I was raised on the Pevensey Marshes East Sussex 60 years ago, and now I have lived in Poland for the last 22 years. I can remember 50 years ago getting up early in the mornings before school and going down to Normans Bay near Eastbourne with my father, where we would longline for cod on the sands, which I believe is banned now, but those were different days. Basically, we had two wooden stakes 6’ tall. My father would drive the wooden stakes into the sands with a sledgehammer 100 feet apart, tie a rope between them, and hang traces off the rope with a hooked lugworm. The amount of fish we would catch was nuts, sometimes taking home 200 lb of cod and dabs plus many other species. We used to take any fish we didn’t take to Horam, a village north of Estbourne as they paid a premium price for the fish, and the shop was owned by a man who lost his arm at Dunkirk; he was a jolly old man though. 😄
The key to any fishing that is effectively hunting, land or sea is patience. Do things properly first time round, take your time and you’ll bring home the fruits of your labour. My mate Rob who lives in Texas goes night time hog shooting as it’s the best time to hunt them and i asked him what’s the key and he simply said Patience. Matt. He also does a lot of blue crab pot fishing, they taste beautiful boiled with some corn on the cob, fresh onions and Old Bay spice😋 must admit I prefer our chunky brown crabs though more meat. Another great video guys, keep it up🙂👍
I watch a lot of fishing videos on TH-cam. This was a perfect fishing video. I love listening to your accent, I love your enthusiasm, I love how you don't use a lot of fancy expensive equipment and most of all I love how you used a plain simple inexpensive little boat to go out and catch some really great fish. The average viewer that doesn't have a lot of money can identify with this type of video and this type of fishing The cooking wasn't bad either.
Wish you an wonderful Sunday Smash and to your family as well ^^. I came back from a week fishing trip in Norway, so thats perfect to relax, sorting my fishing gear and have a nice cup of coffee ^^
That is so great to see you and Sam out on the open water doing what you love doing. Fishing and lobster pots . Hope you and Sam's families are safe and well.
Awesome fishing trip. You guys took a beating out there. On a day like this. I'll make a fish soup. It's wonderful really. Add avocado and lemon to your dish. Bam it's a game changer.
Awesome video Sam and Smash,Cant beleive just how sturdy the little boat is. Seems everybody is long lining these days with results in such short time you can see why..
Another good video. How about a catch and cook with the humble dog fish?? We get plagued in West Wales with them and mostly they go back alive. Be interesting to see you cook one or two 😊
@smashflshing This is brilliant, thanks so much. I never win anything. You have a great channel, been following you for three years. I just don’t know what telegram is😂😂😂
It must be so nice eatting all the fresh seafood I live in London an you don.t get it here. But i love going cornwall. To fish. Ave a good one smash. Cool vids.
Newbie to your channel, really enjoyed the content and the way you both go about doing what you obviously enjoy. Some lovely fish there lads, and good to see unwanted fish and crabs safely returned. Just subscribed and liked. Arthur, Whitley bay.
Great video as usual smash, just a word of warning if you're watching and going to try lemon on fish ,just put it on a tiny bit to try it first, I put it all over and didn't like it lol
Love the super dingy!😀Is it something wrong with your bigger boat since you have not used it latly?Love your videos and I'm looking forward to your next video already 😀
Quick question: why could you not use the dogfish as bait for the pots? Or do crabs & Larrys not like dogfish? Seems like nothing wants to eat a dogfish/Huss :) Re: Red Mullet cooking: try a light sprinkling of Old Bay, then pan fry in a little olive oil ... really nice. Also v nice with Romesco Sauce (google Delia's version as it's lovely) as Romesco has a little heat to it, and plenty of veggie flavour too. Also, don't bother seasoning the flour, season the fish instead, then gently dip/press into the flour - you'll get much better coverage and waste less seasoning, plus you can add other seasonings, like Old Bay, before adding the flour layer. Another cracking video, cheers to you both.
Just fish on plate is perfect , I think it makes you appreciate the taste more .. My choice would be monkfish , which again has a meaty texture... Happy days .😀
Oh wow what a great trip even though the weather wasn't on your side but you and Sam smashed it 🤘 The red mullet looked Amazeballs OMG but just a little weirded out that you keep on patting smash and eating and patting smash and eating without cleaning your hands.. 🤷 maybe you like pet hair too lol 👍
@@SMASHFISHING thanks for the reply are they no longer made? I fish up in north wales and I’d definitely buy one to replace my little seasafe 15 footer they look a million times better than what my sea safe does 🫣
I know you don't like Frenchies, (Froggies), but nevertheless I like your video, yes I look this with high respect and admiration ! Please keep it up! Good luck 😍😍! Greetings from Bordeaux / France
I tried a few times with squid an got 1 bream an a whip in 4 tries 😂 that’s why I went to salted rag it’s really tough when salted so it last a little while an catches really well
Same as "SMASH FISHING".... I also have found that nothing improves the taste of a bottle of Caribbean crush, like the scales n stink of a fresh sea bass. HHHMMmmmmmmm!!!!
So, I have to ask, if you like seafood with lemon juice all over it how do you actually taste the seafood? I love fish and all manner of sea critters broiled, sauteed, plain fried (olive oil and butter are a great plus) or steamed but sauces and citrus is for folks who do not really appreciate the taste of what they are eating. My wife eats all fried foods with ketchup because she just likes ketchup.
Do you find the bream better pot bait than doggies? A lot of people seem to use doggies, but maybe this is just because they have a lot of dead bycatch?
I’m still concerned I know you have the super dinghy but what about the boat before that the big one that was up on land next to your dads the big boat the one that you worked on

