I spent a decade at Walmart and had dozens of managers over that time frame try to act cool, but they always failed miserably. They were so condescending and two-faced. Us associates were able to see right through them.

You forgot the fourth tip: Buy a skateboard, buy a Starbucks coffee and then skate into the office with your sunglasses and headphones on. Make sure everybody sees how cool you are and then you don't need the rest ;)

Be considerate, but tell them the rules and stand by it. Reminds me of Simon Sinek.

I apply the flexible and adaptable manager approach, but often feel this then becomes a problem and people assume its ok to just pop off to sort things out without coming and asking. Which impacts the business outcomes. its a fine balance, which can easy become a take, take, take culture if you don't set the balance and boundaries. I do need to do more of step 3 though. I have took that on board today.

Ya. As soon as people start to take advantage you gotta quickly bring them back. 🍻
