God of War hits a great sweet spot between action, story and puzzles, which is where your channel shines.
I didn’t realize it was so puzzling at times. I got excited as I realized that! -K
kratos' story is one of pain, anger, vengeance, stuffer, sorrow, and redemption. if there was ever a character in gaming who embodied "greek tragedy", then it is the ghost of sparta.
24:30 The journal is written as if it was Atreus writing it and it is a book that you can buy in real life. Title of the book is God of War: Lore and Legends.
Okay that is awesome and I will probably want it by the end of this play through lol -K
Obviously going on the hunt was the tutorial, but I also feel there was a story purpose in that Kratos was using it as a bit of a diversion so Atreus didn’t have to witness his mother turn to ashes.
They were initially watching and Atreus grabbed the hot knife. Kratos may have thought perhaps watching the entire pyre go up would be too much.
Nothing about my thoughts is in any way canon. I just ascribe these thoughts to the decision to have Atreus hunt to add more to their relationship.
This game was my first experience with this series & came out a few months after my father passed. The parent child dynamic is what kept me interested and in a way helped me through a difficult time.
It definitely served as relationship exposition without just outright telling the player what the relationship was like. It let us feel the bond that they start this journey with through a simpler event than something huge and life threatening at first. Until that troll attacks.
Video games are incredible in that way. I have a couple that helped me through tough times in high school when I just felt completely alone. It’s truly such a captivating medium that truly allows the player to connect to the protagonist onscreen. -K

If you two are interested in knowing more about kratos's past before this, i suggest watching a synopsis video of the older games, also that locked chest you came across at the beginning was easy to open, just hit the little statues with symbols on them, highly recommend getting those if you come across them since the items in them upgrade your health and rage. Also i advise to explore as much as you can before moving on to the next main objective.
I hate those synopsis videos id recommend watching all the cutscenes in chonological order.
@@wkkqewqaver7766 I hate both, I'd have said go in 100% blind because this game is perfect and almost specifically made for people who DON'T know Kratos' past, and learning the backstory without having fully experienced it by playing all the games is the worst of both worlds

They watched it already and personally I think watching and playing the previous games really makes this game hit harder.

Three reactions to getting the Blades of Chaos
-The tenured veterans who played all (or most of) the games before, and salivating and going "hello, old friend"/Freaking the hell out and screaming about how awesome it is
-The ones who are completely blind who look at them with wonder "wow, those are insane! But why does Kratos look so sad about them?" and their eyes lighting up when they first use them
-The ones who watched a recap video and are just like "oh, those are his old weapons, that's pretty neat"
Playing and watching just aren't the same thing. You know, but you didn't actually experience it yourself so the emotional investment isn't there. It's like watching Rocky Balboa after just reading the wikipedia pages on all the Rocky films beforehand
@@ryanschramm8147I agree. I love the gameplay of the greek games but what kept me coming back was the story. I've always loved Greek mythology and the GOW games are set up like a Greek tragedy. I knew Kratos' story would not have a happy ending but I was enthralled and wanted to keep playing to see.

What I like about watching people play god of war 4 first is that it mythologizes Kratos past even more . Like once you see his past it is actually as it is portrayed and talked about in this game but if you never played the games you just wondering wtf he did. And Kratos doesn’t defend himself
Fair warning!!!! Kratos past is extremely violent and depressing but is absolutely worth the time and research (or just watching videos on it) just be warned that you’re getting into a very dark past
Jeremy Davis is the actor that is playing "The Stranger" that came to the house and fought Kratos.
Honestly, when I saw his face and heard him I was a little like “nooooo…”

God of War is one of my favorite game series of all time, and in my opinion, the best story writing in any game series ever. I'm so glad you're starting this journey, and wholeheartedly recommend you watch videos on the earlier installments. Have fun!
Worth watching a video on kratos past, also a cool thing about this game is that it's one Continuous camera shot the only time it cuts or fades to black is when you die.

I really like the fact, that your people don’t know anything about the lore and play this game. I think it gives you more curiosity about Kratos’ backstory. I would recommend watch a video about his hole backstory: if you want after finishing this game or now!
This has been the #1 request so far so we are definitely going to be learning more asap since it seems super interesting! Also I was obsessed with specifically Greek mythology so I’m pumped to learn more. -K

GOW series always have been my favourite series in game history. Man playing this game made me so emotional because I can relate to it so deeply with my father .
I know others has said it but you should really watch the history of Kratos. You'll understand him so much more and see what a difficult life he's had.