Jay deserves millions of subs because he is awesome.
That was great memory, thanks for sharing it.
Black bream is one of the best eating fish around and you use it for pot bait??
Wish you an wonderful Sunday Smash and to your family as well ^^.

Did you catch anything of note?
@@Steve-em4tb yeah some halibut, many cod and pollacks 😁.

Definitely have to try red mullet that's looks delicious
Excellent video Jay, shame you sold the bigger boat but the super dinghy looks cool 👍🏻
Love you guys' absolutely premium content.
That’s really not a bad size boat at all, you can put it in anywhere!
We go rite into the gullies with it , the good thing about the little super dingys you can go we’re the big boats can’t haha
Question - would you ever set up a long-line between two bobbers which had lobster crates attached at the bottom? If not, why?
Great video as usual smash, just a word of warning if you're watching and going to try lemon on fish ,just put it on a tiny bit to try it first, I put it all over and didn't like it lol
Do you have to de-scale the mullet? Thanks
Love the super dingy!😀Is it something wrong with your bigger boat since you have not used it latly?Love your videos and I'm looking forward to your next video already 😀
I sold the bigger boat as wasn’t happy with it, so I went back to my youth an got a super dingy
I haven’t been paying close enough attention! I love your videos but I didn’t know you became a father. Congratulations!!!!
Great stuff fella 👍👍 I appreciate how much time and effort you and Sam put in yet we don’t see… weather been atrocious lately….. hard core 💪💪👊👊
That was fun and the fish looks soooo good
Goo catch ! Can you not use the Dogfish for lobster pot bait ?
Great vid smash love the long lining
Terry is in love everyone 💕 congratulations Terry 👏
Watched my first video from SMASH FISHING this afternoon. I think I've watched about 10 so far and it's still only 8:30pm!
Awesome day
All those ‘doggies’ look like a small shark but do you eat them or keep them for the crab pot baits.
love the super dingy videos
Thanks mate

Jay do you use oi and butter, or oil and amarg. When cooking your fish?💕💕💕🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Kissey Kissey fish Kissey
looks delicious!
Jay what’s happened to the big boat your used to have??
Hey Mate… What is the temperature there? I think it’s quite cold.
Did someone say force 5-6 wind ? Really?
almost a mill pond!
Big red mullet… your having a laugh 😂😂
I long line trolled in Monterey bay California, my best was out of 275 hooks I pulled 273 fish, fish we call Widows 3 lbs each.
How long did you cook it for on a high heat?
Just fish on plate is perfect , I think it makes you appreciate the taste more .. My choice would be monkfish , which again has a meaty texture... Happy days .😀

