The bass player is Neil Fairclough who has been playing with them since John Deacon left the band after Freddie died. I have seen Queen with Adam Lambert 6 times in concert. It is an amazing 2+ hour show from start to finish, Roger Taylor and Brian May still play the way they always did, it is amazing to witness. What Adam Lambert brings to Queen, brings all kinds of newer generations to hear Queen who wouldn't have otherwise done it. And, absolutely NO BACKING TRACKS, the harmonies with which they sing are all live too!!

He’s been with Queen since 2012. Roger said in a documentary, and I quote ‘ I’ve never heard it sung like this, that’s special ‘

I am an OLD Queen fan. I have seen them with Freddie several times and I have to say I love this new era. I have seen them with Adam and they are still amazing and no it is not Freddie but it is just as good if not better. Their I said it. I love, love that Roger and Brian can keep this music alive and introduce it to new generations. This last tour we saw so many generations of audience members from us oldesters to little kids. It was a fun time for all. No backing tracks.....just totally live. Neil Fairclough is the base player he plays with Spikes band as well.

I agree, I’m old enough to have seen them with Freddie and 7 times with Adam, and it’s great that they can keep their legacy alive. I was at the IOW festival for this performance and it was mesmerising. A lot of the audience didn’t know Adam and he quickly had them in the palm of his hand. The audience was huge 50,000ish - we couldn’t move for 10-15 minutes at the end. I was also there the next year and we walked away from Arcade Fire.

He never thought of replacing Freddie. He knew he was not Freddie and he didn't have to be. Queen was very lucky to have Adam to carry on the musical legacy and attract more new blood. And for Adam, meeting Queen had a significant positive impact on his musical development. He also changed his singing technique. For more than twelve years, QAL has toured almost 300 shows, and every show is of extremely high quality. This is a very crazy and amazing achievement. Adam Lambert has been bringing unparalleled excitement to the world since the American Idol period. Please consider watching his performance on American Idol, or his other personal live performances, and his performances with Queen. None of them disappoints. I was stunned when I found out that there is such an outstanding musical artist who is far from getting the fame he deserves. In my country, there is a proverb that says that a pearl is covered in dust. He is such a rare treasure in my opinion, and I really hope that more people can calm down, put aside their prejudices, and feel such excellent and pure singing.

Adam is better than Freddie. Ive been to 2 Adam live concerts and he is beyond amazing, never goes off pitch ever, soul and emotion in every song, not only a top notch vocalist but also a top notch performer and entertainer. In all of these official concert videos they have already applied post production and pitch correction so everyone sounded good in them but Adam doesnt need of those. His live is 100% perfect. The crazy thing is he hit al the highs effortlessly. And yes Adam started on theater and Simon Cowell at American Idol gave him the thumbs down saying that he isnt suited for the competition. Simon has to take back his words later.

Cool. Thanks I wanted to listen to more live John tracks. I am more a drum and guitar focus and really notice the difference when Brian and Roger play as opposed to when others attempt queen songs. I normally watch new videos and listen with old recordings so I guess I am more familiar with Brian and Roger live than John. (I can't really listen to any queen songs that isn't Brian and Roger. I find it interesting to watch Adam when he plays a queen song with his bands solo vs with queen. But I don't really listen and don't return like I do with his solo works and qal videos. His last band (with Eric and Blake and poliana) I did like though and Adam seemed relaxed. Previous bands not so. But I want to start noticing the bass more.

Adam Lambert is amazing. Another GOAT is John Farnham (Australian) who Freddie Mercury wanted to replace him, but John didn't want to live anywhere than Australia, his family coming first. Anything performed LIVE by John Farnham is brilliant. You would be blown away to see John's (slower) version of The Beatles' Help; performed at the Chain Reaction concert, recorded on 14th (or 15th) December, 1990 at Flinders Park Tennis Stadium concert. There are too many of his performances to list; anything by John will not disappoint, he always delivers over and above. The Aussies will flock to your channel to see 'Our John'....

Re guitar hasn't changed, I'm not a guitarist but I would think if you're a shredder and have a fast finger playing style in your younger years, your speed would reduce with age. May's overlays in the studio were complicated but based on simple melodies, his 4 part delay in some solo sections also gave the illusion of speed.
I think he's still able to do it because he wrote simple melodies, as far as the sound goes, it's the same unique guitar himself and his Dad built.
However I am a singer, and I thought Lambert was ok, yes he's hitting the high notes perfectly and holding them longer than Freddie could (past his partying 30's). I just think he brings the wrong 'theatrical' vibe.
Lambert's theatrical training is more Broadway 'Musical', it can be heard in his vocal 'ad-libs' which jars it for me personally. I seen Mercury twice in his prime, 3 hr sets, unreal. His vocal training was his own, natural, more Opera than musical but heavily based on rock. I believe Mercury when he's singing the lyrics.

Why should the other guys in Queen give up their legacies and not continue to play Queen music because Freddie died in 1991? The rest of the guys were still quite young. I would be willing to bet that Freddie would want them to keep Queen alive. Of course, they'd need a singer and Adam is a great fit without trying to be Freddie at all. He never could be, and he knows it. Instead of people dismissing Adam, they should be grateful to still have "Queen" playing all of these years.

If we get the chance to go again I would watch a few previous qal concerts on TH-cam before I went or some live solo Adam stuff to get his character/way of performing in mind. I can seperate the two and like the difference but I never saw Freddie live. Just footage of live events. I would of hated it to be similar though. PS not Adam singing queen solo....you can tell how good queen is when you attempt to listen to something without Brian and Roger and I miss all the vocal harmonies. I would have gone to listen to his own work.
I guess it depends on what you focus on at a concert too. I can spend half a song watching the guitarist or the drummer and interactions between band members and sometimes the side stage for preparations.

    • @juliep3508

The thing I found disconcerting when I went to see QAL was the visuals. I always choose where I would get the best sound or best view of a side stage. So with ticket prices I choose cheaper and went further away from stage and prioritized sound. But I was still close enough to almost see enough of the whole stage to watch the stage and not the footage on the screens. But then in bits I wanted to watch facial expressions so I then got to watching screens and it took the focus off the band and was like it was directing what i should be watching. And it wasn't what I would normally watch.

I honestly appreciate Adam’s talent as a vocalist, and I enjoy watching/listening to him perform his OWN material… but, I will NEVER choose listening to anyone OTHER than Freddie, sing Queen’s music.🙏
(This is just my own personal preference and feeling; I’m not in-any-way, putting down other people’s choices or what makes them happy.)
The only thing that “concerns” me, is if reactors start only watching the covers of Queen’s songs, INSTEAD of Freddie’s renditions. (Which… Adam’s performances are a cover; as are Marc Martel’s; as are ANYONE else’s, other than Freddie.)
Due to this “concern”, I feel I need to UNsubscribe to channels if they play “non-Freddie” vocalists of Queen songs, over/instead-of the original.

You are very fortunate, then, to have so many performance videos and interviews, plus your own discography to watch/listen to. That way, you never have to watch anybody else perform these songs. However, QAL has exposed new generations of fans to the wonderful music of Queen, and millions of happy concert goers were able to experience this music live. As such, many of them will probably find Queen (with Freddie) performances which they might have otherwise missed.
