    Love this recipe, when handling the lye, did you mix the lye in a plastic measuring cup? I have a gas stove so would I use med heat? I have a stainless steel Emersion blender is a plastic blender better. I’m very nervous about the lye! I have many silicone molds that I use for baking, can I use them. Or would I make sure that the molds are oil free from baking with them, or would I want to buy brand new. The soap looks amazing.

    I do use sustainable palm oil from South America. I know a few do that. Ethical. I also stress to remember to not reuse kitchen utensils that have been used with lye for reuse as eating or food use. Great video. We need more like it. Thank You

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheryl Agreed regarding the reuse of kitchen utensils. However, I can't find any scientific source saying that a corrosive like Sodium hydroxide lingers in plastic or other materials. It just doesn't feel right to me.

    This is really helpful, thank you! I wonder if you would think about doing a starters list? I have been wanting to make soap for a year or so and have started building up the things I need but it would be so useful to know which are the most reasonably priced must haves with regard to essential oils and colours, those which can multitask, especially when money and space is a consideration!

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jennifer, there are a few things that could have caused crumbly soap bars. My guess is that you may have accidentally added too much lye or soaped at too low a temperature.

    Thank you for the video. I am new to this. Can you tell me what percent concentrate is your Sodium Hydroxide?

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can work that out the lye concentration for any soap recipe by dividing the amount of lye by the amount of water/liquid. If your question is about lye purity, I use food grade lye that's 100% sodium hydroxide.

      Different oils create a different lather in the bar. To change the lather you need to change the recipe altogether (not recommended for beginners). The oil that increases lather the most is coconut oil.

I’d also love to start adding ingredients (clays, teas, milks, etc but don’t understand when the additional ingredients change any of the % in oils and lye)
    Can you do a how to create your recipes and edit recipes you have changing ingredients with why’s on when changing this for that here’s why or how it changes the bases for the soaps etc 🙏🙏

      +MB Integrated Farming There's a lot of shea butter in the recipe so if you're going to soap at room temperature I'd keep a very close eye on things. Shea has a melting point of 89-100F so can start solidifying if it gets cooler than that.
