"If it's up there I'll give you the money myself" was one of Les' catchphrases on Family Fortunes.

I met Les at a club in Liverpool, England around 20 years ago. He had finished a play in the city and was with his manager. Had such a laugh with him, his manager left and got more drunk then shared a taxi with Les. Dropping him off at his sisters house outside the city, both a bit pissed. He said to me, “Had a great time Peter, we should do this again. When’s good for you?”
“Well I don’t really know!?” We both laughed and the taxi pulled away. The driver said was that Les Dennis, indeed it was mate.
Cracking fella Les, under appreciated I’ve always thought.

    I love your reactions, Chrissie.
They're so laid back and languid.
I absolutely loved that series and still knee-slap when watching this slice.
I wish you rainbows, lovely lady.

    Les in bed:
"I don't really know" is a catchphrase from an impression he used to do (of Mavis from Coronation Street), and "if it's up there I'll give you the money myself" is one of his catchphrases from Family Fortunes (aka Feud).
Just so you know it's not just something random!! 🙂

Les Dennis was a big TV star in the late 80s and early 90s. When he appeared in Extras he really was thought of as a bit 'washed up'. I think appearing on this and lampooning his public image helped him to be taken a bit more seriously and gained him a lot more work since the show went out.

He really played the self-deprecating celeb perfectly. Happy to hear he got more roles from this!

As others have mentioned, Les Dennis was really big on UK TV in the 70's/80's. He used to have his own comedy show as a double act with Dustin Gee, a sort of 2 ronnies thing, but sadly Dustin passed away in 1986, so Les went into being a Game Show host, then acting. He was married to Amanda Holden, of Britains Got Talent fame for a while, and he's still popular in the UK.Nice reaction.

its also the fact amanda was a few years younger than him and cheated on him with a guy from men behaving badly

@@firstnamelastname-bu1xm Yes, I'd forgotten that.Neil Morrison, I think.Looks like Ricky Gervaise span some of that into this episode,..fair play to Les for playing along with it. I could never stand the woman,..He's well rid of.

Unfortunately for Les, he got used as a stepping stone for Amanda Holden (A judge on Britain's Got Talent) to further her career. She left him for a slightly more successful actor, then dumped him as well when her profile was high enough to stand on her own.
He did host Family Fortunes (as it is over here) for around 10 years I think, and then did have short lived role in Coronation Street, before his character died of a heart attack.

Amazed you got this episode at all. Because of this episode, Les was offered much more acting roles, and that's why he was in Cronation Street for two years. Before this he was considered a rather naff light entertainer and quiz show host. This single episode changed his career. A very sad episode in some ways, that scene in the daughter's house has haunted me for years.

He was married to Amanda Holden, who ran off with a younger guy and massively pooped on Dennis in the press? Something like that?
I know his life kinda spectacularly fell apart - and not really any fault of his own other than bad timing and being an 80s relic when media was changing.

Ricky did another show called "Life's Too Short" and they did a special with Les and a couple other washed up celebs.... One of the funniest things and gave me respect for those guys taking the piss out of themselves. At the end talking about phone calls, it's one rule I have in a relationship and that's to phone and not text. Too much can get lost in text, but you cannot misinterpret a phone call. You tend to find you really want to speak to someone you like though, so it isn't like a big effort.

    • @chrissiereacts
      @chrissiereacts  วันที่ผ่านมา

Totally agree. For things like, I'll be there in 10 mins or even sending a cute *thinking of you* it's great. But full-blown conversations? I don't get it. It just draws it out so much like, this could have been 2 minute phone call instead of an hour of back and forth. And like you said, that's how a lot of miscommunication happens 💯

@@chrissiereacts I find texting quite dehumanizing, you will allow yourself to be cruel to someone in a text where having their voice and reply will be different. So never argue with someone over a text, you tend to find the middle ground over a phone call. It also brings up the importance of being with someone that has a nice voice. It may sound weird but some people can speak to you and it sets off this nice relaxing feeling in your brain. For me a good example would be Jonell Elliott, the voice of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider IV. I can listen to her ramble on for hours. However I could just be a weird male that talks a lot as all my ex's say to me it was my strength, always having something to talk about lol.... At least I have something...
