I just ordered a DVD drive online today. My backup notebook has no optical drive so i will probably use the one i ordered with the notebook. I hope it will work well and for the years ahead. My current PC has an internal optical drive but i have not look at the cable interface yet. Once my current PC is not working anymore i may remove the internal optical drive unit and if it is SATA interface i can use my existing SATA - USB cable and connect it like an external drive. It will then be my backup since i foresee optical drives may one day be out of production or obsolete. So we should treasure those that we have now especially if we still need them to read our existing DVD or CD media.
Hi! I received my today. Where you able to register yours online with HP? I tried just about any number on the box, manual and drive itself, but HP doesn't except any of those "serial" numbers.

It can't write re writable cds RW. Or does it work for just regular cds.