Superstitious graffiti totally unnecessary here with nature
You return the dogfish and say you’ll use the bream for pot bait ! Bit crazy.
I’d love one of these super dinghy’s who is it that makes them? I haven’t seen any for sale on find a fishing boat ever
They were made locally, very hard to find a decent one as they sell so fast as there amazing little boats
@@SMASHFISHING thanks for the reply are they no longer made? I fish up in north wales and I’d definitely buy one to replace my little seasafe 15 footer they look a million times better than what my sea safe does 🫣
Decent sized doggies are not bad eating (used to be called rock salmon) but they are a real pain to skin.
I know you don't like Frenchies, (Froggies), but nevertheless I like your video, yes I look this with high respect and admiration ! Please keep it up! Good luck 😍😍! Greetings from Bordeaux / France
Is this the boat I saw you building? If so, very BADASS! Looks a little like the salmon and steelhead boats used here in Oregon USA
Yes I got the boat just as the hull and built it the way I needed haha lovely little boat
@@SMASHFISHING oh thanks for reply!
Do you ever cook the skeleton of the fish? In a case like red mullet I would cook it and suck around the bones. Sweetest part of the fish.
Well, youve got your lucky mascot with you. Its win, win.
Great video bro 👍 why are they called super dinghy or is it just a Guernsey thing ?
The dingys are made locally , it’s basilly a big dingy but super dingy sounds better 😂
@@SMASHFISHING lol cheers bro
Who is the bodybuilder who makes them?
Can't you use the dogfish for pot bait?
I love eating doggies and especially congers!
Buena pesca. Bendiciones muj buen video
Nice work
Wot happened with your other boat ?
I wonder if you could make a video fishing with your dad
This episode makes me think of what Archie Bunker said: Birds gotta fly & fish gotta fry.
Strips of squid or strip cuttles Jay for the long line
I tried a few times with squid an got 1 bream an a whip in 4 tries 😂 that’s why I went to salted rag it’s really tough when salted so it last a little while an catches really well
can you show how to fish bass on lures?
There’s over 40 bass videos on my channel mate🎣
Fun video
Hiya jay and Sam
Jay did you get parcel yet please 👌 love the dingy fishing 🎣 nothing wrong with that plenty lady crabs and long lining 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣👌👌👌
Hey mate I am going to my P.O. Box tomorrow 👍 hopfully it’s there
Same as "SMASH FISHING".... I also have found that nothing improves the taste of a bottle of Caribbean crush, like the scales n stink of a fresh sea bass. HHHMMmmmmmmm!!!!
what happened to the big boat
Hiya how are you? I was wondering if my son & I managed to Guernsey would you be interested in help us with fishing points and foraging spots ?
Definitely mate if you message me on instargam when your over il try point you in the rite direction 👍
So, I have to ask, if you like seafood with lemon juice all over it how do you actually taste the seafood? Have you tried pre baiting? And freezing and is it true bass loving boilies from carp fishing?
No I haven’t my freezer isn’t big enough lol
dogfish are actually good eating, with sweet white flesh and not too many bones.
I just payed £15 for rock and chips. Send the doggies down to London we will have them
Yeah unreal price of fish now.
What’s your spaniel called mate I got a 10 year old 1 he loves eating fish never tried red mullet thoe
@smashflshing love your shows mate what have I won ?
Do you find the bream better pot bait than doggies? A lot of people seem to use doggies, but maybe this is just because they have a lot of dead bycatch?
Yeah bream I tend to catch better but doggies will still catch
Black bream is even better than sea bass.
Is there no C+R law on bass in Gurnsey?...not having a go just asking
No your aloud to take 2 a day I believe , are laws are different to the uk
I have noticed that you rarely keep bass and was wondering what your reasoning for that
Laws on bass change so much we can’t be bothered with them to be honest , we do keep some but not a huge amount
Why not keep the lady crab, and freeze them for next time longlinning
You and sam 5 years ago done some quality night conga sessions
Noooo! The bream are great eating.
Great show Ace .
Sam!
I’m still concerned I know you have the super dinghy but what about the boat before that the big one that was up on land next to your dads the big boat the one that you worked on
I always keep my seafood simple, why spoil the flavour. That made me hungry
When you see the price of fish in france its for the wealthy
Sad day fishing, happy you guys thought that was worth it!
👏👏👍👍
Thumbs down
You say you can catch any species. If you catch a gazelle I'll buy you lunch.
Bloody hell for a change catch a catfish
"Don't wanna waste any of this fish" .... and then you filet it??? These are made to get fried whole in olive oil!
