Agree completely. I've just bought a two-year-old Mk 4 Focus and the look of the thing was a big factor. I'd probably never have considered a Focus until this new update. Isn't it weird how subjective these things are?

idk about that, i have the 1.5 st line and although i love it, the interior materials and infotainment system are just a tad nicer in the golf
the wait has been well worth it. the new focus is spectacular.

I saw one in Lakeside a couple of weeks ago, it was an estate and the rear end still had it's cladding over it but in person and in titanium trim that mouth is absolutely huge! It looks even worse when the horizontal slats are making it seem wider.

I currently have a ST Line on a 48 hr test drive and it’s styling works for me in fact, it’s actually better in the metal and the colour white does a great job highlighting its shape. The interior is lovely and sporty with good materials. The boot is very usable with easy access. It’s a very nice drive and compliant on British roads. It has gone top of list to buy. I still have a few more cars to test drive before making a final decision like Honda Civic, Kia Ceed, Golf etc. I have tested the Astra and that sits middle of my to buy list.

It looks brilliant. I'm not a massive fan of older Focus designs, they remind me of an older woman's boot sale car. But this looks really nice. Much nicer than the Golf which - in typical Volkswagen fashion - hasn't changed its looks for the best part of 30 years. Only thing I dislike is the electronic handbrake.
Yes it nice to be able to swing the car around on the hand brake, fun of the past!
Careful ! How reliable are the ecoboost engines ?
I really enjoy my 2017 Ford Focus. It's simple enough to keep price down. Drives nice handles with ease. If your looking economic in coast full coast are low as well. In a world where every car cost is very high. Ford offer's value for cost point.

Joe Oldfield depends what you want from a car! Focus exceeds in driving, but you can’t beat Audi when it comes to cabin quality. I would say the Focus is a bit more modern though in terms of exterior styling, the A3 is due an upgrade now.
I hope they already address the speed sensor issue.
I had a test drive in a Focus St 125ps today, I was very impressed. The car handled well and it was very responsive. As I do not want the 125ps version as it has a torsion beam rear suspension same as the Fiesta, I shall go for the 1500 cc 3 Cylinder Dragon engine which has the link rear suspension. It's now just a question of haggling about money and discounts.
when is the best moment to ask for discounts? I asked at the Ford and Opel dealer and they said its fixed prices;p

The golf is so boring why does everyone use that as a bench mark for premium quality. They've barely changed the interior in 3 decades.... Not keen on the exterior of this focus but the interior is a huge improvement.
3 decades? that is a bit exaggerating.
That adaptive cruise stop and start only works on the automatic version (Adaptive 2)....

The rear is close to the rear of the Fiat Tipo that I love so much ..

In the UK it’s available on the estate version, but not the hatchback.

Sry, but the Focus is getting in that direction aswell. They cater to people who actually buy these cars, and they want it to be more like the Golf.
How is it compared to the MINI Clubman?
Different! Focus is comfier and more fun to drive. Clubman might appeal to more fashion conscious motorists.
Just worked out the price of this car against my New Civic SR and to get this Focus with less spec than my Civic is over £3000 more !

Idk i think it looks good. Rear looks a bit outdated tho. My mom has a 2018 fiesta and its good fun to drive. Steering is very sharp.

Yes, as standard on all models.
Needs Auto hold as well like my Golf. A fabulous system while it still works though!
Nick Hickson I am sure sure it works well, but my old Passat had an electronic handbrake and it sometimes wouldn’t release, so i do prefer a manual one
The one in the Focus gave us no problems on the launch, but you’re right. Many customers do still want a manual handbrake lever.
Parkers The new fiesta still has a manual handbrake, hopefully if enough customers complain they might introduce a manual handbrake in the future

It's incredible how biased the presenter is. He doesn't like the exterior design, well, some of us wonder how can he possibly not LOVE IT. Interior-wise? He prefers the VW Golf... again. I personally don't know what he is talking about, the Golf interior styling bores me to death. Kudos to the Focus!

Normalmente os modelos começam a ser fabricados no Brasil quando deixam de ser produzidos na europa, não compensa aos fabricantes no Brasil ao mesmo tempo que nos outros paises, quando a produção acabar na europa ,eles usam todos os equipamentos necessarios para fabricar o veiculo na Fabrica do Brasil, neste caso não sei se isso acontecerá porque a Ford está a pensar em encerrar a fabrica no Brasil, não compensa ter uma fabrica a produzir só para o mercado Brasileiro, e como o governo Brasileiro insiste em colocar impostos extremamente altos nos veiculos importados, é provavel que possa nunca chegar ao Brasil. Aqui em Portugal o carro já está à venda desde setembro de 2018.

...and the fact that the majority of people that drive a car do it for a lot longer than a 'reviewer' reviews it before never driving it again.

simple. Entry level trims will be at least 1000 euro cheaper than actual model, due to rigid rear suspension and other cut cost reduction
High trims probably 1500 euro higher than actual models, due to new tehnology involved ( adaptive dampers, automatic gear box with torque converter, etc)

It is understandable that Ford has gone in a completely new design direction for the Focus - This is a more international design that also will work in the growing Asian markets and it is not a bad design but Mazda has not lived in vain. Overall it has lost the more aggressive styling in the former generations while the Fiesta has kept its lineage. The new Focus is mainstream looking and was it not for the strong DRG of the Front one would not be able to recognize this car as a Ford - So yea it is a marketing driven and platform-driven design well executed but with the trade of losing a lot of character. Nothing to point fingers at in the inside - well done, but overall this Focus has lost any want to have drivers appeal for me, so im just happy that this major DNA change has not happened to the Fiesta.
Exterior not bad but I still dislike the interior.
This is the best looking Ford Focus yet and better looking than the current VW Golf which although looks okay, is a bit plain and boring.
After all that he wouldn't give us his opinion on which one was better.
i have both, an mk7 from 2013 and a focus from 2015, both came new and can say the golf its a much bu a MUCH better car, the quality its far superior, the focus already spend the double in maintenance than the golf and its 2 years younger. Golf its the King of the segment, the mk8 will carry on the path
Sadly the Golf has never been the "king" of this segment. The Focus has ruled since it first arrived on the scene and continues to do so. Reviews of the new Mk8 Golf already show that it doesn't measure up 🤕

This is a German car, built in Germany by German's. Ford may be an American brand, but this is a Ford Europe car, nothing to do with the USA..
Answer to your question, yes, it’s better than a Golf.
You descrip a lot, but you doesn't tell us anything about the 182 hp engine you drive. So you get my thumb down.

Its the three cylinder dragon engine, when at low power it disables the middle cylinder to save fuel.The insurance on the car with the 150ps Ecoboost Dragon engine is little different to the Ecoboost 125ps
