  • The new Ford Focus would probably be a best-seller in the UK even if it was the worst thing since the Ford Edsel. Thankfully it's quite brilliant...assuming you pick the right one.

    Great review; one small point though, the Focus is a *European* institution, not just a “British” one. Built in Germany, designed by smart people from all over Europe, loved by drivers from Stockholm to Sicily, Luton to Ljubljana.

    I own a base model Ford Focus Trend 2017 model and I luv it.132 kw of power- handles great-has terrific all round vision for driver and has what I consider to be one of the best sat nav screens being 8 inch touch screen and user friendly. I could go on more about this car but you'll find out for yourself if you look into them closer -A real no brainer for the money especially the base model

    Also, the fact they’ve simplified the rear suspension on basic models (torsion beam!) when a Focus hallmark has always been the multlink setup (even forcing VW to scramble and make a multlink setup for the Golf V), is a cop out.

    • @BruceLeedar
      @BruceLeedar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The average driver probably can't tell the difference. It was a bit of a marketing gimmick sticking multi-link in C-segment commuter cars, and now manufacturers are moving back to mostly torsion beam (including Mercedes A-class), since they can be tuned to be quite adequate for street driving and save money on both the design and manufacture of the suspension to invest elsewhere (e.g. the interior of the new Mazda3).

    Why do people keep referring to the VW Golf as if it were some sort of revolutionary first ever hatchback? How about the Renault 4 & 16, the Simca 11, the Austin A40, and the original Citroen Traction Avant hatchback.

    I think it's a poor decision by Ford to put a small LCD 'screen' on their basic model as it would have looked out of date 20 years ago. I'm also not keen on them putting a basic suspension on the lower powered versions. - however it does look like a nice car and I'll probably get to drive one when rental companies get them.

    How reliable are Ford Focus cars, or is a Golf better?

  • @markusdahmann4107
    @markusdahmann4107 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    At 06:20 the problem of interior design is visible:
    The armrest in the door continues to the b-pillar. I am 6ft 2,5" and with the seat properly adjusted I touch this "extension thingy" which is annoying. Not whith poth hands on the wheel but for example when sitting at a red light waiting and having the hands off the wheel. And since you know it you are more likely to touch it unpleasantly. the armrest is upholstered and the extension isn't, so there is a noticeable height difference.
    Most annoying and a "no-go": At least the LHD cars have a pedal box that is offset from middle to right. Correctly fitted the brake pedal end the middle of the steering wheel are in line. Here it is the clutch pedal. Gas is far to the right which forces the driver either to sit "bended" to the right (causing back pain) or the ability of instantenously hitting the brake pedal in an emergency is "unhappily compromised".
    The Fiesta for comparison does not have those two issues.
    What were they thinking??

      @scottparker943 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Markus Dahmann I have a st line x and am 6”6 - haven’t yet noticed your first problem, seems really comfortable to me. Also think the pedals may be a lhd thing only. Really loving the car overall

      Jimmy B Don’t hesitate! My company car is a 1.0 125bhp ST line x manual and its a riot to drive. Goes like stink too for what it is! Our family car is a 330i BMW auto and I can tell you without hesitation that the Focus is more fun to drive! My kids always say We want to go in Daddy’s fast car! It has the perfect power for fun driving on public roads. I have also test driven the ST and its brilliant but unlike mine if you actually rev it out and drive it the same way your license will be taking a holiday to Swansea! For me thats the beauty of the 1.0 ecoboost. You can really use all its umpf and its a bonus that it makes a great noise. 👍

    Just a point regarding your list of engines at 7:42 you state that there are four PS outputs on the 1.0, with the highest at 140ps. That’s incorrect, the 1.0 goes up to 125ps and the 1.5 has 150 or 182ps.
    Great video though, one of my favs for this particular car review 👍🏻🤪

    Good review, definitely under subscribed viewers, I have driven the 1.5 ecoblue (diesel) Active x Vignale. Loved it so much I placed an order for a brand new one!! He’s absolutely spot you need to drive the spec in order to actor your driving experience. But I disagree when he mentioned ‘ the consensus on the diesel wasn’t great’. You have to drive it and for me whilst the eco boost is a great engine but if you want better mpg then it’s definitely 1.5 diesel, great engine and sufficient torque!

    "A bit pointless talking about trim levels..." ? Really?! That's what people come to watch reviews for! Truthfully the focus always looks so much better than the golf from the outside but the cabin, the golf always wins, including this time around too. It's a shame Ford didn't neaten it up a touch more, it still looks a bit cluttered and the infotainment doesn't look great. Also, this constant bad press about the ecoboost makes me steer clear of it. Pity cos my golf (mk 7) looks dull as dishwater from the outside. Like someone stepped on shoebox. Seriously, where is the perfect car in this range?
