    Good set of videos on your mk6 Chris.. fitted new suspension,wishbones,drop links, discs, calipers, driveshafts, track rod ends, and sorted out the stiff gear selector on my ST out on the street . Oh for a bloody garage with a heater and lift!!

    Thanks for posting this up, the specifics to doing this on the Fiesta are helpful. Pretty similar to replacing a CV boot. Also I want to say that I appreciate that zip tie on the inner CV boot haha, been there myself at least once!

    Good video.
    Its 2.3 litres in the gearbox and a better way to fill the box is to use an electric oil extractor in reverse... So you would put the oil extraction tube in the new gear oil bottle and the other end of the tube in the gearbox as the outlet and continue to fill until the new gear oil starts flowing out. Car has to be raised and level for accuracy.

    Good informative video that. I have the same car so i can understand what you're doing abit better. Was driving a few days ago and my engine temp was fine at an average speed. Second i went to slow down at lights etc, the needle rose to the top. Wondered why this was. Looked every where around the engine and in the exact spot you are repairing is where i have a leak. Guessing this is why i had the issues i had. Heres hoping anyway, doesnt seem too much to repair at a garage. Been thinking all week it could be a gasket etc but after watching this its relaxed my nerves!

    Great video one of the best explained, i fancy doing the job myself as I have got a bit of mechanical knowledge may have a go now but I will use a plastic hose and a funnel and fill from the top

  • @July-A7

    All good, but it's better to drain the gearbox before you take the drive shaft off.
    Also, refilling is done via a hose from above the engine bay using gravitation.
    When I did similar work I took only one bolt off from suspension to move the wheel away.

    I stand the sealed oil bottles in hot water for a few minutes before filling the box to help it flow quicker.

    My car is also leaking around that area, suspecting it might be that transmission oil seal....Thanks mate.

    • @ChrisManChannel
      @ChrisManChannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Simphiwe Nkabinde it's easy to see if it's the transmission seal. If you touch the area and there's is loads of oil it's a good chance it's the seal. Or if it's like mine the oil was able to pool underneath the drive shaft because of the design if the gear box. It's not a difficult thing to repair, but always be prepared for unforseen challengers like I faced. Also before you do drain the transmission make sure you have a method to refill it with oil.

  • @paulwalker9732
    @paulwalker9732 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When replacing the oil, the car needed to be level, not jacked up on one side. if not level, the oil level may be too high, or not high enough, most likely too high.

    The easiest way to put the gearbox oil back in is to run a pipe from the engine bay down straight into the filler hole put a funnel on the top ov the pipe pour your oil in let gravity do the work and there you have it simples dont f**ck about with a syringe or squeezing a bottle

    • @ChrisManChannel
      @ChrisManChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One litre is more than enough. You will probably only need 750ml but it is cheaper to buy 1l and it's safer to do that too. But it does depend on the car also.

    Good morning Chris , i want to ask you about the "ATF" Power steering fluid (ford fiesta MKV petrol 2006) ; If I open the bottle and do the change of the fluid ,could i continue to use the rest of the fluid another time ,or the rest of the fluide in the bottle will be useless???? (like the brake fluid)

    • @ChrisManChannel

      No power steering fluid is not hydroscopic as far as I'm aware. But hydraulic fluid isnt the same ATF tho. ATF is a gear oil

    Hi mate.are you 100%sure the seal goes spring towards gearbox?because my one leeks and spring faces out? Could this be the issue?cheers

    • @ChrisManChannel
      @ChrisManChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100%. I'm pretty sure that it's the oil in the space that helps seal the seal against the shaft. Plus if you look at the seal the dimensions are printed onto the side that faces out so it can be read while it's inplace.

    Question m8, I have a 08 plate mk6 fiesta. Clutch kit replaced at 65k its now on 66900. Thrust bearing has started rattling like a goodun' even though it was replaced with the clutch. Would this rattle be caused by lack of oil? Or would it be the input shaft? ...bugging me like hell. Car is my pride and joy. Clutch was fitted by a garage who I've always used, so I trust him with my car. Or would it be a faulty bearing? Or need more oil?

    • @ChrisManChannel
      @ChrisManChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't be the oil as the bearings where the clutch plate is. It could be a faulty bearing. But if the input shaft is knacked then I would have thought you would feel it. Sometimes if it isn't installed correctly it just rattles

    • @ChrisManChannel

      Yes. And changing it is exactly the same process apart from in order to remove the drivers side drive shaft you need to remove the two bolts on the drive shaft centre bearing. Apart from that everything is the same.

      Do you know when the fluid was last changed as it may just be needing drained and fresh fluid put in once new fluid in you turn the steering full lock left to right and this will push the fluid through the steering rack

      i bought my car in 2013 from some guy but i dont know last time he did the replacement of the fluid or if he did the replacement at all , what i do really know is that from 2013 to now (2018) i never replaced (drained) the fluid and also i never replaced the steering boot ...in fact it was 2 month ago that i was obliged to replace the steering boot because they were broken and leaking but the mechanic did not do a fluid raplacement..do you think i just need to drain the old fluid and that will resolve the "noise"??? (should i have replaced the fluid when i changed the steering boot????) thanks

    Chris did you get the job done or did it leak again ? I've just done my Mk1 focus with the same box and have the minutest of oil leak when I checked the other day , When i did my Orions a few years ago I put the seal all the way in and it leaked all out so I replaced it and put it flush and never had another problem with that one, I saw another video doing a seal on youtube and they went flush ,

    • @ChrisManChannel
      @ChrisManChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never had any problems with mine. Things like oil seals are are tricky. There's several ways it can go wrong and start leaking.
      It could be just you put it in a bit want so your getting seepage, the spring might have popped out and its not sealing or you could have bashed it up a bit either installing the seal or while installing the drive shift. A few other things it could be is either the box has a scratch or crud that is allowing the pile to get past or the drive shift has worn down so the seal isn't sealing around it properly.
      Or it could be the wrong size or just a dodgy seal. Not sure if there are other common sizes close to the one you fitted that could have got mixed up with.
      Like I said its a bit of a mine field bus as far as I'm aware they should always be fully seated in the housing.
      Hope you manage to solve it because I know how much of a ball ache that job is.
