    I've had the Audio Technica's for almost 13 years now, (I have the original MTH M50 model, that's been discontinued) I've had to replace the ear-pads, the leather on the headstrap is all worn out and flaked off. They're still kicking though! They were the first higher-end headphone I ever purchased. They sounded amazing coming from basic headphones,...
    but the Sennheiser 599's are WAY better. Not even comparable really. The Sennheisers are like the gateway into audiophile headphones. Just pair them with a good AMP and DAC, and make sure you're listening to actual good lossless audio tracks.. you're going to notice things in music you never heard before. Once you've gone on to higher-end headphones, the limitations of the Audiotechnica's start to show.
    If you're looking for casual listening - while on transit or at the gym, just get some blue tooth Anker Earbuds. $30, and they sound great for mobile listening. I have the Anker's 'Soundbud Curves', bass is deep, and they have good soundstage for earbuds, with over 15 hour battery life. Lugging head-cans around for mobile listening just isn't worth it.

    Wow, that looks like my ex-fiance's couch. I like the Sennheiser HD599's they are a very nice set of headphones. Maybe I'll listen to the Audio Technica ATH M50x again at the store in comparison but at the time I purchased the Sennheiser HD599's because regardless of them being Open-back headphones I thought they sounded much better in terms of the overall clarity. Yet, the are Open-back headphones and they can be heard because of that as some extra background noise is being generated from the headphones bleeding sound because they are Open-back headphones. Maybe the Audio Technica ATH M50x had too much wear and tear at the store or were damaged or something and I imagine that could have happened being that they were just left in the open so that they could be heard before purchasing them. Anyways, if they sound similar in terms of their characteristics I would most certain think that a nice Closed-back headphone would be a nice option and because of the background noise pollution that is generated by Open-back headphones. I would say that this also made me think of the song "Rivermaya - 20 Million Diamonds" and also the movie Aladdin because of the whole diamond in the rough thing. And that also reminds me of the song "Lepi Dasa - Velika Masina" and so again I found your review to be very interesting. I also thought that the Pioneer HDJ-X5 Headphones sounded pretty good. I am having a hard time with a few things that some people had told me at times and that goes back to many time periods from 1984 to 1989 and also in 1995 thru 1997 and again in 2005 and 2011 and also at some other various times. Regardless, it makes me think of the songs "The Vamps - Wake Up" and "Ellie Goulding - Lights" plus "Quiet Riot - Winners Take All" and they are great songs. The couch thing I think I agree with what some other people had said in terms of their comment on your review and it also made me think of the movies Dirty Dancing and also The Cutting Edge and that also made me think of the movie Titanic and in because of a certain timeline or sequence of things. Those things again made me think of the song "The Hooters - And We Danced" and that also make that song very scary and yet it is a very good song, it's just that I find it to be very scary. I also think that the song "for KING + COUNTRY - Shoulders" is very scary for many of the same reasons and also because I was hit many hit and run accidents where the other driver fled the scene and they were not found and it may have been the same person in those events. That also made me think of many people named Jeff and Scott over the years. Yet regardless of all of those things I also having been hit by car whilst I was riding my bicycle and also waking up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, it is that I am still alive for some reason. It is something that is pretty interesting and for a lot of reasons and the song "Daughtry - 18 years (Lyrics)" is an awesome song. I wonder with a lot of recent events what are some events that might also take place in the future. I most certain hope they are good things. I do think that "Rey Stevens - Dudley Dorite (Of The Highway Patrol)" is also important because Dudley Dorite looks exact like my brother when Rey Stevens got pulled over, "The Hooters - And We Danced" 1985 reprise @3:27 plus a metal plate, important. Anyways, nice review, btw. Thank You!!.

    I have my Skullcandy Hesh 3 Bluetooth headphones which are very practical and actually quite good. However, I took my HD599’s today for a walk and even in open environments they are absolutely kick ass. I’m sitting on the Audirect Atom 2 for my iPhone and I’m using a simple DAC dongle but even for outside use the Sennheiser’s are great. They do lose a lot of bass vs the Skullcandy’s which are sort of purposed for that, but I have loved them wether I’m using them indoors through a large Behringer DAC/AMP, so I have found them to be great all-arounds.

    Music is something which is extremely subjective everyone for the most part likes a different style of music, a different headphone style, or values a certain part of music more than others and given all the variables what sounds amazing to one person might not be that good to someone else. The hardest part for me was getting use to music sounding different you kinda get accustomed to music sounding a certain way (especially with songs you know well) the headphone market around $60-$80 is pretty good for folks who just want better but still wants their music to sound more or less the same. For me personally I remember the first time I listened to good music, was in 2008 and I had this song I loved at the time my friend found the song online and had me listen to it thru his headphones and it was crazy. I had listened to this song easily 100 times and felt I knew everything about it and out of no where I started hearing instruments in the song I didn't even know where there.
    I absolutely loved it but I guess I will give some advice if you listen to a lot of vocal heavy music with light instruments or predominantly instruments open back headphones can be a solid choice, if you listen to bass heavy music however you pretty much want to look for closed back headphones. There is always some grey in between where something can sound really nice on one but in general if you enjoy bass heavy music (like rap, hard rock, etc) go for closed back. If you enjoy a lot of classic music especially piano, violin, or light vocals with a slight background go open back.

    Excellent review. I have had the ATH 50’s (Not the x) for years and they are very versatile. Mainly used when playing bass guitar. They are sometimes used for listening through my stereo and are fine and very enjoyable. However,, I am looking into open back designs for more airiness and imaging more like my speakers. The HD 599’s have crept up to the top of my list. I’m shooting for under $200. While I’m not sure I will like the color, Your review may have clinched the HD 599’s.

    Here M50x costs 70 euros less than HD599. That is around 50% of its base value. I think that price should play a bigger role in a comparison, because it is a lot bigger commitment in buying Sennheiser headphones for no differences in quality, but just preference.

      @borsohd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@392cuts its hard to choose because they are two very different headphones.
      Personally, i d choose the m50x, because i make beats on my computer and that think has just an amazing, detailed bass, i cannot really describe it, its just boofy as hell and i love it.
      On the other hand, if you put the hd599 on, the highs are very detailed, you can hear every single thing in the song and... its just amazing
      So if you re the guy who likes to listen to quality music at home then i recommend the hd599, but if you travel a lot, or if you want to listen to music outside of the house then m50x it is. If you re a music maker, then m50x would be a better choice i think
      But yet again they are both amazing headphones on their own way, both really worth their prices.

      Frankly, I can’t say which one to pick. If you like the color of 599, you can go with that if not 598. I got 599 for 79€ and hence I picked it as it is the latest one. But I got a feedback from metal571 that 599 and 598 after good burning, both sounds the same but 599 has better imaging (clarity and instrument identification) helps in gaming..

    nice review, i want to buy this Sennheiser. The looks is astonishing, and the reviews say this is very precise, warm and clear open back headphone. I wanted a open-back but very warm sounding, that i could listen to a bass solo of a prog band or something like that. I used a Sony Mdr-1R, that is a closed-back, very clear headphone, but the clear sound wasn't giving me a good imaging, and even was claustrophobic because the impression was ''i'll get some open sound'', but was never open, dynamic, vivid enough, and i wanted to kill myself. And even the bass in that was not warm, you listen to, but was more ''sweet'' than something that have body in the sound. So, my old headphone are shit because don't do anything right enough, same trying to do. I hope the Senn 599 will can be open, vivid and warm. It's a right description? Thx =D
