- Acclaimed Scottish actor Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, the BBC reports.
In 1999, 60 Minutes profiled the "James Bond" star. Steve Kroft asked Connery about how he separated himself from the movie character he had become so famous for.

I just watched The Hunt for Red October for the first time today in memory of Sir Sean Connery. A legend that cannot ever be forgotten. RIP.
I kept thinking about him over the years hoping he’s doing ok, and healthy, missed seeing him in movies. I loved his 90s movies. RIP Sean you were a great actor and it saddens me to hear of your passing.
Had that same thought over the years too. Just recently watch the Last Crusade. Cried laughing.
He was a man not afraid to say what he thought, even if it didn't work with what everyone else want others to think just to be 'in'. What a legend. What a loss.

I don't. He has too many good movies and is highly entertaining in them for me to only think of him as James Bond. I recommend The Hill and The Offence for a change because I rarely hear people talking about them. The Hill is easier to watch and The Offence has probably his most unusual role.

What was even more weird, was that I thought about a day when Sean would be gone, just few days ago when ordering the Highlander 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray.

It’s sad that Connery shunned The Bond franchise in the later years of his career because it gave him the role that made him a legend. In 1996 when Cubby Broccoli was honor by the royal family after his death in London and at the 40th anniversary celebration of bond at the Bafta awards, Connery was the only member of the Bond family that refused to come to either celebration even though everyone else came. I know he had his problems with the producers Broccoli and Saltzman, but I would have thought he would let go of the animosity he had towards them in the latter years of his life and embrace the character. I hope he found peace and happiness in the last years of his life. RIP Sean, you will be missed. Fans of Connery should check these great films that he did. First of is Outland from 1981, second is The Hunt For Red October from 1990, and in my mind the best action thriller he did in his career, even better than Goldfinger and that is The Rock from 1996.
He has done a lot of other stuff, and done it well. Very talented actor. But even now he owns Bond and every other actor is rated 1 to 10 with 10 being Sean Connery. The man will be missed.

In Dr No, it was Terrance Young who moulded Connery into what we know as Bond, Connery puts it totally down to Young. On the other hand, Terrance Young always said the the three things that made Bond so successful was Sean Connery, Sean Connery and Sean Connery.

Since I only see the standard movies from Connery mentioned here, try The Hill, The Offence and The Man Who Would Be King. The Offence may not be his easiest movie but it will surprise you. The Hill is a great movie in my opinion that is not talked about enough and The Man Who Would Be King is highly entertaining (You have Sean Connery and Michael Caine, John Huston directing, Maurice Jarre providing the music and lots of humor, what more could you want?).

What he says at the very end, that despite the one -liners and the occasional comic touches, at the end of the day you had to believe Bond was a dangerous killer who could end a human life without blinking. That was the chief criticism of Roger Moore as Bond, that you never quite got that from him. That said, I think Moore's different interpretation of Bond probably was essential to the longevity of the franchise, tastes change and his lighter touch was undoubtedly better fitted to his era. I don't think Bond would have survived had he just copied Connery's take on the character. I like Moore as Bond (and I think he did play a tougher, more menacing Bond in "For Your Eyes Only" which was his best outing, IMHO). But I still vastly prefer Connery to any of the other actors to play the role. He had just the right combination of style, masculinity, looks, athleticism, gracefulness, and menace. RIP Sean Connery.

The movies are probably written by AI now too, soulless, vapid style-over-substance kitchen sink drama with bizarre weirdosfor characters.
