Thank you very much for an informative, very well explained video. I need to do exactly this job on my Romany, so will be ordering a new cable shortly. In my case, the plastic outer cable actually pushed out of the fitting you show at the end of the video, and I did recognise the fitting type (I have worked in factories with pneumatically operated machines), my cursory effort earlier today failed to get the fitting to grip the pipe. I suspect it might be a bit gummed up, and need freeing, as you explained. Also, I suspect with a new (unkinked) cable, there will be much less force on the outer, and it will be gripped better. I will check the security of this fitting before feeding the new cable through. If I see on your website that this fitting can also be replaced, I might do that as well to make sure. One other question - are there some gaskets to shim out the skeg to reduce play in the box? I am not sure if the amount of movement I am seeing on mine is "nominal".
Thanks again, and Happy New Year!

      Thanks for the comment.
We do not sell anything for the purpose of shimming the skeg box. The box is intentionally large as this prevents sand and grit from jamming the box. The movement is normal. You could glue in a shim as you describe but this is likely to increase jamming and it won't give you any improved performance.
We do sell a new slider assembly. shop.seakayakinguk.co.uk/collections/skeg-parts/products/replacement-skeg-slider-bar
