Oh wow, just got served this and it was a delightful surprise. I've had a long week and this made my day. I love your review style and I'm so glad you enjoyed the series. Thanks so much for checking it out! (Also that intro goes hard)
New vid! Love how the Book guy articulates his thoughts through tiny glimpses of his notes, never losing tempo through the process. This makes the video feel like a passionate lecture, unlike other youtubers where the editing fills the gaps. Thank you!
I've been admiring the Alcatraz books on your shelf for several videos now. Any chance of a review of those? [I'd particularly be interested/excited to hear your thoughts on the last two books, as I'm still not sure how I feel about them.] Or how about a bookshelf tour video? 😀
@kurathchibicrystalkitty5146 thanks! Yeah I'm hoping to cover Alcatraz in March. Keen to do 'Middle-Grade March'. 😁 And yes did a book tour video! Called 'behind the scenes and new library tour'.
Youve touched on the topic of representation in most, if not all reviews ive watched so far, and i wonder if the series where there are is no lgbt representation mentioned, could just be because its not really the point of the story? Some of the characters could have been lgbt, but it wasnt important for the reader to know, or, since the book is in 1st person, the main character didnt notice/didnt care enough to make mental note of it or speak about it. Same as in real life, if you arent close to someone, so they dont tell you about their personal life, or you dont happen to see them with their partner, often you wouldnt know they are lgbt, right?
This is a fair question, I respect it a lot. ❤ My thoughts are that queer people exist everywhere. If you don't see them, it's often because they're scared. That's why representation is so important. It creates a word where people are safe and respected. And it's not just about making them feel nice. Queer people often face real, practical threats to their safety and their human rights. Even small mentions of sexuality can have a huge impact. So I get that on reality, queer people could be in hiding. And it's OK to reflect that reality in a story. But I think it's better to reflect the reality we WANT to create instead.
@@cronkthebookguy I get that, but at the same time i dont feel we should be entitled to know who some of the characters are attracted to or whats in their pants. I know these things about people i care about, sometimes i know it about acquaintances if they happen to feel comfortable talking about their personal life (this goes about both lgbt and straight people, keeping your private life private is normal imho), but i certainly dont know it about everyone in my life, as its none of my business. I imagine if i was helping a guy get his soul back, unless my partner is also the part of the adventure, or i encounter a romantic/sexual interest on that quest, i dont think id ever mention my sexuality in that setting. Why would I?
@cronkthebookguy you'd be the BEST person to sell more people on the series. The way you structure your videos is perfect for it. More people on TH-cam need to read the series damn it!
I get it. Depressing everywhere. But a lot of people like me are gonna keep making positive and beautiful art, and advocate for human rights every chance we get. Don't give up. You are not alone.

Such an underrated series! I finished book 4 a few weeks ago and I think about it often. So good!
Never heard of it, but I've now added it to my wishlist. It sounds right up my alley, accounting references and all.
Huh, so the accounting terms really resonated with you? That's great! 😁
