I used to spend a bit of time on the Heugh and Middleton, green light in my youth and we always caught plenty of cod when we fished there. You didn't have far to walk from the car unlike when we fished the Blast beach at Seaham where we would gather some sea coal and have a blazing fire on the beach to keep warm through the night. We would spend the daytime taking apart the old houses and shops ready for demolition and then a few hours fishing, not realising that Hartlepool was the home of many of my ancestors that worked mainly in the shipyards .
