When checking in they will ask you if you want to use the car seat on the flight (not sure how old your child is) if you don’t intend to use it on the flight, you simply check in with your luggage 👍🏼

    How heavy was your baby at this time? In a few months we will go to Dubai as well with our baby and than he will be 9 months too. I thought that he will never fit in this baby basket.

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Different airlines have different weight limits. We put George in a big blue IKEA bag and the used a hand held/pocket scales to see how much he weighed prior. For emirates the Mac weight is 11kg and height wise 75cm tall. George was right on the limit and it was one of the last flights we were able to use the bassinet. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, fire away 😊

    • @SarahKoubaa
      @SarahKoubaa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GemmaGeorge my baby is 3 months old and very tall. Maybe I have a little bit of luck and he will fit in there. But I think that he will be to big for this basket. Thank you

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SarahKoubaa Sounds like it. Luckily the box collapses and is attached to the wall so it's always worth trying and then the flight attendent can always put it back. Depending how long the flight it, if you are happy to carry your baby on your lap then you only have to pay 10% of 1 adult ticket price. For me, we managed a 10 hour flight with George on our laps and swore we would not do it again! It was hard as they are so heavy. Now he's 2.5 we pay for his seat and take his car seat which works great. Safe flight x

    At wat time we have to feed baby during takeoff or before takeoff

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the time of day and whether they are hungry. We would try and give baby George the bottle for take off and landing to help keep him calm, quiet and reduce ear popping pain. Even if your baby doesn’t drink it all, the Viking action in itself can help keep them calm as it’s familiar and comforting. Hope this helps. Any other questions, feel free to ask 😊
