EXACTLY. It baffles me how I never see robotics engineers working on such an obvious solution, the possibilities are endless, the energy efficiency would be far greater, and balance would also be more reliable when the tip of the feet can slide to position itself. Why mimic nature when you can easily improve upon it? Makes me regret not going into robotics myself.
@@danfg7215unitree already has a version of their dog robot that has wheels instead of feet, but can still walk with them while taking advantage of their efficiency.
@@MelloCello7 Handle is interesting, but is considered "legacy" and somewhat abandoned by BD, they didn't exploit the wheels as something that could be used as feet as well to climb stairs or navigate rough terrain.
@@danfg7215 Though seemingly abandoned, Handle did all of those things and more: even going as far as clearing an entire flight of stairs in a single leap!
Agility wants legs but not hands. Sanctuary wants hands but not legs. This is why both of these companies will be surpassed by the ones that make both.
Legs alone have limitations. Having only two legs means more limitations. A combination of wheels and legs, reduces these restrictions. Three or more wheeled legs (roller-blade size, powered wheels) would result in a fast, stable base, with smooth movement, even when powered down. It could still climb stairs and work in a human space.

Unless you build robots, or own a company that uses them to make short-term cost savings. Eventually we will have to face the reality you are suggesting. It would involve a total rethink of our society, and it could be ugly!
Legs and wheels are important. A fusion of them would be amazing.
You havent seen Boston Dynamics Handle bot!
They can have both wheels and legs.
Like the Transformers.
Transform and roll out!
@@_JellyWalker RIGHT LOL
You are forgetting about BD's Handel bot
The leg design is for when they start make furry robots
The transhumanists avian furs are watching this company with great interest.

I think that these legs will probably end up with feathers.
Don't listen to others
Legs are the future
Better yet, 3 leg robot and a dangling counter balance in the center, like a tail of the cat, buy for the leaning tripod
@@HiberNAT : At least your three leg idea will be stable when powered down.
Legs might be the future for tables... not for robots.
@@e.v.k.3632 : If you are a Supermodel, legs are definitely the future! 😜
Why legs? For outdoor military robots, in the near future.
A good answer!
Looking forward to seeing your bots outdoors and in the home.
Summary: "We have that, and we use that"
Well said, future is promising.
The robot looks like it will say "My life for Auir!" And that is good enough for me👍🏻🤣
The best would be a feet with wheels. That way it could walk like a human when needed, and drive on the wheels when that is better.

Yo guys, I love the part in your video where you pulled that thang out the oven
That thing suspiciously looks like a GeForce card..
Feature Creep. Wheels are good enough for your primary use case. Legs come later when you expand into the final frontier of general labor robotics.

That use more power
@@benroberts8363Then use just wheels. Human gate is inefficient.
@@benroberts8363 : Did you mean legs or wheels use more power? I thought legs would use more.
to use on every terrain
They should add more legs
Now make it run!
So it can be security. 😂 😂 😂 😂
This robot is the fastest running two-legged robot I have seen.
Why a biped and not a quadraped?
Most of the pros here also apply to quadrapeds. The only con i see is the lower maneuverability
tank treads can climb stairs, and dont need to balance.
Tank threads robots can't use shoes
@@benroberts8363Why you need to use shoes.
Legs can climb faster. Legs are more versatile
And let's not forget, creeping up and scaring the heebie-jeebies out of people.
Cool
Not enough legs, must make it a leg eldritch abomination

The robots torso and head are on backwards
Have another look at it when it is crouching (1:00 minutes). When a human does that, their knees are in the way, and restrict arm movement.
Ok it's good but why seems slow?
It is capable of fast movement when required.
Now train them to drive trucks and voila - legs AND wheels.

Can I piggyback ride it?
We’ve all seen the cautionary tales about building these things but you all continue to ignore the warnings
Nobody asked who would buy the stuff if they were all laid off

Give them hoverboards.
Those are alien legs
Everyone's saying "Furry Legs"
Nah, those are Bird Legs.
They're Featheries.
would
I don't think I'm a fan of the raptor legs.
