Duel masters is the game that basically started the trigger system mechanic in card games. We wouldn't have vanguard, one piece, dragonball, digimon, wiss, bakugan, and many more games without this system. Other wise they play so different. I appreciate the game for having a fun system like that. Also the shield system as well for life makes it so that you can play the game anywhere without paper or a calculator to keep track of life.

I remember when Duel Masters first came out and I loved it. A few friends and I would play it a lot during the summer & then one day it just disappeared. I was always upset I never bought the second starter deck with the blue dragon that appeared in the season 2 intro. The games on GBA particularly the third has good card gameplay if you can get past the terrible art style

As someone who played the game only as a Child, not really speaking "good english" at the time and playing with fakt cards sold in tourist places here at the time,
What is the system you are talking about? I am genuinely interestee

@@maciejwawrzyn4674 when you take damage you flip over a card from the shield zone. You can choose to keep the card in your hand or activate it right now. "Holy awe" would allow you to tap all your opponents creatures down. So on your next turn you can swing for damage without worrying about blockers.

The artwork on these cards was the the main reason why I was infatuated with Dual Masters. Every color have their own artstyle, red with their grungy soldiers/mechs/dino mechs, green with their sickening trees, insects and gigantic beasts, blue with their alienoid water creatures, water computers and horror fishes, yellow with their technoangels and concepts personified and of course my favorite nightmares and mashed up beasts of black.
I hope whatever happened to DM after the original release, I hope they still keep their unique artstyle and design language

    • @AloKotso
      @AloKotso 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

Let me correct you there it's not colored cards they are called civilization cards and each civilization is denoted by a certain colour like red for fire , green for nature , black for darkness , blue for water and yellow for light . And in fire civilization it's not dino mech it's dragon-mech or robo-dragon and they are classified under "armored dragon" race or some in "volcano dragon" race there are no dinosaurs in fire civilization of duel masters , creatures in "rock beasts" race of the fire civilization comes close to resembling dinosaurs but not exactly because they are literally made of rock and firey hot lava/magma.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately DM didn't end up keeping this unique art style. After the sets that got English release, the art became more anime and there are more joke artworks. It's not bad per se and more of a matter of taste, but yeah they grew out of this Magic-like artstyle. It's more similar to Yugioh or Vanguard nowadays.

Wizards bought the rights for it and killed it in the West and then changed the design team. Def not a monopoly behavior. Imho, the game is still good, but the art ain't what it used to be. But it's the only game with decent cardstock still, and frankly, the best there ever will be, final fantasy notwithstanding. Kaijudo didn't work out because the show they made with it was terrible.

Having shield triggers is a good way to stay relaxed even when your opponents start breaking all your shields , true indeed that is until they pull up cards like bolmeteus who sends your shields directly to the graveyard (meaning can't use shield trigger)or cryptic totem that ignores shield triggers effects . And also there are some cards like emperor quazla , glena vuele etc that allows your opponent to gain a certain advantage if you use a shield trigger whenever they break your shields

@@nathanielleon4163 guess you played Pokemon first that's why , other wise if you watched the duel masters anime from the beginning like back in the early 2000s then you'll probably be fine with the shields mechanic . Duel Masters, Yu gi oh , magic the gathering, bakugan , cardfight vanguard etc were all card game based animes so they have their root and connection to their fans . Pokemon was actually a non-card game Anime and it's card game was adapted from other card games of course the game play mechanics differ ... But for me I never liked Pokemon card game though.... If you wanted to get a taste of what we missed out on after Duel Masters was discontinued here, there's an online version of the game released in 2020 called Duel Masters PLAY's. It's currently in the Revolution Saga block of the game, which encompasses the 2015-2016 era of the game, and they occasionally run events for older metagames. I've been playing it since 2022 and it's a great time getting familiar with all the new mechanics and characters from the universe. @zachmanf.7479 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

From my understanding, it stopped because the creator of Chaotic and 4Kids got into court because 4Kids wanted to own Chaotic. During this time, the game and the show couldn’t be produced. I’m 50% sure it ended when 4Kids went bankrupt like a decade later so any interest in the Chaotic brand was minimal at the time. 36:45 Answering that as someone who followed the advancements in JP from the US, the card showcases the first 3 eras featuring Shobu, his younger brother, Katta Kirifuda, for the Katta era of DM, and then Katta’s kid, Joe Kirifuda, for the Joe era. With the current era of DM being the Win era, focusing on a new protagonist who isn’t connected to the prior 3 mcs despite his surname. Which is an era of card design I very much vibe with, especially the new occult Darkness civilization race, Abyss, and the car themed Light civilization race of Supercar Dragons.

Though I get it, I've seen bionicle stuff get bought up and upcharged by sellers who price gate stuff that isn't that rare or sought after but no one else is selling it so your screwed. Might deserve a similarly cruel name as scalpers.
Edit: though plenty of items can gain enough high regard/fame/nostalgia value. There is a chance people are buying things to enjoy them. BROOOOO this is so AWESOME I loved this game growing up! Even though I only played a few “legit” by the rules games because I was like 6-7. But still this is a core memory for me, and something I love deeply. Really hammered home my love for physical games like card games. So freaking awesome to see it again. Thank you so much for doing this ❤️

I played this as a kid. Non of my friends played or wanted to play so I never played past the original set. I even had the card launcher thing. I convinced my father to yugioh and duel masters with me and he hated yugioh because it made no sense but he understood this game so I at least got to play a few times.

In Romania it was a huge hit. Literally our childhood cardgame along with yu gi oh. People loved the cartoon so much, that we bought hundreds of packs from the marketplace, most of them fakes and replicas. Thanks to this game I met my best friends, we formed the Dueling Master Temple, played everyday, traded and negotiated like Turkish vendors, stole from each other and even printed fake cards to build stronger decks. Awesome memories! 🎉

Take it from me, a random person on the internet. The gba duel masters games are a great way to get into the game. They have a comprehensive tutorial that takes like a minute, the game itself is very easy to get the hang of but has incredible strategic depth. It does have some grinding but is overall very fun if you like the game. It’s kinda like magic the gathering but every card is also a land and whenever you take damage you get an extra card.

The art in this game really is awesome, there was nothing else like it at the time for kids (unless you were a Magic kid I guess). The themes and unique powers of each color set made the game great, I'm glad to hear it didn't die in Japan. I had no idea wizards of the coast produced Duel Masters, makes sense why it's so Magic-like
