Some say it is easy to grow. I have had two, both of which had leaves start from white to brown to dead. A skilled gardener friend has also given up on them. Today, I bought one on clearance at Wal-Mart for $5, which looks viable, for one more try. I have many varieties of Philodendrons, but this is the most difficult I have tried to grow.
Hi Amal. Thanks for the question. Absolutely pon or water will work great. I suggest you to use pon such as Lechuza pon as pon is great to grow Philodendron in. You can also grow it in water but then you need to change the water frequently and I would also suggest using an air pump. Growing in water should not be a long-term solution in most cases. Although done right it would be possible.

Mosty, the reason for yellow leaves is overwatering.
