      Unicorn Galexey brushing your teeth right before you go to sleep is the most important time but if you have braces brushing correctly after every meal will insure you have clean teeth all day long as accumulated food right at the places you don’t brush will cause demineralization over your treatment duration...brushing in the morning before having breakfast is mainly for fresh breath as you might have not washed every little place the night before and that might cause a bad breath

    • @AaaaNinja
      @AaaaNinja 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@IamNi.T Sorry, I blanked on something important when typing that. If there's a gap that's too wide between teeth even flossing doesn't work. My invisalign created some gaps in the back of mine (temporarily). You have braces? I get between the gaps with those dental picks you can get at the store that look like they have tiny pipecleaners on the end. They come in different thicknesses. If you want to try that start with the tight kind and move up if needed, because it's easy to overestimate how big the gap actually is and accidentally get one that's too big. My dentist told me about them at my last cleaning. There's also a kind that has a kind of toothed rubber on the end, he said you can get those at Costco to save money. You can just also use a waterpick which is cheaper in the long run and is also good for gum health because it can also be used to clean there.

    So how does this mesh with Invisalign? Waiting for 30 minutes every time would make it hard to reach the recommended wear time.
    Is using a waterpik really enough when you are risking trapping stuff in your trays by not brushing?
    I think I'll be able to avoid the super acidic stuff for the time of my treatment to avoid the issue altogether, but how bad are coffee or tomato sauce?

    There are pros and cons to all options, including brushing before, right after, and 30 minutes after. The downside to waiting 30 minutes is the bad bacteria in your mouth will ravage your teeth until the minerals go back in place. After all my research, brushing right after you eat, lightly, with a non-abrasive toothpaste is the most ideal. The fluoride in the toothpaste will help the minerals settle down faster and stronger. Rinsing with a high-fluoride mouthwash can also help. Brushing before you eat gives plaque and bacteria more room to form and waiting 30 minutes also gives bacteria more room to form. There really is no winning lol. It depends on your diet too. But brushing right after you eat can be totally safe under the right conditions with the right products.

    I brush my teeth when I wake up, before I go to sleep, and wait about an hour after eating to brush throughout the day because I don't want to wear down my enamel. Usually about 3 times a day

    completely unrelated but: I’m getting braces next month and I’m pretty mad at my ex dentist. The dentist didn’t bring up any issues about a tooth in my cross bite that has recently become mobile. Worst case scenario, I’ll have to have it removed and close the gap. Thanks for the video bc I didn’t know when you should brush them.

    since i've had braces, i brush my teeth without paste after each meal (except in the morning and before I go to bed) does brushing your teeth right after each meal without paste have the same effect as to what you mentioned in the video?

    Would a mouth rinse right after eating help boost the ph back up to be able to brush sooner?

    • @DrGregAsatrian
      @DrGregAsatrian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      depends on the mouth rinse but yes this should help! I'd still give it a few minutes afterwards though to allow for the minerals to reabsorb :) ! Great question

    • @Zoe.1010
      @Zoe.1010 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think that your gums will overgrow your braces. It could be a reaction to the metal in your mouth or poor hygiene. I would recommend you buying a waterpick! It massages your gums

    Great & informative video, greetings from Europe. I'd have one question (I'm sry, my english is not the best)
    Some people say that you should not rinse your mouth with water AFTER you've brushed your teeth. So the "fluoride" stays in your mouth.
    To be honest I don't believe that?
    And another question: How often do you recommend using mouthwash? Is it something that people should do on daily basis? Because I've heard that it isn't good for your teeth / it would get more yellow after a period of time?
    It would be interesting to see what you have to say about those "rumors" :D

    How does this work for Invisalign? We need to have aligners in 22 hours out of the day. Between meals and snacks it may take 2 hours to eat. We can’t risk that time to wait 20 minutes after eating before we brush and floss. Any tips for that?

    When I was younger, I heard that you should brush before you eat.
    I'm in my 40's now, I still stick by it.
    I just rinse with water afterwards.
    And I carry a small portable toothpaste and foldable toothbrush sometimes, and floss pickers.
