  • Carrying out a quick service on a 2015 Mercedes W205 C220d
    The oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and cabin dust filter are replaced, along with the service reminder reset.
    Most of the service items were bought from a local Mercedes dealer, as with most modern diesels its worth getting the exact oil specified by the manufacturer and the oil was not too expensive. The air and oil filters were not too bad. Only the fuel filter was bought from a local motor factors. £30 for a Bosch item or £80 from Mercedes for something that is probably no better quality than a Bosch item.
    In general this car is not too hard to service, everything is easy to access and sensibly laid out.

      Yep a lot of modern cars now use plastic (it tends to be glass fibre reinforced plastic) for their sumps.

    Thanks for sharing. When I do mine I'll be using one of those vacuum vessels and drain the oil from the dipstick hole. The filter will catch any debris when the engine is running with the new oil. This is because I don't have a lift or jack. Lots of mechanics do it that way nowadays, and it's accepted by the manufacturer.

Can you please upload a video to show how to clean the AC Evaporator with foam cleaner without removing or making a drill hole for W205 ? Where to locate the Evaporator drain pipe in W205 ? How to clear it if it is clogged ?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not too sure, this c class went to an independent Mercedes specialist in the first few years my dad had it to keep up with the warranty.
      He could have changed them to make them easier to work on for subsequent services, click r clamps are a bit of a hassle for something that has to come off. However VW use jubilee clamps on their fuel filter housings so possibly Mercedes did also. I seem them used on various PSA cars typically on hoses that are not due to come off as frequently its possible to get a knack for removing and reinstalling them with a pair of side cutters, i can manage them now but there are also special pliers specifically for them.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it depends on the setup. If there is an electric pump in the tank then it will fill the filter housing by turning on/off the ignition as shown here. I know that on my berlingo 1.6 it did not have an in tank pump and to prime the filter you had to push a button on top of the filter housing to prime it. If the button did not work then a grenade style fuel pump had to be used to draw the fuel into the filter housing.

      Hi there, generally every service. Although take the old one out and inspect it, if its still fairly clean it might do 2 years. It is the condensation and bacteria if the AC is used that is more of a concern than bits of leaves which is why i prefer to change them at every service.

    Just one additional info:
    On some w205 C 220d (eg mine) you need to pusch 3 buttons to access the service menu;
    th-cam.com/video/xRPZlhQYMAU/w-d-xo.html
    - Turn key to position one
    - The menu must show as in video, change it if its not showing the same view.
    - Hold simultaneous the buttons "OK" + "Tele accept" + "Tele hangup" buttons.
    You should now have the service menu opened and proceed as shown in the video 😎

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In fairness it does work, and they would not be the first or only manufacturer to use it. Not sure why, could be cheaper to make, might allow for a more complex shape to be made. Although i would personally prefer to see aluminium especially from a recycling standpoint at least it could be reused, GFRP is quite difficult to recycle.

    Talk about cheap,,,A plastic sump with a plastic sump plug,,,So much for Mercedes being a premium brand,,,,I have a Dacia duster,,My sump is steel ,With a steel sump plug,Plus my undertray is also a heavy gauge steel,,I'll never understand why people pay crazy money for poorly and cheaply made junk....

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In fairness to drive they still feel like a premium product, there are a lot of nicely engineered small things that all add up to make it quite nice. My dad has had this now 7 years and bar the usual consumables, a NOx sensor and two front arms its been no worse than anything else.
      Not sure why they use that material, plastic is doing it a bit of a disservice as its some sort of GFRP composite, so far it seems to have held up, in the same way a lot of cars have "plastic" valve covers which can do the job it seems to work grand for this sump, the plugs easy removed and replaced. I suppose technically it wont rust either, and does not leak. I can only assume that it is ease of manufacture perhaps it can be injection moulded faster or into a more intricate shape. I would be interested to know the specific engineering rationale that led to the choice of material.

  • @justinhinchliffe2355
    @justinhinchliffe2355 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Too much plastic!

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As mentioned already its no better or worse than any other modern car. Crash protection, pedestrian safety, ease of manufacture, weight savings for fuel economy standards mean manufacturers have to use plastics. It depends on the exact composition of the plastic, what sort of composite it is. If engineered well enough it can do the job of an aluminium part quite well, unfortunately some manufacturers use poorly chosen plastics in critical areas such as coolant unions where they may crack.

  • @-DC-
    @-DC- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Plastic pistons and Plastic crankshaft available shortly what utterly ridiculous engineering.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Plastic components in the engine bay are nothing new or just used by Mercedes
      Generally its for pedestrian safety and crash ratings, if the likes of the inlet manifold and intake pipes were hard aluminium it would cause problems, plastic will break easier on impact. However its generally designed to be strong enough in service. Not sure why the sump needs to be plastic but it has not yet caused any issues. They will have engineered it no doubt, while we say plastic the exact material used is most likely some form of glass fibre reinforced composite which is intended to cope with the heat cycles and oil exposure.
