I LOVE the way that you and Kevin interact on camera :) It's giving "I married my best friend" vibes in the BEST way and it just makes the videos even better than they already are
Laurie's not just saying it because it's her product, her cake smoother/scraper is legendary. I don't know what all went into it to make it so different from all the other ones I've tried but oh my God, it's like magic. I've always loved baking and cake-decorating but I never really managed to get the smoothing figured out, so my cakes never quite looked good enough to sell and I'd just make them for family. That was the only thing I was missing so now that I have this smoother, my cakes look professional and I was able to open the small at-home cottage bakery I've always wanted to 🥰 Can't recommend it enough. Between the quality of the smoother and the buttercream course, I'll pretty much buy anything baking/decorating-related that Laurie creates.
This comment means the absolute world to me! We spent months and went through 12 different versions of this tool perfecting the material, weight, size, finish, everything! All other cake smoothers were so imbalanced and hard to hold, they didn't have the right edge or material. We're so proud of how it turned out! And the cake course... that was a year in the making. We took everything I learned over 10 years and jam packed in into one course. We really do put so much love into everything we do, and to see such a loving comment like this makes it all worth it! *Links if anyone wants them!

I think from now on you should ALWAYS include your bloopers in the videos. It's way more interesting and I'll watch a 20 minute video. Whereas normally I want under 10. This was great and EXACTLY like really decorators trying something new!!!😂😂😂❤❤❤
I come from a large family where half of us like our cake as cake and the other half like it in a bowl of milk. Especially on day 2, 3, or... My mom was a cake with milk lover!! Not my favorite, but I do it occasionally with a little bit of milk when I'm missing my mom or feeling sentimental! Good for you for trying it!
Started this video and immediately paused because that cold open looked great. The fuschia hair with the forest green top in the new kitchen....you're killing it, Laurie!
The reason the bubble wrap didn't fit is because it's not a linear measurement comparison. It's a circumference comparison because the cake is a circle. The circumference equation is 2*pi*radius (or pi*diameter). Since the bubble wrap is going on the outside of the cake it will have a slightly larger radius in it's circle than the edge of the cake, therefore it will have a slightly larger circumference and would need to be a little bit longer when laid out flat. This is why you had to take those geometry classes in high school folks.
Also, the bubble wrap is 3-dimensional, and so if you put it flat-side toward the cake, it would probably fit, but the bubbles extend the flat part farther out, so it needs to be longer.
To put it another way, you have to allow for the depth of the bubble wrap, which is going to be at least a half an inch because the wrap itself is maybe a quarter inch and it impacts the measurement twice as it goes around the circle.
I love your videos. I am so glad you are posting again. Always look forward to not just the actual content but the interaction between you and hubby .... pure gold.

I do love all the chaos that happens in your vids, and then it all comes out fabulous. You two are couple goals, and I've been loving all the vids for years now.
This was a great video. I like that you don't give up. Thank you. We did the milk with cake when i was a child when the cake was getting a bit dry. Just enough milk poured on the cake to absorb into the cake. Anything more than that was like having milk with cake bits in it which personally i couldn't eat because of the texture.
Same here! I used to do it with the Costco cake and microwave it since I was trying to recreate the hot chocolate cake pudding thing from Old Country Buffet.

OMG! I haven't even watched the video yet, but when you talked about the cake in a bowl of milk. I was there, I mean THERE! I love to do that! It's one of my favorite ways to eat cake, especially if it's getting a little dry. If you like cake and ice cream after the ice cream has melted, you'll like it.
Laughed at the "make it make sense" re: bubble wrap measuring 😂 i make rings for a living and its basically the same thing (measuring something for circumferences) and you ALWAYS have to account for material thickness :) you'll get it next time!
I think the fault line cake hack is good for someone who is new to cake making. The other way, the way you usually does it, I think works for you because you are very experienced as someone who ices and makes cakes, but that could be a game changer for someone who is still working on their smoothing or icing techniques and wants to make a fault line cake but struggled with keeping the middle clean.
