Talking of in-ear pieces, I heard in an interview that on their Live Aid performance, they couldn’t actually hear each other. They had to rely on experience & a week’s worth of rehearsing. Apparently Roger didn’t even know how well it was going until he looked up near the end and saw the audience swaying like a field of wheat. And thought, oh it’s not gone too badly then😂
This voice, this band....you never get it again......worlds best band, then and now... I was there.. and as 59, its my best time of my life....really....
brians electric guitar which he made with his dad was strung with euckerlayi strings and he used a sixpence as a plectrum. Fred wrote this song about his fiencee Mary Austin who was his life long friend and he left half his fortune to her when he died.
For some great guitar playing, you should check out White Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Freddie and Brian do a magical instrumental during the performance.
For a great example of how tight the band is, when you do Somebody to Love, live at Montreal. Watch closely when Freddie gets up from the piano the second time. As he walks to the front of the stage, you see him watch Brian walking towards the back, apparently to fix something on his guitar. Freddie, Roger and John improvise with the audience, you see the shot expand with John slapping his bass, Freddie looks back sees Brian coming back to the front of the stage, and Freddie picks up to continue the song. This all goes on with no one missing a beat.
As a musician I really appreciate your nice reactions, thank you. Here some suggestions of live performances: -Save Me, Montreal 1981 -Somebody to Love, Montreal 1981 -Dragon Attack, Milton Keynes, 1982 -White Queen, Hammersmith Odeon, 1975. -Who Wants to Live Forever, Budapest 1986. -Stone Cold Crazy, Rainbow 1974 -Fat Bottomed Girls, Milton Keynes 1982
The audience loved and learned "Love of My Life" from the studio version. It is too beautiful to ignore. Queen, masterfully, stripped it down to a simple, personal performance. If you chose to react to the original, I think you'll be impressed. Thanks.
You need to watch Love of My Life live in Rio. 500,000 non English speaking people singing this song back to Freddie and Brian. Freddie was overcome by emotion because the band didn’t think the audience would understand them. They were even chanting Brian’s name.
Yes, 'Dangerously Comfortable' is an apt adage to describe Freddie's performance style. ❤Thank God dear Freddie used his inimitable powers for good.....Otherwise the World would have been in big big trouble.
Queen were multi instrumentalist. Freddie played piano, guitar, tambourine and the audience darling ( his words!) John plays bass, acoustic guitar, piano and on one occasion the double bass!. Brian plays guitar, piano, ukulele, banjo and on one track the harp! And Roger beats them all playing drums, rhythm guitar, bass, piano, and can get a tune/rhythm out of a stylophone, thimble and kazoo!!😂 In addition, Freddie had a phenomenal voice and Brian and Roger have great voices too. They all wrote no.1 singles and are therefore all in the Song Writers Hall of Fame as individuals. Freddie had piano lessons but only up to grade 4, and as far as I know, all the others were self-taught. Multi instrumentalist equals multi talented and thats without discussing their diplomas, degrees and PhD. Queen the greatest
I am loving your reactions to Queen. White Queen live, Save Me live, Dragon Attack live, and the lyric video for Death On Two Legs is a must. Freddie shows his pissed off side in that one. I saw Queen live in the 70s, and they truly were great.
Great reaction . Now let's look at them way back in 1974, live at the rainbow and listen/watch Liar written by Freddie years before Queen. Every member has their own time to shine. This band always had rehearsals regularly and long sound checks the day of the concert. They used eye to eye contact between each other when performing. also observe that when finishing a song Freddie will wait until all their eyes are on him before signalling stop. When Freddie is playing the piano John the bass player is always close by this allowed Freddie to keep with the rhythm. Great band I've been a fan since their formation,we the Queenie's will guide and support you on your journey. One more thing the band never forget that it was the fans who made them, they never took the fans for granted, they aimed always that fans left the concert feeling that they were apart of the experience and not silent observers xx
Freddie and Brian performed this wonderful piece right at the close Live Aid, that's why it's night as opposed to the daytime set. Beautiful wonderful Freddie, gone way too soon.
No musician drinks beer while singing… would just cause belching. Freddie drank honey for his throat mixed in tea. Queenies know everything about Queen ( trust me 😂✌🏼)
21:06 "I haven't run in any copyright issues yet" - you won't get copyright issues from Queen, because they're too smart to not appreciate the free advertising they get through social media content like reaction videos. 🙂🙂 You only have to be careful with the live aid content, because live aid has different copyright owners than Queen.
brian May singing Too Much Love Can Kill you video, Only the good die young, video, Im in love with my car sung and written by Roger the Drummer. There are approx 116 songs and 16 albums by Queen, keep digging, you wont be sorry.
check out the official video of Who Wants to Live for Ever. Its so beautiful, and also singing with Monserrat Caballie the song Barcellona which he wrote for the Spanish Olympics.
Great insight, great reaction. New subscriber here. Check out their performance at Hyde Park, You take My Breath Away, and then for a great doubleheader add on the studio version. Both are beautiful and quite different, you will love them
Thank you Will for an excellent reaction!! You just earned another subscriber... in hopes of seeing more Queen... never get enough of MY BOYS! Sorry, been a fan of Queen since '74 when I first heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the radio at work... and they seem to me to be 'family'... ANY song of theirs is a masterpiece and well worth listening to, such brilliance in musicianship and artistry is pure genius... not to mention the phenomenal songwriting... totally amazing... LEGENDS ONE AND ALL. .. Blessings.
Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: FUN FACTS FIRST: The kisses are for his Mom who was watching him on Television. MATTER OF FACTS: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THIS THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May, is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! They made out of an old cabinet his mother was going to throw awayThe included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music! LAST INTERESTING INFO: When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. When he kicks his legs backwards that is getting over all the cables, that are on the Stage. TV Cameras were not cordless back in the day!! And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. (It is really all 1 Song!)
One of the most informative reviews, excellent. Thank you for sharing your first hand knowledge. Very enjoyable. And yes, more Queen please. There are close to 200 videos available, including concerts, studio, and indepth " the making of the songs and videos"

I don't think Sir Dr. Brian May makes mistakes. He's an astro physicist and has worked with Nasa. Built his guitar, The Red Special, from things around the house with his father when he was 17. The only time I think Brian was nervous was when he played "God Save The Queen" on top of Buckingham Palace. He said he felt sick, afraid he would make a mistake. He didn't.
Hi! There are so many songs, but my favorite is the official video of Bohemian Rhapsody, since 1975 my fave. But I love almost all their catalog, which is huge. Somebody to Love in 1981, Montreal, is a huge ask and reacted to performance, you wont be sorry, One Vision--I love the official video, but they do it great live-Save Me, 1981, Montreal, White Queen (early Queen ^_^) I think 1976, Milton Keynes, oh….You Take My Breath Away, live, 1976….❤❤. Almost anything live is amazing, Freddie and Brian and Roger and John were always “tight”…perfectionists. And so talented….Brian was the second one who got the most attention besides Freddie. Everyone knows and loves his guitar playing and his voice. Roger--famous falsetto and drums, love them. John…very quiet, but quite important overall. Great bass lines. And they all wrote songs, it’s why there’s such a great diversity in their catalog. I and so many more miss them!! And RIP Freddie--we still love you. Never forgotten.❤❤❤❤❤
