    I own a 1991 Voyager xii
It has done just over 13,000 miles and is just the most fabulous machine to ride. You need to 'own it' when you ride as it will eat you alive if you don't. The rewards are fabulous, and it has character by the bucket-load, especially the fantastic exhaust note. The fairing means I ride mine even in the cold English winter. People generally think it is a Gold-Wing, and are surprised when they realise their mistake as not many realise these bikes even exist. My cruise control still works, as does the radio. My 16 year old son loves riding pillion as he feels cosseted by the wrap-around seat. Don't think these machines are slow...THEY'RE NOT. Just listen to her sing as you open her up.
I purchased my Voyager 2 years ago from a guy who had owned it from almost new and had cherished it for many years, with regular oil changes etc. It now sits next to my Gen3 Hayabusa and for long journey's it is my 'go to' machine.
No way I will ever sell the big Kawasaki, it's rapidly become a part of me and my biking life. If anyone out there is thinking of getting one, I can highly recommend these truly wonderful machines...

It’s funny you mention the English winter. That’s my favorite kind of weather because I’d much prefer that over our southern US heat and humidity. My coworkers thought I was crazy taking the voyager to work in 19 Fahrenheit. I was just happy! It’s also my kid’s favorite bike to pillion on. Since it’s recently been registered as an antique, I’m going to continue to keep and maintain it as my other bike to compliment the dr650. My VROD, which will soon be reviewed, will be sold due to me liking the voyager so much.

@@ComfyDadShoes Only just seen your reply! I have put a few thousand on the Voyager this year. She gets attention wherever I take her, and has so far proven to be totally reliable. A 300+ mile trip is so easy to do thanks to the super comfortable seat, and the abundance of storage space means I can literally fit a tent in plus all the other bits needed for camping....

I have been in the market for my first used bike since I quit riding in 2000. It's been 20 years since I've owned bikes and now I have arthritis in my left knee, so I hope it won't prevent me from a stop light. This is the kind of bike I'm looking for. A reliable, Japanese cruiser with saddle cases, mirrors on the fairing and not on the bars, and a stereo system. Oh shit, I don't know how to work on bikes other than to replace broken parts. I was also looking at the Cavalcade, which is my number 1 choice, but they are few and far between now in 2023.

I owned a first year edition 1986 Voyager XII and a 1993. They put Goldwings to shame in so many ways. One of the greatest long distance touring bikes ever built and bomb proof. In a total of approx 45,000 miles combined on the pair the only thing I ever replaced was one fuel pump.

@@ComfyDadShoes Glad to hear that and easy fix if it ever goes bad. These things are bomb proof. Something to remember is that if you ever wash it or ride in the rain and all of a sudden...when you have the clutch in, idling, and go to drop it into 1st gear and engine stalls...the sidestand safety switch is either soaking wet or shorted out.

@@ComfyDadShoes Yes Sir my pleasure. Every single bike that has a sidestand safety interlock switch, has the switch located down by the stand mounting bracket and susceptible to moisture and corrosion. When they fail it can be intermittent but the tell-tale sign is bike idling...clutch in...engage any gear...start to leave clutch lever out...engine stalls. Sometimes the switch can be simply removed and dried and sprayed with kano or aero kroil and restored. No need to replace.

I can't definitively say that for certain, but I've heard from multiple sources that the 1200cc generations of both perform nearly identically. The Voyager having slightly less amenities, less weight, better acceleration, better handling. At it's time it was the fastest in the class. For some strange reason, probably budgeting, they removed the EFI that came with earlier models!
