    Sennheiser confused a lot of people with the naming of this headphone. That's an accurate stock sound description - this is NOT like a 558; it's like the 518, which has always sounded warmer and bloomier than the the other two Sennheisers in the old lineup. The 579 and 599 are analogous to the old 558 and 598.

      metal help me with a purchase decision between 579, 598 , 599 , which is more resolving and has a better detail and seperation than my current pair of dt990 premium , 32 ohm , i want a midrange focused headphone as i am sick of the aggressive v shape of dt990 .

    I got these and immediately decided to EQ them: rolled off the lower mids, boosted the upper mids and it worked wonders - the clarity and vocal quality have gone up significantly. These are extremely capable if you put a tad of effort into tweaking these and balance the lower mid and higher mid/high areas. With the proper EQing, these honestly sounded on par with far more expensive options I'd heard + the soundstage is superior to the competition. For a $100 I wouldn't look elsewhere.

      And for every headphone I'd advise using a high pass filter set at 40-50Hz to filter/attenuate extreme loud subwoofer sounds and prevent clipping/compression.
      My exact eq for my head phones is the above plus a 2-3 dB attenuation of the mid-lows(just under the higher vocal range) to emphasize the mids and highs.
      Sennheiser HD202. Oldie but goldie. Actually extremely well suited for 70s and early 80s music where bass was not so prominent and high fidelity as it developed in the 1990s.
      Contemplating getting the 559 as replacement and modding it for BT and wireless charging + battery.

    HD 559 are very engaging in all music. The 50 ohm sensitivity rating makes them much easier to drive and therefore less finicky about what you power them with. If you like Sennheiser sounding HP's you will adore the HD 559. IMO.

    Nice review! I’m looking for headphones that are not fatiguing. Got an ongoing ear infection where I can only listen to smooth headphones with no spark whatsoever. I’ve been stuck with anc headphones I.e. momentum 3 for a while now because of this as they have a laid back sound especially when I wear a hat underneath in the winter.
    Really struggling to find audiophile headphones that are not fatiguing. I have an lcd x, hd 660s and 599. Now I ordered the 559 and 6xx to see if I can ease back into this hobby. I guess when all said and done, my ear problems have essentially made me expand my collection so I’ll be very happy in a years time… that is unless I get hearing loss. First thing I did was actually get a r2r dac (denafrips ares 2) and a hifiberry dac+dsp earlier in the same chain to eq the hell out of my 660s, but even then the 660s had this grain and I think the driver is just too close to my ear unlike my momentum 3 where the driver is much further away from my ear.

I think the AD500x and SHP9500 are better recommendations for sub $100. Also the cable ends in a 6.4mm aux plug which isn't suitable for most people I think. If I pair them with couple of my devices, is there a button ON HEADPHONES, so I can switch between paired devices. By switching I mean to disconnect from the current device and connect to the next one. I'm pretty much sure this is possible cause my car can do it. But my current Sony are stupid and I have to press the pairing button for 10 secs so it can pair again (to an already paired device) and then go to my device BT settings to start pairing. Too much hassle just to switch devices. Sony's got NFC, so with phones it works fine. But with other devices it's a problem.

      Hello, I have both hd518 and hd559. The sound is very similar, hd559 has definitely more bass and better treble. Sound is warmer than hd518. So I prefer hd559.

    Are they better than Samson SR850? My SR850 is breaking apart after 3 years of use, all the plastic thingies have broken around screwholes, so I'm looking for a comfortable open-back replacement.
    I'd like headphones that I can use when working from home all day long and also enjoy movies and music after work. So, maybe not necessarily open-back but something that doesn't isolate me and doesn't make my ears feel hot and sweaty.
    It's sad to see how few decent open-back headphones there are under 100$. Ten years ago I had open-back Beyerdynamics for about 50$ but now there are no such models.

      The Sennheisers have pretty large earcups, on top of not having much clamping force. And the fact that they're actually shaped like an ear makes them more comfortable. So if that's what you want, the Sennheisers are for you.

    The bass is too much for me too and that makes my $5 earbud from Ty-hi z sounds better. But after using Equalizer APO with the Peace UI, I started to love the way they sound. I reduced the bass and increased the mids and treble by about 3-4 db and now I can hear the details of my music without the fatiguing bass. If only it was not bassy to begin with, this would be a recommendation for me but they do respond to EQ quite well even on my phone.

    • @Pwnisification
      @Pwnisification 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I EQ-ed them exactly like you said, now they no longer sound bassy and I can hear the clarity, but here's the thing: they're really fatiguing for my ears. I am somewhat treble sensitive and I expected these headphones to be relaxing sounding, but they're not. My creative aurvana live's sound much less fatiguing than these, even If creative has less detail.