Always love seeing new people play my favorite franchise of all time. I wish Sony would remake the first two and the prequels. But anyway everytime I watch a video like this and hear people ask questions, I'm like do you really want me to answer? Lol People are sensitive to spoilers so I'm like should I answer or not hahaha.

its fitting that you mentioned Xerneas because it and the XYZ Trio designs are based off of Norse mythology, look up the World tree old illustrations and you will see a bird at the top the Deer in the middle and a serpent dragon at the bottom. its pretty cool. Also love the playthrough you did so far looking forward to seeing the rest

The way I see it…
It’s nice and good enough on the story experience to play this fully and then look at the entire Synopsis of the previous games before you go for the next one: Ragnarok.
Like I said, this one has loose references so doing this one entirely first is a good starting point, but Ragnarok has an insane amount of references where you need to know the backstory to fully experience it

@@cait_and_kati also since I know you’ve already seen the Witch, there is a big reference about Kratos, when traveling on boats on this game, Atreus and Kratos sometimes have conversations that you don’t hear when going on foot; just be sure to listen to the Horse and the Stag story👍🏾

It is always a special treat to find someone playing this game for the first time. This game is my GOAT, and I hope you've been enjoying/will enjoy it just as much. I'm sure others have said this, but not knowing the lore of the Greek games won't hurt your appreciation of the Norse ones. A few references might get missed, but they won't take away from anything.

Weird info for you. Modern Kratos is voiced by Christopher Judge. He played Teal'c in Stargate SG-1 for 11 years and then had a rare appearance on Stargate Atlantis. Being a fan, I can't play that God of War without hearing Teal'c .

I’ve played both this and Ragnarok and watched playthroughs many times before but something about watching it again made me emotional this time. It’s already sad but knowing more from the other game makes it so much better
I haven't gotten far enough to know if you ever got it figured out, but there are controller settings where you can swap x and circle, and customize just about everything else too. I opted for more traditional action game controls, with light and heavy attacks tied to square and triangle respectively, and swapped x and circle.
I know a big part of the pulling to the controls is so that you can aim your ax and throw it on the move, so you're not having to use your thumb for multiple inputs, but for some reason so this Dark souls style attack controls just don't work with my brain
They definitely did not come easily to me, but I’m starting to understand the defaults. The other style won’t help me any since controller is just generally not my strong suit, but thanks! -K

You are going to love this game. But Kratos' back story is pretty important to know for this game, for the full experience. A video of the God of war history would be nice to watch.

And Baldur means your kind as in the Greek gods/pantheon and smarter as in Greeks had sports and science they really studied a lot

Also the symbol surrounding the "OF" in God of War and his handle for the axe is the Greek sign for Omega. And on the Omega sign is Norse writing. See what they did?

The story of Kratos is long and tragic. In the games he’s named as the God of War, but in truth, he might be more appropriately known as a god of Vengeance or Hatred.
I love this game I can't wait for the next part❤
Being astonished he can pick up a tree or tow it behind a boat, but me a fan of the games knowing Kratos can lift/move hundreds of thousands, if not millions of tons
I'll admit it; I was a little wary about having Kratos in an entirely different environment. Without giving TOO much away about the earlier games- Kratos was quite a violent presence in Greece, and Norse mythology is (usually) considered even more brutal. I figured it would be way too over-the-top. Now this and Ragnarok are 2 of my favorite additions to the series; of course, it helps that Kratos has . . . "changed" a bit since his time in Greece (again, no spoilers). :)
The good thing here is when you are completely knows nothing about god of war series or kratos story and you play this god of war for the first time,, i mean yeah that’s a nice feeling of experience playing this game and before or after you finish this game you are going to search the story of kratos from the start,,, sorry for my english any way i think you understand me

In God of War Ragnarök, it's likely that Kratos is around 1,055 years old. He's something of an old man, but as a demigod, he is still more than young enough to hold his own and then some in battle. Unfortunately, this is based on maths and educated guesses. Kratos's age is never told in the games. Gotta say old man moves around pretty damn well 😂 by the way I subscribe ❤

Hopefully you watch a bit about kratos to get a better understanding the character, this game although makes an effort to intrigue you about his past, you might not understand him as much as someone who already experienced the Og games
Also do try to no speak a lot during cutscenes, this is a HEAVELY lore based story and you can easily get lost if not paying attention

A little sad you didn't watch the lore before or played the 3 previous games cause it's LITTERALY NECESSARY to understand Kratos growth, anyway, i'm only at 24mins, but, the chest with puzzle, there was 3 glowing stones with the same runes as the chest and you didn't try to throw the axe? Kinda frustrating for me, hope you find out how to open them later
